You're reading this, so you know how it feels to...

You're reading this, so you know how it feels to loose "your precious" hair :( I was about 24 that started to notice hair loss. When I was 28, I finally started to use 5% minoxidil solution twice daily for about a year. It helped me maintain the remaining hair specially at the vertex area. However, the proceeding hairline did not stop, although I guess its process was slightly decelerated. When I was 29, I went through a series of stressful events and my hair loss became more or less obvious. I had to spent a lot of time in front of the mirror to cover my bald spots. Yet I could see it fail every time that I was photographed. So I decided it was time to get a hair transplant!
I live in Europe where I couldn't afford to do this procedure. So I started to google. Initially, I found Turkey a convenient, established and worthy place to do my hair-transplant. However, after contacting a few surgeons, I was disappointed as hell! They were rude, not listening and just after my money. So, I began to look elsewhere. Iran was where I ended up this time! I should say that I'm originally Iranian, so it I knew all the hassle about Iran's safety in the western media is just not true. So that was not my concern. What bothered me was the lack of professional clinics with honest before/after photos or reviews. I was about to give it up that I came across an Instagram page of a hair restoration clinic in Tehran: Dr. Mohsen Piroozhashemi. The page was surprisingly rich in number of photos, interviews with the surgeon and even videos of him doing the surgery. A good feature of Instagram is that people could post comments and their opinion. I went through as many comments as I could and all I could see was satisfaction! I was also surprised by the density of the transplanted hair of other patients. So I contacted them, they responded very professionally, evaluated my case after I sent them some photos, got a response from the doctor and went ahead and booked a time with them. It was very smooth. They contacted me a couple of times before the surgery to remind me of some pre-operation stuff like massaging the donor area on a daily basis and not to shave a few days before the surgery.
Traveling to Iran is not a big deal for me as a citizen. But it might be a big question mark for other nationalities. As far as the visa is concerned, they have recently passed a new law for many nationalities (except citizens of USA, UK, Canada, Colombia, Somalia, Bangladesh, Jordan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India) to get their 30-day visa on arrival at airport. Iran is also a safe country, full of opportunities and events to enjoy and really hospitable people. The clinic is located in a very good hospital. It's actually both a hotel and hospital at the same time, and I guess the clinic can help you book a room, cab etc.
Now let's cut to the chase! I went to the clinic on Saturday, one day before the operation. They had booked me a time with Dr. Piroozhashemi. I could see his certificates from the USA and other countries on hair transplantation. After I filled a few forms about my general health, another doctor took some microscopic photos of my donor area. Next I met dr. Piroozhashemi. He was very friendly, and welcoming. He talked to me about my hair loss status, other members of my family suffering hairloss and described the procedure. He recommended two consecutive operations on two days: the 1st day FUT from back of the scalp and the 2nd day FUE from my beard! I was convinced that it's the right plan after I asked a few questions and he answered them all. I was then sent to the laboratory of the hospital to take my blood sample and some other tests. I was told to be there the next day at 8:00 and so did I! They took me to the operation room which looked very modern, clean and full of staff. They were all very friendly. I got my locker, changed my clothes, were taken to a room where they took many photos and then were guided to the operation room by the doctor himself. The operation room had at least 12 staff. Their clothing were color coded so I could spot three more doctors and a lot of nurses. It was very smooth, no serious pain at all and clearly explained. After the doctor cut the strip, they shaved the top of my head, and the doctor drew the hairline. He had told me that he would like to also transplant hair to my temple area which was really important to me as well. He showed it to me in the mirror and since I was happy with it they proceeded. Another doctor injected some of my PRP into the shaved area. She said it will boost the growth of transplanted hair as far as I remember. Next dr. Piroozhashemi punched the holes in my skin. He explained as he was doing it that his aim was to achieve maximum density and a normal looking hairline. Next, the extracted hair follicles were transplanted by two of his assistants. They were also very friendly and caring. I was given a few breaks and the procedure was finished at around 17:00. Photos were taken and I was sent home until the next day at 8:00 again. I was told not to touch my hair and to sleep in a seating position. I had to spray my hair every half an hour which was the tough part. I had no pain at all, and I could sleep pretty good as I was really tired.
The general events were very similar the next day except the fact that the doctor decided to take 500 FUE grafts from the back of my head in addition to those taken from my beard. I should mention that he did this beyond what he had discussed with me on the first day just to achieve better results. I could guess that many surgeons wouldn't have done that and instead would have suggested to do another surgery in a year or so. However, he did this completely free and despite the fact that I could hear some nagging from some personnel cause of the more workload! I appreciate it Doctor. He also supervised the operation a couple of times during the day.
I was sent home with similar instructions, were asked to show up the next day for follow-up. The follow-up was also great where a nurse showed me how to shampoo my hair. I had to go back one more time on the next day for a final check up. At this point I experienced some swelling in my forehead which was painless and disappeared after few days. I was told not to touch the hair nor wear a hat. The last check up went also very smooth. they washed my hair one more time and the doctor told me that he is happy with the outcome. I was given some instructions until day 14 and for the next six months. The only thing left was to remove the stitches. They told me that I could go back there on day 14 to do that or it can be done any other clinic around the world. I went back there on day 12 just before my departure, and they removed the stitches, the doctor did another checkup and I was good to go! It's now day 19 and everything looks much better. My scalp is still full of hair and I feel super good every time I look in the mirror. The scar on the back of my head is healing fast and there is no scar or sign of surgery on my neck. So far I'm really happy with the whole thing and looking forward to the future. I will post some photos in the coming days.

Doktor Piroozhashemi and his team were very professional, responsible, and caring. Their facilities are state-of-the-art and their service is excellent. His team is qualified and adequate in number. He is one of the few who believes in the art of hair transplantation rather than a purely scientific operation. Thus, expect nothing but a normal looking and full head of hair when you go to him.
