I had the most disastrous experience following a tummy tuck surgery, with the absolute worst, most incompetent, most horrible Doctor on the face of the earth. Having had several hernia surgeries, my lower abdomen was slightly swollen out past my upper abdomen from the trauma and constant swelling, so I wanted to have my lower abdominal muscles tightened back into alignment, and have a tiny bit of loose skin removed. I was living on the east coast of the US at the time, so I had a phone consult with this (so-called) Dr, and we discussed everything. He said it would be no problem, and so I travelled to California, and then Mexico for the surgery a couple of weeks later.
I think the pictures are pretty self-explanatory, but here is the story behind the biggest nightmare of, and absolute darkest moment in my life. Following the surgery, I returned home, and a couple of days later, the entire lower abdomen area went a horrible black color, smelled absolutely horrific, and then shortly after, the skin started to break apart. I was constantly in contact with the Dr, though that being said, I would call his office and his staff would tell me he was unavailable, and I would text him and get a reply maybe 8-10 hours later. Very re-assuring when you are panicking because your body is starting to look like a decomposed corpse's. Eventually when we spoke, he told me that I had skin necrosis and that a tiny bit of the huge black area would come off "like a scab." What actually happened was, as you can see, the whole area tore apart and started to fall off bit-by-bit and bleed heavily. It looked like something from a horror film. When I reached out to the Dr, he just kept saying "don't worry, it will all be fine" and basically just dismissed me entirely. When the skin finally tore right off, leaving a huge, gaping, bloody, disgusting hole, I frantically kept asking him if it looked infected (via pictures I sent), and he said several times, over several days - "no, no it looks absolutely fine. Definitely not infected." When it started to look and smell even more grotesque, I eventually went to the hospital, where the plastic surgeons there told me that it was EXTREMELY infected, had I waited another couple of days it would have likely gone septic, and I could have DIED!!! They also said they had never seen a post-surgical disaster this bad. I then spent the next few days in hospital, had to have a surgery to remove the dead skin, debris and infection. After that I was required to wear a vac dressing which is basically a huge, loud, heavy, pump-like machine which I had to carry around and sleep with, for about 2 months.
Once the huge wound had healed, I thankfully found another surgeon who actually did know what he was doing, and then some. He performed another abdominoplasty/scar revision hybrid surgery to cut out the HUGE area of heavy scar tissue that I was left with. An absolute nightmare of a year and a half later, I finally look pretty much normal again aside from a long scar along my lower abdomen that I would have had anyway. I don't think I need to say any more about this surgeon, he is not only the absolutely worst, most incompetent Dr in the world, but he is genuinely an absolutely horrible human being. If you don't want an experience like this, I wholeheartedly encourage you to not go to this Dr for your surgery.
