Cancelled

I decided to cancel my surgery. As the date approached I felt as though I had made a rash decision to remove most of my stomach. I will be taking more time to work on my diet. The clinic is very nice and they were supportive of my decision to give dieting another go before I jump to surgery. I would still recommend this facility based on the kindness and professionalism they showed me. If I need surgery in the future they are still my #1 choice.

Pre-op diet and stats

2 week Pre-op diet: 64 oz of water. 3-5 shakes consisting of fruit (or) skim milk as a base, Splenda, sugar free flavoring syrup, flaxseed oil. Pre-op weight: 204 lbs. Height: 4'11". Age: 29. BMI:41.2

I went to my doctor for a referral to a bariatric...

I went to my doctor for a referral to a bariatric surgeon recently after having my 3rd child. After waiting 2 weeks I was denied by my doctor's group (not insurance) and instead was referred to nutritional classes that I would need to do for 6 months and then maybe after that I could submit to insurance. I didn't want to wait any longer because I originally inquired about WLS in 2009 and was denied information and instead asked to do a food diary and see a gastroenterologist which ultimately yielded no results.

I decided to go to Tijuana, Mexico because I live within 4 hours of the boarder and the surgical center I chose had plenty of reviews online which appeared to be happy and healthy. The clinic I chose was "A Slimmer Me" and I did so for a few reasons: Most important- the way they respond to inquiries was by far the most professional as compared to a few other doctors I reached out to which included Dr. Maytorena, Dr. Ortiz, and Dr. Alvarez. I understand Dr. Maytorena is responsible for the results for most of JL Prado's past Sleeve Gastrectomy patients so I originally wanted him however he is unresponsive to emails. Given this I decided that the surgical center was just as important, I have seen multiple reviews on YouTube of people that used JL Prado and said it was very clean and friendly establishment. I like that they only do 3-4 surgeries a day as well and are a family run surgical center.

The least important deciding factors - the price is $2,799 currently and I assume it is because of the new doctor, Dr. Montano, has to build his client list and because JL Prado is family owned with less overhead. Overall, I feel comfortable with the pricing because I understand the circumstances that make the price lower than other facilities. Additionally, medicine is an additional $150 which I will opt for because of anti-biotic being very important if an infection did happen. It is my understanding that they do not treat infections at their surgical facility as well which will decrease the likelihood of it happening to someone else.

My surgery is currently set for May 8th, 2017. I will arrive at SAN airport to be picked up and transported through border patrol.
