Nice Work, Still Holding Up Well

WORTH IT

Tummy tuck was 2.5 ys ago. I had lost 50 lbs 10 ys prior, so lots of sagging. Had attempted lipo with a different doctor 7 ys ago, but not effective - too much extra skin, effects lumpy, and it was a Top Doc is Sacramento.

Campos did a beautiful job -- so good I was able to wear crop tops (at 56!). Just gained about 30 lbs back (grrr) but the tummy tuck still looks good -- best part of my body. Only complaint is that I wish I had done the upper belly -- not just below the belly button. But what was done was done very well.

Surgical Butt Lift vs. BBL

During the pre surgery consultation, morning of the surgery, I informed Dr Campos that I had decided not to do the tummy tuck + BBL and instead do complete leg lipo and BBL.

A little background: I'm 55, lost 40 or 50 pounds 10 years ago, still about 15 pounds overweight. No great rolls of fat but severe dimpling - cellulite-like appearance. My bottom dropped several inches and had flattened out as a result. Chance of a former small waist obscured by fat below the waist. Typical exercise resistant pockets of fat on my inner thighs, outer thighs, around my knees, my calves and ankles, and back of thighs below the butt.

He said the liposuction would not be successful without removing all the extra skin. " you have a skin problem", he said, "not a fat problem". Adding to that, he pointed out my skin has very bad elasticity. He said liposuction would leave portions of my legs looking even worse, with more dimpling and irregularities. I argued that when I lose weight, my legs look much better. He argued that natural weight loss is different from liposuction and the results are always better. He said I wouldn't get the results that I wanted unless I did a surgical butt lift, and with a tummy tuck, he said I'd be much much happier with the results. Of course I didn't want the scars.
Then he took a pencil and he lifted up on the skin of my thighs lightly and said " do you see how much better your legs look when the extra skin is removed?" The dimpling went away and what looked like a 3" band of fat/cellulite on the back of my thighs, below the but, disappeared. At that point I was convinced. After keeping him about half an hour longer than the usual pre-op 15 min. chat, I shook his hand and said "Okay, you've convinced me." He looked pleased, and relieved.

About 4 days post surgery, despite the normal swelling, and with the compression garment on, my bottom looks fantastic, my waist is definitely smaller and I have an hourglass figure again.

I understand that to get an extreme hourglass I have to make my but enormous, but I didn't want that. I also realize that there are limitations to how much fat they can liposuction off your waist, but my shape looks pretty damn good.

As a caveat, I already had a pretty big bottom so I didn't need a lot of fat transferred, but my bottom had definitely lost its shape, perkiness, and all its charm after I lost all that weight. The dimpling really bad but apparently it was all cused by the extra skin.

I'll post after photos later, I don't know if I can bear to look at the pre-surgery photo again, if you know what I mean. But I can assure you it looked really bad.

No Lap Kitties! Post-surgery warning

On a topic rarely considered -- pain and shock caused by lap kitties, post-tummy tuck surgery, when they jump in your lap. They really should include a warning in the aftercare instructions.

Expect these heat-seeking missiles to be irritated when suddenly your lap is off-limits, the mood heavy with their indignance, as you can see in the photo below. Then hurt and confusion.
But now, looking at the photos, it occurs to me that Kramer could use a chin implant.

Thanks for the chuckle lol He's a cutie ;)
Keep a good eye on your incision. I had a pretty bad infection with my TT. If you feel heat or see redness get on antibiotics. Mine heals fine after a few months but I have larger scar because of it.
Thanks for the warning -- I'll pay closer attention. They did put me on a preventive antibiotic but only a sulpha drug ( I understand the importance of not prescribing antibiotics unless they're actually needed). One interesting thing about dr. Campos is that they recommended showering everyday, patting it dry and then spraying it with a little antibacterial spray bottle they give you. When I had my inner thigh lift by another Top Doc, 10 yrs ago, he said "no showering. What were your aftercare instructions? I'm curious.
They had me shower and pat dry. I think my infection came from smoking at the time. I was a heavy smoker and I just didn't get enough oxygen in the area. The blood supply is already limited by I jinxed it by arrogantly smoking. I don't blame the doctor, he was fantastic I just didn't listen. Lol
Well congratulations on quitting. I quit about 23 years ago and it was the hardest thing I ever did.
Hi again,
How long was the pain intense after your tummy tuck? I mean intense enough to need to take pain medication....thank you lpatte.
I tick pain meds the first two days and then occasionally at night to get a good sleep. Pain wasn't to bad I had a hard time getting off the toilet or out of bed. Thing that you need to use your stomach muscles to do. I remember rolling to get of the bed lol. The bad part of the TT that I wasn't prepared for was the swelling. Mine lasted 6+ months.
Sorry I'm using my phone to message while I'm out walking so spelling and grammar are being altered by my autocorrect lol. Gotta lose 10 lbs so I'm walking everyday
I understand totally -- I use voice recognition software all the time and send out some funny bloopers at times.

I don't know why but for some reason I seem to have more pain than some or many other women. I'm on day 3 and the pain is not substantially less than it was the morning after, and I'm having to take meds every 6 hrs., albeit tramadol; not an opiate). I'm not a weeny -- the pain is real, and sharp. Had a hard time with my leg lift surgery too. I've read that everyone doesn't experience pain the same way.
Well you had a lot more done at once. I hated after its healed you get the sharp electrocution jolts of pain when the nerve endings are growing back together. I also had my TT at 33 so I'm sure the healing was faster. I'm worried how long it will take for the bbl. I see the younger girls looking great a 2 weeks. I will probably sore at 2 months
Probably...but still worth it.
In my case, they had to make an incision all the way around, front and back, so probably explains extra pain. Yes, those growing nerve endings are a strange sensation indeed. Thank you lpatte.
Just keep popping pain pills and relax. Eat lots of pineapple to reduce swelling. Or tale the bromelain tablets. Don't rush recovery you will look fabulous for Spring
I didn't know pineapple was a diuretic! Thank you, I will, and I appreciate your encouragement. The recovery is a challenge, indeed, and can be lonely, so I appreciate the dialogue. Many of my friends/colleagues are a bit judgmental on the topic, so I don't feel like I can talk about it with them. This forum is a blessing.
Not sure if it's a diuretic but it is anti Inflammatory. A lot of the Miami doctors have it in their recovery meal plan for bbl patients. I used bromelain tablets with my TT but I'm sure eating it is more effective. It did help with the recovery. I love this group too. I love to hear all the stories and great advice from people who have gone through it. The doctors only tell you so much.
NO COMEDY! Another post-surgery warning.

Gets a bit lonely sitting in bed alone with the pain and fears post-surgery. Live alone. Last night I decided to boost my mood with some comedy -- youtube videos of my favorite comedians. The minute I started laughing the pain was intense and it felt as if I was straining my incision. But I couldn't break myself away because the comedy was so good. So I tried laughing through my nose, with my teeth clenched and my tummy as still as possible. This helped, but then I pulled a muscle in my abs region that I felt every time I moved in bed.

So, just a head's up.
