For as long as I can remember I had hooded...

For as long as I can remember I had hooded eyelids, even looking back at photographs of me in my 30s. I never liked the look of them. I looked older than I was and everyone continually kept telling me how tired I looked. I wanted this solved. Well after several years of contemplating having the upper eyelid surgery, I took the plunge this year and had the procedure done. After researching online for months and using this social media website Real-Self, also asking for referrals and recommendations and going through every page on several websites, I finally booked into seeing two surgeons. They both were professional and had an excellent bedside manner. One doctor particularly stood out though. And that was Dr Bryan Mendelson. From the initial phone call, I felt at ease speaking to real professionals about their craft. I talked to a lovely lady who was very well versed in the whole procedure, and she was not a pushy salesperson. Then from the moment I walked into the clinic I felt calm. I was in the waiting room for only a very short time and then I was shown into Brian's office. He came in and introduced himself. There was a particular way and air about him. Confident, calm and professional. I showed him several photographs of me from early years and then he went through how his particular procedure is very different to others and how it will freshen up my look. In the end, I went with him, and I will tell you why! The main reason was not only the care and education in the very first consultation but he is the only one that uses the Tarsal fixation Blepharoplasty technique. If you have not heard of this technique, instead of me trying to explain it, here is a link to his website that explains this particular method thoroughly. https://bmendelson.com.au/eyelids/

Now I am the type of guy that spends lots of time doing my research. Wanting to understand how the procedure works and also what the long-term benefits are going to be is very important to me. Dr Mendelson’s Tarsal fixation Blepharoplasty was the one thing that hit me as being unique. My understanding is that the other surgeons that I researched and consulted, did more of a “nip and tuck” or a "cut and shut". Rather well done though may I add. My biggest concern though was this way of doing the upper eyelids could be very hit and miss. They do this by removing excess skin on the eyelid crease and then sew it together, so the skin is tight. If too much skin is removed and the lids pulled to tight, firstly the eyelids won't close properly. Secondly, it will look blatantly obvious that you have had cosmetic surgery. There is no second chance and so there is no question in my mind after doing all the research and then meeting with the two cosmetic surgeons, I made the right decision.

Now when it comes to cosmetic surgery, and we are talking about a procedure that is going to change the way you look, either for the better or the worst, you have to make the right decision. And from the very first consultation where I met with Dr Mendelson, I felt very comfortable and reassured. He took the time to look at my specific condition and bone structure and educated me on how his particular procedure would make the cosmetic surgery freshen up my eyes without it looking like I had any surgery done at all. He was also very upfront about the day's and weeks after surgery and how I would be feeling and looking.

To summarise the whole experience, leading up to the procedure I must admit, I was very nervous. Just the thought of being put under the knife and how long the healing process was going to take. Also the amount of discomfort and pain I was going to have to put up with. After the surgery, and for the very first 10 days I was uncomfortable sleeping, but had no pain at all. In fact it was a lot better than I expected. Bryan's right-hand nurse Joanne, helped me through this unknowing journey. On the day of surgery and every day after that, she just continually demonstrated a caring, nurturing attention to me,and my eyes. From the first consultation right through to the four-month appointment, there was an element of care and interest in my well-being, inside and out. So coming out the other side I would have to say it has been one of the best things I have ever done for myself and particularly my self-esteem. My eyes look fresher, younger but don't look "worked". In fact recently I caught up with friends interstate and they had no idea I had the procedure done. But, they made comment, "have you lost weight, there is something about you, you look really good." This is testament that outstanding cosmetic surgery is undetectable.

Being in business myself for over 25 years you'll find it hard pressed to find another band of people that makes you feel so warm and welcome like Bryan’s team. From the receptionist through to the day nurse they all just have a calming and relaxing way about themselves that makes you feel good. Dr.Bryan Mendelson gets top stars from me in all the areas when it comes to facial plastic surgery.

Dr. Mendelson was a reassured calm and professional surgeon. It was obvious from the very first consultation that he was very well practised in eyelid surgery. At all times I felt reassured that he was going to come up with the best result. I consider him to be a true professional with an excellent bedside manner.
