Thigh Lift Surgery After Weight Gain Due to Thyroid Cancer

WORTH IT
I had thyroid cancer at the age of 18. Your thyroid controls your metabolism, so when I had mine taken out, my weight went from 118 lbs to 168 lbs in less than 2 months which really stretched my skin. I begged my surgeon for the last 5 years after having a successful abdominal skinectomy and breast augmentation to remove the extra skin left behind on my legs. I called my body a tale of 2 cities. At 16 percent bodyfat, my upper body was jacked and ripped and my lower body just hung there. After 5 years of regular crossfit classes and esting clean 80 percent of the time, Dr Leigh finally agreed to do my procedure. He was able to do a posterior and medial thigh lift and butt lift through one incision under my cheeks. I was so nervous going into it because I thought I would be in such horrible pain when I woke up, but I wasn't! Other than some burning and stiffness at the incision sites, I feel pretty good at day 2. I can already tell the skin looks tighter all around. Peeing is a challenge with the garment on but my go girl I bought to pee standing up has been a huge help! I'm down to 1 percocet every 6 hours, 4 ibuprofen and 50 mg of CBD a day for swelling. Will post pictures on Monday when I can take my garment off.

You look awesome! I’ve been looking for someone that has had a thigh lift that was small. And I didn’t know about the scars being under the butt. All I’ve seen on here are scars all down the inside of the leg....and I just don’t know. Your comment about going into CVS in shorts and how ‘free’ you felt, that’s how I want to feel @ my legs! Mine is due to yo yo dieting my entire life, working out like crazy until 4 years ago, stopping due to neck surgeries. So my flat stomach is loose, my cut arms, well my triceps hang now :(. I can walk and do squats without it hurting my neck....but even when younger and before neck issues, I could never get my the inner thighs tight. Loose skin no matter what I did. Now I’m older...the laxity(sp?) is worse.
The BIG thing is my knees. They’ve always had ‘fat’ pads or whatever above the knee cap. No workout helped. Now the skin is lax also.

Did your lift address down to your knees? I look in mirror and pull up from my thighs....and that’s what I want! Lol.

If you feel comfortable could you message a front before picture? In your before side pic....it doesn’t look like you needed anything done!

I want to try what you’ve done....if it helps the knees and front of thighs....and the scar in just under the behind! Thanks so much!!! Take care :)

Hey Anne! Yes I know that the majority of people that have thigh lifts have lost 100 plus pounds. When I was looking for someone similar to my body shape, I was frustrated by the lack of information.
My scars go from my butt crease to my inner thighs and then down the inner thigh about 2 inches on both sides. The scar is really easy to cover thankfully!
Even though I have already gained 6 lbs in the last month from being immobile, my confidence has increased dramatically! I used to always wear a robe around my boyfriend and now I happily prance about nude lol.
There is nothing that will remove the skin other than a thigh lift. I spent so many years hating my body and going on strict diets that left my chest bones protruding and yet I had these awful hanging full thighs. I am so happy that I can begin my 40th year with this new found confidence! I would make sure you do your homework when looking for a good surgeon. My Dr doesn't do a lot of these because of how Invasive it is but after he saw that I kept my tummy up after he did it 5 years earlier, he was willing to do this for me.
So honestly, I feel like I wish I had done the front of my thighs as well. They do look so much better from the back and sides that I dont care so much about the front but of course, the perfectionist in me wishes I had. What I will tell you that I was NOT expecting that EVERYTHING has shifted "down below" about a half an inch! When I pee, it splatters in a bunch directions and when I have sex with my boyfriend, my G spot has shifted as well! That is something I have not heard anyone else talk about but when you think about it, it makes sense. Also now that my bitt skin is tighter, my rectum doesn't line up where it used to and it's been a little interesting to say the least to get used to lol.
To address the front of the knee, you would knee the incision that goes across the top of the hip. I think the scar is worth the tight skin trade off, however, at this point, I'm just not ready to even think about having one more cut on my body. I was supposed to go get my hormone pellet replaced and I couldnt bring myself to undergo the incision necessary and will ne using a cream for a while instead. I feel like I'm finally coming out of shell shock that my body actually underwent this major surgery. It's totally worth it to me but boy, it's been a lot harder than I could have ever imagined, and I've had cancer lol. Being an active person and not having the ability to really move for 3 weeks was humbling. But I encourage anyone who hides their body in shame to find a reputable Dr and take back your life! I will post some more before and after pictures by the weekend. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks so much for replying! I’m looking at your before.....and I don’t see much of an issue lol. But I know his you feel....my family one see mine, but I do. The front of my thighs. And knees is my issue. I’m older than you and haven’t been able to hit the gym as I used to. It seems that just one day I looked abs saw how bad the skin’s ‘ crepe’ has gotten so much worse. Plus do to lack of weight bearing exercises which my body was used to....I lost the muscle and have such loose skin. At 110 lbs I need to gain....muscle. With Lupus, it hurts like heck, and after a weeks of doing it I pay....dearly. Drs just tell me to do light exercises, but that won’t help me now. Sun damage didn’t help any, nor the losing weight.
I see yours without the scars going down the insides of legs....and I have hope! But didn’t you say it didn’t effect your front? In your pics your fronts look tight though.
I guess I’m asking if you’d done the front....how would your surgeon have performed the front? You mentioned if I wanted to address me knees I’d have a scar on my hip....I was taking that as MAYBE there’s a way to avoid the cutting all down the legs .....for a front lift?
I know all on here have that type done, that I’ve seen, with exception of yours and one more. So I’m assuming that your surgeon has a different technique?
Sorry for so many questions but I want the self confidence that you’re talking about....have worked out all my life, never had ‘legs’ but worse now due to aging process and genetics. I see the others that their scars have faded on the inside, but I am so funny about touching anything like that! I am 4 weeks post op from a deep plane FL and CO2 laser.....but I don’t have to see or touch anything more than 3 small incisions, and I’ve had worse from cuts over the years!

I’m looking st your photos on my phone....so I’ll check them out on my iPad to see what you’re calling hanging or loose :).
Thanks again so much! Take care and pray your healing is better each day. Sounds like you need to take it easy!

Did he do a small BBL also, or just a thigh lift? Did he use some of the "autologous tissue" in your butt to build it up, as I hear thigh lifts often deflate the butt, but yours looks great!

When is your surgery?

Did if have any cellulite onyour outer or inner thighs? If so, did it help with that?
User Avatar

I did! My cellulite is completely gone from the back of my thighs and sides. I do have some left around the knee area and wish I had also done the front side but I am so happy with how much better it looks! My boyfriend said my scars are already fading and it's only been 8 weeks!

So the medial and posterior lift got rid of the cellulite on the sides of your thighs? How long did you sleep on your stomach and it may be personal by when did you get back to sex? :) TY!

After mostly sleeping for 4 days and standing to pee, my incisions seem to have finally closed up. They are really tight! I cant put my own socks on yet but I can reach down and touch the floor. I'm off all pain meds other than topical CBD and ibuprofen. I was able to walk to the grocery store about a mile and it felt really good to get out of the house. Sitting is still really tough. I am hoping that by doing some bodywork on it myself(I'm a massage therapist by profession) it will continue to get looser. It looks pretty great right now considering I have been stuck in the compression garment for 5 days. I can tell there is still alot of swelling around the incisions and know that area will take the most time to heal. The skin laxity is much better but I can tell I would have been happier doing the front of the thigh as well. But that's just the perfectionist in me. I'm already looking forward to wearing shorts to yoga for the first time ever in my adult life. This surgery has changed my quality of life so immensely. The pain and discomfort is totally worth it to feel so much more confident about my body!

Looking good! Your legs look great, front of the thigh included! Was doing the front of your thighs an option? If so, why did you opt for doing the back only? If you’d done the front, would your incision have extended around to the front of the leg? Also, do you mind sharing how much you invested on the surgery? I’m de-bulking first, then deciding what to do. Thanks for sharing with us!

Thanks! My dr didnt feel like the front needed as much work as the inner thighs and hamstring/glute area. The inner thigh incisions that come more towards the front have the possibility of pulling your vagina open permanently so he felt like the risk of that wasn't worth it.
As far as cost, I am very lucky that I used to massage my surgeon so he gives me a pretty amazing deal. There's no way I would be able to afford all of the surgery at full price. I know it runs between 6 and 18,000$ depending on how much work needs to be done. I saw the Dr today and I could tell he was really happy with my results and how great I am healing already!

You look amazing! Who did it and how much does it cost? Been very interested in getting this done. I’m thin but getting older makes thighs and tush sag.
