Saline Removal for Eyebrow Tattoos
Wanted to share my experience of having saline removal for botched eyebrow tattoos, since there's not a ton of info available. In essence, yes they can be lightened/removed, but you'll have to be very patent because this takes multiple procedures.
My brows were done unevenly, two different shapes, and 2-3mm higher than my usual design. This was done by a brow tech at a high end salon. She had done good work on me in the past, but I think this time she was trying out a new ink (she didn't mention this...) And she must have been having a bad day because she goofed nearly every aspect of the shape and placement. They healed to a lavender-gray, the color of a mushroom, completely unflattering and super aging. I knew right away I had to have them undone.
The good things about my botched eyebrows were that they were done with Li pigment, and the ink wasn't overly deep, so Vjera the amazing tech in WPB thought she could get a decent result with a few sessions.
The procedure is very similar to having the brows tattooed. First your brows are numbed with a cream, then the tech goes over them with a saline solution (Li-Ft in my case) using a tattoo pen. She does about 3 passes and then floats salt solution on top. This part stings. Some of the pigment comes out during the session, and some of it lifts up and falls off with the scab.
Leaving the salon, I looked a little weird because my eyebrows were swollen and red from blood. But they were not as bizarre as I expected. The first 24 are rough, pain-wise. I had a headache and my eyebrows stung. But one day later, the swelling disappeared and scabs formed. Basically each brow is a complete scab. If you don't look too close, it actually looks ok at this stage because the scab color is surprisingly flattering. You have to keep the scab dry at all times and not disturb it. In about 11 days the scabs peel. In my case, they peel unevenly and this is where you might want to stay indoors because it can look patchy. But stick with it, this process is totally worth it. The longer the scab stays on, the more ink it can draw out.
Eventually the scabs fall off (in my case a lot of hair came out also - don't worry, it will grow back) and the area underneath will be a lot lighter. It will also be somewhat pink. You have to apply vitamin e oil twice a day, which I dislike because it's sticky... but just do it. It helps your skin to heal. The pinkness gradually goes away over a few months, and the tattooed area will continue to fade for several months. You can cover the pinkness with makeup or brow pencil if you like.
I had great results with my first treatment. I'm currently scabbed from my second treatment, but I can tell they are going to be very light to barely there when this is healed.
It was hard to find a brow tech who was experienced with this procedure. Vjera is excellent, very caring and gentle, knows her stuff and gets good results.
