I decided to take the leap and have my gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. Sergio Quinones in Tijuana, Mexico on Oct. 5th 2012. Now that I am 2 1/2 years post-op I look back and realize that my sleeve was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. My starting weight was 235 lbs, today I weigh 145 lbs. Before surgery it was difficult for me to keep up with my then, 2 year old son. Now I am able to not just keep up with him, but really engage and enjoy time with my son. I had a wonderful experience and would do it again in a heart beat.

I am thinking about the surgery in Mexico but scared. How was it over there?

I can understand your fear, at the time that I was scheduling my surgery I had never been out of the country. I did a year of research before deciding on my surgeon, and still the day before I flew out for my surgery had that last minute breakdown of being scared. The scared aspect is totally normal, but to be honest Mexico really surprised me. Like any country it has its good and not so good parts, but when I had surgery everything was taken care of from the time I stepped off the plane until the time it was time to leave to fly home. The way it works, is the surgical company picks you up at the airport. From the airport you are taken straight to the hospital. You spend two days at the hospital and then when you have passed all of the post operative checks and tests you get released to the hotel that works in conjunction with the surgical company. Again you are driven by a staff driver to the hotel, checked in etc. Everyone at the hotel that I had to deal with spoke English. You spend one night in the hotel, and then the next morning you will be picked up by the staff drivers and taken back to the airport. At no point in time did I ever feel unsafe during my experience. In fact, another patient that had had the surgery and I got out an walked down the the Starbucks the night we stayed at the hotel. I had a really great experience from start to finish. Personally, I really enjoy Mexico, and opted to go back the following year for dental work, and before too long will be going back down for plastic surgery. My fiance and I now go down there every so often for extended vacations. At the time of my surgery I really didn't get out to see the town that much, being fresh out of surgery and all, but since then on various trips we have gotten to explore TJ and surrounding areas, and have never had any trouble. I hope this helps some, but if you have any specific questions feel free to ask. Best of luck on your decision!

I'm considering the sleeve. Have you kept the weight off? Were you in alot of pain after surgery? Was the facility clean?

You look amazing and I'm glad your journey has worked out well for you. Did you have any loose skin during/after your weight loss.
