56 Yo, Time to Freshen Up and Look How I Feel ....Here I Come! - Thailand

ORIGINAL POST

Well, like many on real self, I have been thinking...

Moorea
WORTH IT$9,000
Well, like many on real self, I have been thinking about this for many years, and my husband has said.." Just go for it". I have been researching back and forth and finally decided on Thailand. I met with plastic surgeons here in Australia and the cost is just exorbitant, although I wish I could do it here. I started looking at thailand and got recommendations from a ps here in Australia which has helped as well. I am travelling alone which is daunting, but I have told no one. Hubby can't take time off work, so off I go.
Wondering if anyone else has done it alone and how did they cope?
I am going thru a medical travel agency which is based here in Australia, they get great reviews and so far have been brilliant. They provide a personal assistant whilst under their care which appeals to me travelling alone. For the second week post op I will be travelling to a wellness resort to recuperate mind and body.
Wondering if I will want to chicken out?!
Any advice guys?? Will post some before shots closer to surgery date which is april 28.

I wish you all the luck in the world for this adventure in the next phase of your life! You go girl.
February 13, 2015
Thanks so much! I have just been reading a scary review... Oh well 2 months to get ready!!!
February 14, 2015
There are so many "scary" reviews stick to the "worth it" reviews to keep your mind in the correct place. Is there a reason why you are traveling outside of your home country?
February 15, 2015
Cost is the only reason. If money was no object i would stay here but triple the price.
February 13, 2015
can I ask what doctor u are going with and what agency as have been looking myself and is so hard to decide
February 13, 2015
Hi I am going with Thai surgery (trina the lady who runs it is brilliant) I have seen quite a few before and after shots and have spoken to them as well on their private Facebook page. I am having Dr Thiti. I found it really confusing and spoke to 2 other agencies in phuket but more expensive there, and advice all so conflictive. Let me know if I can help any more
February 14, 2015
Hi moorea thanks heaps for letting me know what u are doing and who u are going with. The more I look the more confused I become. One minute I had dr seree, then nond then rushapol. I just can't decide and that is all that is holding me up. I will look into the agency u are going with I haven't heard of that doctor but am sure u would of looked into reveiws. Did u look to see who Rosemary went with. She said to look at Rosemary 2001 but not sure how to do that. Keep in touch u never know u may have a traveling companion yet as I want to have something in motion end March April
February 14, 2015
Don't go with Rushapol, I was warned against him and I saw some photos of his suture lines... Ughh bad
February 13, 2015
I'm doing the same soon. I'm also in Australia and I have done CS before in Thailand but not alone so, am a bit nervous. Please let me know who you went with re medical travel agency, the ps you saw, the hospital, how it was being alone and how it all was. If you are comfortable to tell, please tell what you had done. I'm 53 and looking to do a neck lift and upper and lower eyes. I will be waiting to hear eagerly! I hope it all went well for you. Warm wishes :)

I am having surgery april 28 in Bangkok thru Thailand cosmetic surgery and trina eliasson is organising, she has been great so contact her. She is based in Australia as well which is great. They provide a personal assistant whilst under their care which really appeals to me. I am having neck, face upper eyes. Maybe lower but not 100% on lower. Maybe you can come with me... Lol
February 13, 2015
Hospital is pyathai..
February 14, 2015
haha I actually thought that too! ie going together. I have emailed a Plastic surgeon that received good reviews on here and have sent him pictures. I had notified a CS agency prior, but they were not answering any of my questions so I gave up. I am awaiting the Plastic surgeon's reply. After this convo, I'm going to checkout the agency you mentioned. It is a tricky thing choosing the right place and surgeon in Thailand. I had such a horrific experience in Thailand at Bumrungrad hospital 10 years ago. The hospital is resort like and Internationally owned but the surgeon I had was either a woman hater or Westerner hater or both. He was abusive towards me as well as very rough during and after surgery. He also messed up my eye which, I received a refund for after complaining. I got this after agreeing to not speak publicly about the situation for 10 years. Now that the time is up, I'm spreading the word to ward people off this surgeon and the hospital. This time, I'm hoping to get in around March, April or May. It would be great to know someone whilst there so who knows, we might be able to catch up. I was so reliant on my partner last time after the surgery (mind you, I had more than facial stuff done so, needed assistance for several days post Op.) I told noone then and will keep a secret this time too. I'll keep in touch :)
February 18, 2015
Sounds great! Private message me when u decide
February 18, 2015
Funny this message from you has just come through because I'm chatting online with Trina right now. She seems a tad pushy for me to do more work..was she like that with you?
February 13, 2015
Hi, I just had a complete Facelift plus upper and lower eyes done in Thailand. The results are fantastic - I'm so glad I did it. I basically did it alone, although my son was here to pick me up after I was released from the Hospital. That was a big help - but if he hadn't been here I would have been okay too. Look at my Pictures under Rosemary 2001. All the best! Rosemary
February 13, 2015
Wow thanks Rosemary! Who did u have and how r the suture lines and where r they positioned? I am most worried about visable suture lines. Which company did u use?
February 14, 2015
Hi, I didn't use a company. I found a site called Beauty Med and made the first appointment through them - although I'm sure you can also do it directly through the hospital. The info about the Hospital and the surgeon are in the postings I made. Suture lines are almost invisible - and it's been less than a month since I had the OP. This is -just so you're in the picture- a quite normal hospital. Not luxurious. But the surgeon is welll-known and does an excellent Job. Wish you all the best.

Ok 3'weeks to go! I get such a knot in my stomach when I think about it all! I hope this is normal....will I chicken out? It is all paid for...but....
Surgery now scheduled for may1st due to family medical issues, and using a different surgeon due to date change. I am also happy with the new surgeon and have seen his work. He is also a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.
Any one got any advice on things I should take?
Anyone else got advice on how to tackle the nerves?

Nerves will drive you nuts. You have three weeks to go try not to think about it too much - easier said than done - I am 30 days post op and am thrilled each and every day I look in the mirror that previously I avoided like the plague. Keep positive and happy, attitude is half the battle before and after surgery. Not sure what you are having done but if like most of us and the neck is included, start taking out those necklaces and dust them off because you will be rocking them soon. Even when I was able to not think directly about upcoming surgery it was always in the back of my mind, I don't think it ever disappears completely. What I can say is that at three weeks you will probably find that you will calm down just because of how far away the date is. It will peak when you get on that plane, feelings of anxiety, excitement, happiness and sometimes fear of the unknown will spin around in your head. Just always think of the whole picture and why you are doing this, it is a gift to yourself. A plastic and reconstructive surgeon is excellent choice. You've done your research, will be well taken care of, follow all pre and post instructions and take your Arnica Montana for bruising and swelling. Don't worry about what you will look like right after surgery, always think of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Be happy and excited that you are able to do this for yourself, you won't regret it. Good luck

I have been thinking about FL for over ten years, now reading all the incredible sharing of surgeries on RS so brave, kind and generous everyone is. What a journey just even to contemplate that maybe I can do this for myself. I am in Australia with limited funds and look to Thailand so will follow your journey, and send you blessings over the coming weeks.

Thank you for your message of support. Are you in Melb by any chance?
April 9, 2015
Hi Moorea, I'm here in North NSW quite a distance. I really would love to talk with you as this journey unfolds.

HI - I don't know if you saw my Vietnam adventure - but everything turned out just fine. Don't chicken out! You are much more secure than I was - I had no travel agency, no personal assistant - no one even knew where I was. Don't worry so much - when my friend say to me how could you go to Vietnam what if something went wrong? And I only say back what if something goes wrong here? It's all up to the doctors and the quality of the care and let me tell you the quality of the care there is terrific. Even better than here because their nurses and doctors really are not burdened by Insurance and liability like they are in the United States. Really the patient comes third here. Looking for Joan Rivers. She died in the middle of the best hospitals in the best doctors in the world. I had a 12 hour surgery two nights in the hospital and 10 more days in HCM City by myself the only person who knew exactly where I was was 9000 miles away. Everything was fine!!

Yes I saw your post and was impressed by your courage! Thanks so much for your kind words

I had FL in December in St Louis hospital with Dr Nond. It was good, neck is great. One cheek is a bit stretched, but I need a tooth implant on that side so it is not as muscular. I may go back for implant. If you want dental do it before FL. Implant too invasive to do both at once. I stayed at AdLib Hotel and booked with Heath Care Hands through their website. But HCH were a bit misleading saying that the Ad Lib Hotel was their recovery hotel. This was not true. Their were 5 other surgery guests there, but you were in a public hotel. I was happy with their nursing and the girls were sweet, but the website charged me $200 extra to book the hotel on top of current price. I never got that back. It was nice to have a few Aussies there though who had successful procedures the week before. It was also nice to be picked up at airport and be taken to appointments etc. The hospitals and the nursing seems cleaner and more caring. Would do it again. After using the skytrain for some sightseeing after, I will probably use that next time to get from airport etc. Also taxis were good and well priced. Good luck

Thank you for that info! Makes me feel better hearing that you were happy. I will post my progress.

I have friends who have has cosmetic surgery in Thailand, with excellent results. Go for it.
April 17, 2015
Thanks so much! I need to hear that! My daughter keeps telling me she is worried about me over there which is fresking me out!
April 18, 2015
Not long now you have done the hard bit, all the research and committing with payment, hang in there.. I was to send you my email, how can I do that by pm? L
April 22, 2015
Are you having a general anesthetic or local with sedation (Twilight sedation)? Ask how long you will be on the operating table and ask about what the doctor does to prevent DVT/VTE - blood clots. Thigh high compression stockings might be one thing suggested. You need to measure correctly and they cost about $80 a pair here in Australia. Main thing is to check with your doctor.

All over and extremely happy

Ok so surgery was 11 days ago and I have to admit I was beside myself pre op.. Ready to walk out just because I was on my own. Everything went so smoothly, care was excellent, all antibiotics, creams and ointments included. Couldn't fault the whole process.
I had little bruising and swelling and honestly think I could have returned to work day 10. Brilliant outcome love this doctors work, think it has turned back the clock 10 years at least. Suture lines barely visible now. I am super impressed.
The $9000 USD I spent included all accommodation flights etc for 2 weeks away.
I am not going to post photos online as I want to remain anonymous but happy to share experience via private message.
