WORTH IT$5,500
About 9 months ago I was sleeved in Tijuana, MX by Dr. Ramos Kelly, MD. I was extremely nervous traveling to Mexico for a surgical procedure but after having one done in the states with no success I just could not afford to do it again for $16k. (My insurance did not cover any) After having many phone conversations with Dr. Kelly and skype interviews I decided to go with him. He made me feel very comfortable and I felt he was always genuine. I sent him several x-rays and ultrasounds, and results of other test prior to me flying out there so he would be sure that he could perform the surgery. Since I had been sleeved previously he wanted to see pictures and images to make sure he could do the revision. Dr. Kelly was able to re-sleeve me for only 1/3 of what I paid for the failed one.
Traveling to MX
We flew from Texas to San Diego where Dr. Kelly's wife picked us up. She was very sweet and informative. We drove over to Tijuana and met Dr. Kelly at the hospital. The hospital was not your average prestige hospital. You have to remember you are not in the states anymore. It was clean and the staff was wonderful it was just outdated. There was a language barrier but Dr. Kelly had his assistant with us nearly the whole time who spoke fluent english.
I was sleeved later that night around 4pm, just two hours after surgery I was up walking around. I spent one night in the hospital then I spent 3 nights in a 4 star hotel that Dr. Kelly took us too. The hotel was beautiful, they had special foods for us (chicken broth, Popsicles, juices etc.) Dr. Kelly and his came to the hotel every day to visit with us and check on us, his son even brought me flowers)
After 4 days I flew home with no complications, I was very comfortable and hardly sore at all. My incisions healed nicely and I am very happy with my results.
My starting weight the day of surgery was 309, Today 9 months out I am 234. I am 5'7 so I also carry my weight well. I have never been a "fast loser" but I am happy with losing 75lbs in 9 months! I have 50 to go until I reach my goal. If you have any questions please ask me!

I'm very happy for you and you look amazing! I'm in the process of deciding whether to have the surgery or not. I'm almost done with all the medical requirements and will meet with the surgeon in a month. Thanks to you and everyone on the site for telling their story - the good, the bad and the ugly. :)

What caused the first surgery to be unsuccessful?

My first doctor did not remove the amount of stomach he was supposed to. (70%-80%) Only 30% was removed. My stomach was left so big that my second surgeon was able to Resleeve me without revision.

What do you typically eat and how many times a day...do you have a hard time consuming 64 oz of water? Are you able to eat the required amount of protein and how long does it take you to finish a meal...?Do you have to chew like 35 times?Im really nervous about being able to do all this on a daily basis...

Hi! I eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks in between that. In the beginning I had a hard time consuming a lot of water but now, 9 months out, I don't have a hard time at all. I try to drink a bottle of water an hour while I am at work. Then while working out everyday I usually consume 3 bottle of water while at the gym. (2hrs) Just remember small sips very often. Large gulps make hurt your stomach especially early out. My doctor recommends me to take in 100g of Protein a day. I typically take in about 85, but the further out you get the easier it is to get 100g in. The best way to get in protein is through your protein shakes. I drink Premier Protein. They are 30g of protein and only 160calories. The chocolate is my favorite. It takes me about 30 - 45 minutes to finish a meal depending on what I am eating. Take 2-3 minute breaks while eating to give your stomach time to process your bite. DO NOT DRINK WHILE EATING. Drinking a liquid while eating food will hurt, (if you haven't experienced this already) the liquid gets to the stomach faster and fills it up so once the food reaches the stomach it is already too full and you will feel tightness in your chest. Liquid will also cause food you have already eaten to expand, causing pain in the stomach...I do not chew 35 times, I honestly don't know how many times I chew, just make sure your food is chewed and your not accidentally swallowing big chunks of food. Don't worry about all these little things, you will learn as you go. You will find foods that most sleeve patients can't touch, but they are okay for your and visa versa. My mother and I both had the surgery together and there are some foods that she can eat all day and never feel a thing, that I try to eat and throw up. Every stomach is different and it is all trial and error! I hope this helps you! If you would like to know anything else feel free to ask or private message me! Good luck on your journey!

Thank you so much! My tummy looks flat but if I stand to the side and bend over a bit the excess skin will fall haha! But I work out a lot. I attend a crossfit gym 6 times a week. Three days a week I go to a body pump class, it is strictly muscle toning and has lots of core work. It is called the "Les Mills Body Pump" you could probably youtube/google it. Then 5 times a week I do HIIT training. (High Intensity Interval Training) It is very close to crossfit but a little less intense. HIIT is designed to bring the heart rate up and down quickly creating a higher fat loss. You can also research HIIT training as well. I do a total of 9 workouts a week, but trust me I didn't start that way. I've been training for about a year now. Start slow and work your way up! I recommend group fitness. It is very hard to stay motivated working out alone! I post a lot of my workouts and meals on my fitness instagram. You're more than welcome to follow me if you do instagram: jen.fit2015 Let me know if you want to know more. I can talk for days ;)
