Trying to be patient

WORTH IT$4,000
Well, tomorrow will be one month post-op for me! Although, I saw a huge difference the first day, I have since swelled and now developed lumps around my navel. The left flank has an indention in it and the area right above the indention is very sore and sensitive to the touch. Other than that, the soreness and numbness in most areas are gone. I just am still swollen and lumpy. I called my doctor and was told that it was all normal and that in time, the lumps and swelling will subside. I sure hope so. I do look better in my clothing, but I was hoping to have more of a shape than I have right now. I guess I have no choice, but to be patient.

Hang in there! I had lipo a year ago and it took MONTHS for the swelling to go away. I had numbness in my lower back for nearly a year. Everybody is different, but it really does take a long time to see the final results. Best wishes!
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I did all the research before the procedure and knew it would take time, but you get a little nervous when you look good the first day and then all hell breaks loose and you seem to be bigger than pre-op! Plus, spending a lot of money on myself is a big deal for me and I can't help but think of how it might have been for nothing! I am going to just let time heal all things and focus on the holidays! Thanks, again!
It's so great that you took pictures the first day, because seriously, sometimes that's all you have to keep you going.  And, of course, all the wonderful ladies on here who will assure you that yes, that swelling is normal and yes, it does go away eventually and double-yes, you will look better than your immediate post-op pics, so that is the absolute baseline for you.  They took out fat, they did not add it, so the swelling must dissipate.  As long as you remain diligent about your diet, you will look great.  I didn't, and so some of my results have been lost, but the parts I got done still look better.  The weight-gain settles elsewhere.  So try to be careful, but know that the swelling will go :D.
Thanks, Two! I am trying to be patient and give in to the process, but it is hard. Also, I have not been that diligent with my diet. I am afraid that I will sabotage my results during the holidays. After all, I am a Louisiana girl and we look to cook and love to eat even more! I will just do portion control and watch my salt intake during these upcoming holidays. Wish me luck!!!
I wish you the very best of luck and much strength and fortitude for the coming holidays :D.  You can do it!
It's almost 1 month and i believe you will see a more drastic change in the 3rd month the swelling is the Worst part. The lumps will subside in due time. No Worries,i had some on my arms. Tiny little ones like hard marbles. But all is good. TGIF!!
Annette I am 10 months post and went through several stages. At about ur timeframe I was still swollen with lumps and ready to through in the towel. I bought an electric hand held massager with interchangeable head from Amazon for about $30. I started massaging aggressively for 2-3 Times a day for 15 minutes using cocoa butter. By three months they had improved and my six months they were pretty well gone. I had swelling until six months. The day of my three month check I bought a pair of skinny jeans, a couple of weeks ago I but them on and had to wear a belt to hold the up. Patients is the key. Good luck.
Thanks for the words of encouragement, "Colorado"! I am trying to stay positive and not rush the process, but some times it gets difficult to even fathom that things will get better. I will continue my journey by doing what I can to reduce the swelling, but I won't beat myself up when I do have those days. I will just remember to drink plenty of water, continue my walking and let the healing take place. Thanks to all of you for your support!!!!
Sounds like a plan. Good luck. Keep us posted.
OK -- I just have to say, your slippers rock! AND as everyone has posted, it will get better. I am approaching my 3 month mark and I still have massive swell days and then some days where I say "wow -- looks pretty good". It is definitely a roller coaster but as long as you wear your slippers and keep smiling, it will get better. We are here for you!
Thanks for the support and the compliments on my pink puppy slippers! They do keep me smiling, even on my swollen days! I will take your advice to stay positve and patient with myself and the process!

One-Week Post Op

Went for my one-week appointment. I was told that all incisions had healed fine and there were no signs of inflammation or infection. There is still swelling in the stomach, sides and back, but all is normal. There are also hard spots in my stomach which were referred to as edemas. I was told these would go away on their own in time. Still lots of tenderness in the stomach and back areas. When I complained that the garment was bunching up in the back and sides, I was told that was because I was getting smaller and that I needed to shrink the garment by washing it and letting it dry on high heat for the full cycle. I had washed it before, but let it tumble dry on delicate to keep it's shape. I did wash it last night and dried according to the doctor's instructions and the bunching is gone. I will probably purchase a smaller garment in a couple of weeks. Also, I did go shopping yesterday because my pants do not fit properly because I am so swollen in the stomach. Thank fashion gods that there are now these leggings-type pants that look like slim leg slacks, but have the soft elastic top! I bought a couple of these and some loose, professional tops. I also tried on some dresses, and I have gone down a dress size. I actually have a waist!!! Although I am still in pain right now, I am staying focused on the light at the end of the tunnel!

Good for u. It does take time to get to the point WE want to be. Good luck.
Thank you! Just concerned about the edemas that have formed and causing a little discomfort. I know they will go away with time. I just have to deal with it for now. Thank you, again for your comments.
I had a unique experience twelve days after surgery. While I was doing the massage the lower right scab came of and a bloody fluid gussed down my leg onto the floor. By the time I got it stopped it had soaked a clean bath towel. Am I ever grateful that it did not happen on the plane ride home two days earlier.
Wow, I know that had to be a horrifying experience. I just have a couple of areas that have hard knots and the area right outside of the "knots" are very tender. I am still swollen, but the edemas are painful to the touch. I started massaging them last night and I did get some relief. So that is a good thing. Whoever said that plastic surgery is the easy way out is crazy!!! LOL! This is anything, but easy - at least that is my experience.

3-Day Post Op

Well, still rather sore and stiff. All draining ceased on Saturday evening. I then went to band-aids just in case. I returned to work on Monday, but left early due to swelling and pain in lower back. I think because of my age and my inactivity, my healing maybe just a little slower and difficult. Most of the pain is in my back. Although, I do not see any bruising, there are areas that still very sensitive to touch. My sides are fine, but my tummy is still numb in places and swollen. I do feel a pulling sensation around the belly button when I stand after sitting for long periods of time. Each day the pain is getting better, but I do still have a lot of sore spots and a lot of swelling. I am going to keep taking the Arnica and replenish my supply of organic pineapple juice. My post-op appointment is set for Saturday. I will see what the doctor thinks about my progress.

Happy healing!  I still feel a little pulling around my BB and I'll 6 weeks on Thursday, so that sounds normal to me :).  But yeah, these early days, you're gonna be feeling it.  That's probably a good thing--means something was done, right? :D
Thanks for the words of encouragement! I am hanging in there, especialky since it appears that things are going as expected. I just have to tough it out!
:D.  You'll get through it no matter what.  Whether you tough it out or whine about it like I do ;).  LOL!   Whatever makes you feel better--we'll support you either way!  I perswhine in every single update:)
Thanks, "Two"! I was having a painful day yesterday and I had a Debbie Downer at my job saying negative things about people who have plastic surgery and how it was a waste of money. I was a little taken aback by her comments and because I was not feeling my best, did not have a quick comeback for her. So, I was a little depressed. I know it is a process that can't be rushed and I am feeling better with each day. I just need to keep the "haters" away!!! :)
Annette4554 -- hang in there. You are doing great. Please don't let others get you down just because they do not understand your choices. And they are your choices; no one else's. That's the thing about opinions - everyone has one; and often do not know when to keep it to themselves. We all deserve to feel good about ourselves, whatever form that takes so I am proud of you for doing something for you! One a side note, I too felt a pull around my belly button and radiating downwards for a few weeks post surgery -- and usually after sitting for long periods of time. It's all normal. You really are doing great!
