Hello, My name is Susie I have been a member of real self for about 8 months now. I originally came to this site to research breast augmentation which I already had done in April. Always being a bigger girl and being flat chested I thought that getting a BA would give me that boost of confidence I wanted and although I love my results I still have a hard time finding clothing that I feel comfortable in besides my scrubs I wear for work, big T-shirts and sweat pants. So I think it is time to do something permanent about my weight issue. I am 5'5" and weigh 205, with a BMI of 33.8. I do understand that I am not extremely obese but I am about 75lbs from where I would love to be. As a kid I was always chubby then as a teen when I was extremely active I weighed 117-120 lbs. then I became pregnant as a teenager and shot up to over 190lbs. I eventually got back down to 140 and was happy there for several years. I got married at 22 and had 2 more children within 2 1/2 years and have been struggling with my weight ever since, for the last 12 years. It use to be so easy for me to drop 20 to 30lbs but I always gain it back. I have taken on a new job in the last year that I love but I don't move around a lot during the day. I have a 60 mile commute so that does not leave much time to get in much exercise I feel tired all the time, I have aches in places that never ached before and am starting to have blood sugar issues. I try to eat healthy and go for 4 mile walks when time allows. I am sure that I could loose a portion if not all the weight I want if I was able to dedicate a few hours a day to exercise but at this point I just can't seem to make that work for very long and I just gain the weight back. I live in Arizona so traveling to Tijuana is very doable, although my husband is not sure about going to Mexico for any kind of surgery. I know there are several Bariatric surgical facilities there I just want to get some input on them. So far I am considering... A Lighter Me, and the Obesity Control Center. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I have not contacted any one yet but really hope to do surgery at the beginning of next year.

Hi Susie - although I won't be having my sleeve for two weeks, I did a lot of research and reading prior to choosing the Obesity Control Center. I'm a nurse and a bit of a germaphobe, and seeing so many positive reviews from other nurses (including surgical nurses) and physicians that had surgery there helped me to make that decision. Dr. Ortiz has been doing surgery like this for awhile and has a very good reputation. I'm sure there are other very good surgeons in Mexico, and some are less expensive. I think people need to look at what option appears best for them and their situation. I do have one note of caution. You mentioned difficulty sustaining healthy eating and diet, but keep in mind how important it will be to really commit to his both before and after surgery. Otherwise, you'll be spending a lot of money, forever altering your body, and will gain the weight back. There are several ladies on realself that have had recent experiences with OCC you can read about, and I'll continue to post on mine after surgery. People are very open to questions, so ask everything you can think of. There's also a very supportive VSG group on MyFitnessPal that's been helpful with general information. Best of luck to you!
Thank you for the advice. I had previously read your review. I understand the surgery is only part of the life changing process. I know 4 people who have had bariactric surgery, bypass, lap band (I would never even consider) and the sleeve so I have learned a lot from them. Thanks again, I think OCC is my top choice so far because of there reviews.
Hi! I have been on this site for about as long as you have now researching my rear end off. After talking to several members on here and seeing results and also talking to the coordinator and the Dr himself I have decided on A Lighter Me with Dr Elias Ortiz. I booked and will be taking the plung on 12/28/15. I too am only at a 33 BMI and dont have comorbidities but do have a few health conditions that make losing weight impossible and i dont want to make them worse or not be around for my kid so this is the best thing for me. I hope you are able to chose a Dr and begin your path as well. I have become a wealth of knowlege recently about this procedure due to my obsession since I work in the health care industry lol. Feel free to message me if you would like to chat or have questions etc :)
Thank you so much. I will definitely have some questions I'm sure.
Congrats on setting a date - It's nice you have some time before then to slowly drop the required weight (or you could have a food funeral like me - don't do that!) :) Best of luck to you!
Have you decided? Your story sounds EXACTLY like mine! I live in the Phoenix area, I have a BMI of 35 and my husband isn't too excited about going to Mexico for surgery but I feel like Dr. Ortiz may be a better fit than some of the doctors here in the states. I'm torn.. but would LOVE to hear what decisions you have made and how things are going! I was thinking since I live close enough to drive to the OCC, that I may consider driving over there just to check it out and see if I like it... just an idea..
I am having vsg done on NOV 9 with Mexico bariatric center. I can let you know how my experience was once I get back
