This is a long review, so I apologize - but I wanted to share my experience in detail, as I had a hard time finding any reviews on successful procedures to treat dark spots on the legs. So I hope this helps someone else out there make a decision!
My spots were mainly PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation,) a few small shallow scars from picking at clogged hair follicles (KP), and some sun spots on the legs.
These spots came on suddenly for me within 1 year, I believe due to my crazy fluctuating horomones (went off the pill) along with simultaneous over-tanning, and picking.
I forgot to take true "before" pics, but you can see some of the spots in the first pics. They were very dark and very noticeable to me, especially at the end of last summer when I was really tan.
I have now had two sessions of ResurFx on my outer thighs. First session was 4/3, second session around 5/17.
It was more painful than expected... they do numbing cream 30 min before and that helps a lot, and they do make it more comfortable with a cold fan of some kind during the procedure. But I'm not going to lie, after about 5 minutes it starts to feel like someone's drilling hot needles deep into your skin.
My pain COULD have been worse just based on the area (some areas didn't hurt at all) and I do have a low tolerance for pain. I have had IPL on my full bikini area before, which can be quite painful too unless numbed but in a rubber band snapping kinda way. This is a different, more "penetrating/searing" kind of pain. But anyway- still overall tolerable, didn't have any issues getting through the procedure and results were well worth any pain.
Following the procedure I was very hot for several hours, and felt like my legs had been stung by 200 wasps. They were very sensitive to touch, but only until the next day. I didn't have to modify my lifestyle at all other than no sunbathing for 2 weeks before/after. No pain medication is needed.
There was a decent amount of swelling and redness for about a week, and teeny tiny red dots everywhere in a pattern. Followed by a bunch of tiny bumps. All of which went away completely after 1-2 weeks.
I am extremely happy with the outcome so far. I was unsure at first, because for me the results took several weeks to see an improvement. I was told there would be some changes visible in the short term, but results would be ongoing as the skin continues to repair itself from underneath for almost 6 months, I think. And so far I'm a believer, bc the more time that passes, the better I think it looks.
The doc had recommended 3 total sessions for best results, and I was quoted $500 a session which I thought was very fair considering the size of treatment area, that included the upper/outer thighs on both legs. I believe the place I went to usually also includes free IPL along with the ResurFx per their website/price sheet, but I don't think they did any IPL to me. This could be because the Dr wanted to be gentle on my skin? I'm not sure, this was the only question I was left with since it was one of the reasons I chose them. (I had read online doing combo laser treatments in each session can help PIH a lot.)
But I didn't want to "complain" by any means as the doctor took a lot of time on me and went over the areas several times, so I was happy.
I would love to get the 3rd session, but for now money is tight so I will hold off until after summer is over (and bc I'm very happy with the current results anyway.)
I have included pics from right after both sessions, some of the pics were a week or two post session, and the last pics posted were from 6/23 (today.)

Update

Results continue to get better. I see basically none of the dark spots that were on my legs, and the three round scars on my left leg have continued to shrink to the point where they are barely visible now. Still very happy with results and glad I did it. Will post an updated picture or two soon.

Great review with good photos! How are your results now? Are you going for full clearance? Were all your spots PIH? And were they dermal or epidermal? I have a dermal PIH under my eye, but I'm too scared to do laser treatment. I haven't seen any convincing photo of it being completely removed.

Thank you! Results are still great! I still have bad habits like tanning, but thankfully (knock on wood) it hasn’t caused any new spots there. And I try my darndest never to pick in that area either, since I invested $$ in it! I didn’t go back for a third session yet because I have been happy as is- there was definitely full clearance of the majority of spots. The small round scars I had shrunk so small I can hardly find them if I try, so that’s good enough for me right now. I had a variety of different types of spots - def PIH like I get anytime I’ve ever picked something on my skin, and some just from sun I believe. I’m not sure if they were dermal or epidermal, sorry! I was probably told and forgot. None of them had a texture if that helps, except perhaps a few of the round/ shallow scars from picking (that also had PIH around them.) worked really well on everything that got “zapped.” The scars that had a texture shrunk so small I can barely find them when I try.
Have you tried a chemical peel at all on the spot on your face? (And I don’t mean the ones where your face looks like a burn victim for 2 weeks lol ;)) If all you have is that one spot, I’ve heard chemical peels really can do a lot of the same things lasers can but it just takes longer I think.
I did two jessner peels a year or two ago for brown spots on my face and it worked well, was inexpensive and very mild- I never actually peeled, no “down time,” etc, but after the 2nd one my brown spots were gone. Since that has been 2 summers ago I have a few more little brown spots now on my face, so I recently bought an at-home glycolic peel to try. I also use smashbox B.B. cream concealer whigh has spf 35 and it covers the spots really well/blends well (and I’m not a “foundation” person.) I swear that stuff also has helped fade any brown spots I use it on over time (perhaps it’s just bc of the sunscreen being concentrated to those areas not allowing the spots to get any darker??) anyway good luck!!
