How it works
  • Our highly-trained Review Moderation team evaluates all reviews before they're published to ensure they're written by people like you and not a member of a doctor's office.
  • This multi-step process takes up to 24 hours from review submission to publication.
  • Doctors can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden.
  • Reviews are only removed at the reviewer's request or if they violate our Terms of Service.

Am 51, and due to tmj, over the years, my lower jaw moved forward so my front teeth hit before my molars.
The fronts wore down 4mm+ and became so sensitive I had to do something.
I have dental insurance but to my dismay, they would cover nothing.
My local dentist referred me to a prosthodontist and the quote was $43,230. There had to be a better option.
I researched for weeks and found Dr. Torres.
My main concern going to MX was if something went wrong, could I legally pursue the Dr. Obviously, if the Dr. was a MX citizen, that would be unlikely.
I was happily surprised that Dr. Torres lives in the US, obtained his specialty training at Stanford, and has an office just across the border.
I emailed him and set up consultation. I flew to San Diego, drove to the border and walked across to MX. It's a 5 min taxi ride to his office ($5). He took a panoramic xray ($40), performed an exam and handed me a quote of $11,000.
I went home to think about it and scheduled the major work to be done.
20 crowns. Luckily I made the decision before root canals were necessary.
Flew down again the day of my appt (I was his only patient for the day).
Walked out 5 hours later with 20 temporaries.
I've had 3 crowns over the years and struggled immensely thru the drilling.
However, Dr. Torres gave me a small pill before we started which relaxed me throughout (I was still in complete control).
He showed me about 25 different teeth styles to choose from and after agreeing on the type and shade of whiteness, I went back home.
2 weeks later I flew down again and in 3 hours he placed all the permanent crowns.
Since I was still numb, I went back to my hotel in SD and saw him again the next day for minor adjustments (to ensure all the upper and lower crowns met perfectly).
It's been 10 days since then and wow, I'm absolutely happy.
A couple of teeth are still sensitive because he had to grind close to the never, bit that's expected and should settle in another week or two.
I had sooo much anxiety about doing 20 crowns in one sitting due to past experience, but Dr. Torres did everything and more to ensure I was comfortable and had no pain (other than the initial poke of novacane).
He takes all credit cards and whatever you pay by money order or cashiers check, he takes 10% off (i.e.-you bring $1000 money order, he takes $100 off the overall price).
I'll add more about crossing to MX later.
