I'm traveling to Tijuana this week to have Orbera placed. Over the past seven months, I've gained 20 lbs. I was about 15 lbs overweight to begin with. Since my BMI is 28, they won't do the procedure here in the US. I start my liquid diet in weds, and have it inserted Friday. Pretty nervous and excited!

Hello all! Thanks for your comments and posts. I just got back to the hotel after a day at the hospital here in Tijuana. The shuttle camr for me about 7:30 Am. Checked into the hospital and waited in my hospital gown in a room for about a half hour. The dr. Came in and answered some questions, then the nurse out an IV in me. I was then wheeled into the operating room. The staff was all very friendly and professional. They sprayed some anesthesia in my throat and put something in my nose and mouth, turned me onto my side and I was out.
Woke up around 9:15. I immediately felt nauseous, so they put some medicine inti my IV. They consistently did that throughout the day. I did throw up once after I ate some jello too fast. It was just liquid and nothing too gross.
I was slightly annoyed when they told me I would only be in the room for an hour, and it Turned into many. I was even more annoyed when I didn't get my belongings until 3:25. I had no phone to look at or books to read because they were all in my bags. I eventually got them tho, and it was fine. Nobody knew the wifi password there, so I couldn't surf the web. Thank god I downloaded some Netflix shows last night into my phone. I was feeling a lot better and spoke with the dr, got my paperwork and Was sent back to the hotel. They wanted me to stay the night at the hospitsl but I was more comfortable at the hotel. I feel fine right now, other than feeling like I just ate a whole pizza. Hoping I can get some sleep tonight and avoid getting nauseous on the ride home/on the plane. I seriously feel like I could go walk around the town right now, but I'm going to try to rest. Anyone coming down here for the balloon, Judy a heads up the prescriptions will cost $250 in addition to the surgery, and one of them is a liquid ( I only did carry-on so now I have to check my small bag which also annoys me). Seriously hoping this thing helps me lose some weight! Trying not to dwell on all the $$ I've spent

So glad to see your post. I'm traveling next Friday and glad to hear your handling like a pro. I feel moments of nervousness. What hotel did you stay?

They keep you at the city center suites. It was nice. Most of the people there were for gastric surgeries, not the balloon. Even someone about my size was having a balloon placed. Anyway, the ride back was fine and the airplane ride was fine. Ate about three spoonfuls if yogurt last night, and am now attempting a protein shake. I had a couple hours of nausea yesterday but otherwise slept really well both nights. My stomach is just very cramped and constantly making noise. I'm hoping to get out for a walk or bike ride today. We'll see how I feel. I'm at 179 today. Was 182 when I left.

Oops I meant to say that someone my size had a gastric surgery. Now I'm wondering if I should've done that...

Your BMI was only 28 so I wholeheartedly believe you're doing the right thing. You haven't done anything permanent and you can always get a sleeve later if needed. Give yourself a try to start eating healthier and exercising regularly. Your situation doesn't warrant a sleeve. Now it's time to reprogram your life! Oh my gosh you will be in your 170's very soon. Take your vitamins and do some exercise to keep your tone. Excited for you, Friday is my big day! Glad you're back home!

Yeah thanks! I'm hoping you are right! Hopefully we can both reclaim our health. Good luck with everything and let me know if you have any questions

@byebyefatty was also going to suggest you bring maylox and don't buy the acid relief they prescribe - called riopan. Riopan cost $10 a bottle and you are supposed to buy four bottles. Wishing I had saved some $ and either only bought one bottle or skipped all together. You'll probably still want the other meds, I stopped taking the anti-nausea but am saving it in case if emergency. They have me some other pain relief pull that dissolves under the tongue and j wish I hadnt bought that, as I don't find it effective. Ibuprofen is probably just as good. When you arrive at the hospital, ask everyone for the wifi password. Your coordinator or the front desk, whoever. Nobody knew it after my procedure and it was a really really boring day. Good luck!

If its medication TSA will let you take it in your carry on no matter the size but it has to be tested first :)

Yep! I found that out after asking them. Just showed them my prescription. Never knew about that!

Well I'm feeling remarkably better than yesterday. I still have heartburn and occasional cramping, but I feel a lot more normal and ready to go back to work tomorrow. I threw up once last night but it was nothing significant. Today, I ate a mashed up hard-boiled egg, some protein shake and half a yogurt. I also did a beach body workout and went for a 22 mile bike ride. I felt a little dizzy on the ride but pretty good overall. The only thing bothering me is the heart burn at night. I'm hoping to start seeing results over the next month!

How are you feeling now and have you weighed yourself again?
July 10, 2017
I feel much better! Still kind of crampy, but the heartburn and nausea have subsided. I've been able to drink a ton of water and I even ate about 2 oz of chicken and a half a cup of steamed veggies yesterday. Made sure to chew my food at least 20 times. I weighed myself today and am 177. So I'm 5.5 lbs down from when I started the pre-op liquid diet on July 5. Going to try to do another workout today or at least go on a walk after work.
