WORTH IT$9,000
Well, like many on real self, I have been thinking about this for many years, and my husband has said.." Just go for it". I have been researching back and forth and finally decided on Thailand. I met with plastic surgeons here in Australia and the cost is just exorbitant, although I wish I could do it here. I started looking at thailand and got recommendations from a ps here in Australia which has helped as well. I am travelling alone which is daunting, but I have told no one. Hubby can't take time off work, so off I go.
Wondering if anyone else has done it alone and how did they cope?
I am going thru a medical travel agency which is based here in Australia, they get great reviews and so far have been brilliant. They provide a personal assistant whilst under their care which appeals to me travelling alone. For the second week post op I will be travelling to a wellness resort to recuperate mind and body.
Wondering if I will want to chicken out?!
Any advice guys?? Will post some before shots closer to surgery date which is april 28.

Ok 3'weeks to go! I get such a knot in my stomach when I think about it all! I hope this is normal....will I chicken out? It is all paid for...but....
Surgery now scheduled for may1st due to family medical issues, and using a different surgeon due to date change. I am also happy with the new surgeon and have seen his work. He is also a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.
Any one got any advice on things I should take?
Anyone else got advice on how to tackle the nerves?

Nerves will drive you nuts. You have three weeks to go try not to think about it too much - easier said than done - I am 30 days post op and am thrilled each and every day I look in the mirror that previously I avoided like the plague. Keep positive and happy, attitude is half the battle before and after surgery. Not sure what you are having done but if like most of us and the neck is included, start taking out those necklaces and dust them off because you will be rocking them soon. Even when I was able to not think directly about upcoming surgery it was always in the back of my mind, I don't think it ever disappears completely. What I can say is that at three weeks you will probably find that you will calm down just because of how far away the date is. It will peak when you get on that plane, feelings of anxiety, excitement, happiness and sometimes fear of the unknown will spin around in your head. Just always think of the whole picture and why you are doing this, it is a gift to yourself. A plastic and reconstructive surgeon is excellent choice. You've done your research, will be well taken care of, follow all pre and post instructions and take your Arnica Montana for bruising and swelling. Don't worry about what you will look like right after surgery, always think of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Be happy and excited that you are able to do this for yourself, you won't regret it. Good luck

I have been thinking about FL for over ten years, now reading all the incredible sharing of surgeries on RS so brave, kind and generous everyone is. What a journey just even to contemplate that maybe I can do this for myself. I am in Australia with limited funds and look to Thailand so will follow your journey, and send you blessings over the coming weeks.

HI - I don't know if you saw my Vietnam adventure - but everything turned out just fine. Don't chicken out! You are much more secure than I was - I had no travel agency, no personal assistant - no one even knew where I was. Don't worry so much - when my friend say to me how could you go to Vietnam what if something went wrong? And I only say back what if something goes wrong here? It's all up to the doctors and the quality of the care and let me tell you the quality of the care there is terrific. Even better than here because their nurses and doctors really are not burdened by Insurance and liability like they are in the United States. Really the patient comes third here. Looking for Joan Rivers. She died in the middle of the best hospitals in the best doctors in the world. I had a 12 hour surgery two nights in the hospital and 10 more days in HCM City by myself the only person who knew exactly where I was was 9000 miles away. Everything was fine!!

I had FL in December in St Louis hospital with Dr Nond. It was good, neck is great. One cheek is a bit stretched, but I need a tooth implant on that side so it is not as muscular. I may go back for implant. If you want dental do it before FL. Implant too invasive to do both at once. I stayed at AdLib Hotel and booked with Heath Care Hands through their website. But HCH were a bit misleading saying that the Ad Lib Hotel was their recovery hotel. This was not true. Their were 5 other surgery guests there, but you were in a public hotel. I was happy with their nursing and the girls were sweet, but the website charged me $200 extra to book the hotel on top of current price. I never got that back. It was nice to have a few Aussies there though who had successful procedures the week before. It was also nice to be picked up at airport and be taken to appointments etc. The hospitals and the nursing seems cleaner and more caring. Would do it again. After using the skytrain for some sightseeing after, I will probably use that next time to get from airport etc. Also taxis were good and well priced. Good luck

Not long now you have done the hard bit, all the research and committing with payment, hang in there.. I was to send you my email, how can I do that by pm? L

Are you having a general anesthetic or local with sedation (Twilight sedation)? Ask how long you will be on the operating table and ask about what the doctor does to prevent DVT/VTE - blood clots. Thigh high compression stockings might be one thing suggested. You need to measure correctly and they cost about $80 a pair here in Australia. Main thing is to check with your doctor.

Ok so surgery was 11 days ago and I have to admit I was beside myself pre op.. Ready to walk out just because I was on my own. Everything went so smoothly, care was excellent, all antibiotics, creams and ointments included. Couldn't fault the whole process.
I had little bruising and swelling and honestly think I could have returned to work day 10. Brilliant outcome love this doctors work, think it has turned back the clock 10 years at least. Suture lines barely visible now. I am super impressed.
The $9000 USD I spent included all accommodation flights etc for 2 weeks away.
I am not going to post photos online as I want to remain anonymous but happy to share experience via private message.
