Hi Everyone! I have been a member of several...

Hi Everyone! I have been a member of several Weight Loss Surgery groups and read posts and posts and posts…figure I might as well put mine out there as today I am one week post-op from having the VSG done in Tijuana! My PCP had mentioned WLS multiple times and I would always shut him down because I didn’t think it was for me and it was an exclusion on my insurance. I finally caved after talking to some people I know and I am so glad I did. When I found the out of pocket cost here in Ohio I thought I was out of luck, but I am stubborn as heck so I started looking into alternatives. Thankfully, I was in some groups that really gave me great advice and I found out about Trinity Medical in Tijuana. When I told my mom about the possibility, I thought she might have a stroke but she told me I would get a sign if it were meant to be. I posted a question in one of my groups, and was messaged by a patient coordinator for Trinity who not only was a sweetheart and totally candid with me, but also told me about a special going on after the first of the year (2016) for $2,500 for the sleeve. Considering I had already heard several good reports about Trinity and checked out their website (trinitymedical.org), I considered that my sign and got the ball rolling. I left for Tijuana with my best friend at my side last Tuesday. The surgery was done first thing Wednesday morning and within a couple hours I was walking laps in the hallway. Thursday I was out strolling through the shops in Tijuana and walked over a mile. Friday I headed back to Ohio from the sunny (and warm) west coast to be welcomed back by freezing rain. I took the last pain pill I have needed when I boarded the flight home as a precaution and I have felt great since I got home. Part of me wonders if this is real and if I am going to jinx myself. As of this morning, I have lost 28.5 pounds since I started the preop diet on February 21st. For someone that has always been overweight and battled thyroid issues (like not having one!), I am overwhelmed with emotions but so grateful I followed my gut decision and was that girl everyone thought was crazy for going out of the U.S. for surgery. I honestly got the best care I could have asked for and developed friendships with people that truly understand the journey I am on. Sorry for being wordy but I cannot express how great this opportunity was and, for the first time, how optimistic I feel about a healthy future for myself. If anyone has any questions about my experience, I am an open book…I know how much reading other people’s experiences and their responses to questions solidified my decision and gave me hope that this was the right path for me. If anyone is interested in Trinity, you can call them or I can give you contact info for my patient coordinator as she is fantastic. I just wanted to let anyone know that is reading this and is where I was a few months ago, that this IS possible...no insurance coverage ISN’T a dead end, and there is a way to get the tool you need to help you on your journey!
