I've considered Dr Thomas Su for calf/ankle reduction. With also considering thighs/knees, as well. His photo gallery & videos show great results. However, he's not a board certified surgeon. Has anyone went to him or another dr, for calf reduction, that wasn't cerified & happy with their results? Thanks!

Good luck with your research!
my doctor said board certified is everything, and that being said i have terrible ankles and calfs..he said that the surgery is PRETTY successful not entirely and most women have to wear medical grade support stockings for 3-6 months...some never get over the edema it causes and have to wear support stockings forever...no thanks...so I am thinking about cold sculpting to make improvements that I can stand without the side effects ...the results will not be nearly as dramatic tho
Hi! What did you decide to do? I'm dealing with the same decision right now.
I went with Dr Kerr in Boise, ID. The size of calves were not reduced much. One leg is more shapely than the other. A new dr that was joining Dr Kerr did one leg and Dr Kerr did the other. It's a noticeable difference to me. However, my husband says he can't see a difference. :) My legs are thinner. I feel better now. I would say there are several lumpy and uneven areas. Again, I'm happier now than how I looked before. One thing that bothers me is how many scars I have. I probably have over 20 incision marks that are still noticeable a year later. I still think it was worth it. I may look into having a touch up done to even out my calves and my left knee. Good luck!!!
Thanks for your reply! I'm feeling so conflicted on who to go with!
It's so hard!! like I said, even though my procedure wasn't perfect, I'm still happier than before I had it done!
FYI, to SRB2012. If you watched Dr. Su's videos he said he knows Dr. Kerr and he is a very good friend of his. He said he is excellent at lipo.
jbags7-did you email photos to Dr. Su? please don't let the distance stop you from considering him. I live 2 hours away and still stay in a hotel within a few miles from the Tampa airport because he must see you the day after your procedure and I don't want to drive back and forth. he will draw on your photos and email them back! you wont believe your eyes! I had my third procedure with him on Monday 4/10. His work is absolutely amazing-I hope you have seen his cankle videos on youtube!
During my procedure, Dr Kerr was talking about Dr Su. Said he considered him as someone to bring into his practice.
SRB-i am very confused after reading your comments about your procedure?-are you still promoting Dr. Kerr or advising jbags NOT to go to Dr. Kerr? Dr. Su does 3-5 liposuction procedures every day of the week-I could be wrong-but it doesn't seem to me that he would need to join ANYONE'S practice? Is Dr. Kerr aware of your "lumps or bumps"? Does he charge for touch ups?
I was only agreeing with you that dr Kerr & dr us know each other
i just wasn't sure if you were happy or not with your results? i have not had my cankles done yet by Dr. Su-it is going to be my last procedure because of the swelling. Dr. Su has done my knees, saddlebags and i just had my hips/waist on Monday the 10th. i can not express enough the pride Dr. Su has in his work!!! That is why i was asking you about touch ups-on my initial consult with Dr. Su, he showed me how different my right knee was from my left-(i never noticed that my whole life and that was the very first thing he saw) During my procedure he left a small amount of fat on my right knee and stood me in front of the mirror and asked me if i wanted it removed?-i said no-because it did make a better match with my left knee-lol At a follow up visit-HE did not like the outcome and scheduled me for a touch up and did both knees again. They are now perfect and trust me i had "inches" of fat on my inner knees! For me they were pretty close to perfect before the touch up, but that one little half a teaspoon made a tremendous difference. dr. su did my saddlebags in july and i had a very teeny fat bulge in an area because of cellulite-he also touched that up for me on Monday and it is gone! Don't live with lumps or bumps-tell your doctor!
i truly hope that did not sound argumentative? i am on your side and after all that money/pain and suffering-you should be happy with your results. this entire post started with a member trying to decide on a doctor for cankles-and after reading all of the posts-i just realized you were considering dr. su-did you contact him prior to deciding to go with dr. kerr? how long was your procedure? i cant imagine the pain you were in with all of those areas at the same time? how long was your surgery? dr. su has already advised me that my cankle procedure will be 4-5 hours. i accidentally met one of his cankle patients in the waiting room-she was there for a follow up for a celebrity arm procedure. we starting chatting-her arms were amazing and when she showed me her ANKLES that dr. su had performed for her CANKLES...i almost cried! i showed her mine and she insisted she once had worse than me. Dr. Su WILL sculpt your area beyond your expectations! i tell him "he is not God, but far greater than Mother Nature"-LOL
I called the office but I never sent in photos. Dr Su's work definitely looks amazing but I would be flying 5+ hours after a lower extremity surgery, which i just didnt feel was safe. Plus with the areas I want treated I would probably have to go back a couple of times and with three toddlers at home I don't have the time and flexibility. I decided to go with someone local. I hope I made the right decision! If I was any closer it would have been a no brainer.
I chose Dr Kerr since there were a few people who went to him & had reviews on here that loved their results. I probably wouldnt suggest him after my experience. My husband went with me, so I don't know if that made a difference. We were told we had to stay an extra day for the dr to do a follow up. He never came to the hotel. So we stayed for no reason. I think he will do a follow up procedure but it's still a fee. He told me prior to the procedure it would never be perfect. I just think I have a lot of unevenness due to two Doctors. One on one leg & another on the other. It was disappointing since I had to fly half away across the country to see him & find out after I'm ready for the procedure that another dr would be doing part of the surgery.
I didn't realize you flew to Dr. Kerr, I guess I just assumed you chose him because he was local. So he never saw you for a follow up the next day??!
No. My husband received a phone call & texts with any questions we had & the day we were at the airport to fly out. That's the only communication we received after the surgery was completed. I was disappointed with that.
I am nobody to judge since all 3 of my procedures were done with dr. su , so I truly have no idea what the protocol for other doctors would be. But...I must say-for me-the first 24 hours of each one were the most terrifying for me. especially this one last week. I had a tremendous amount of drainage and I was close to calling dr. su's cell phone at midnight. the drainage can be alarming but also very necessary. they pump a lot of fluid in your tissue and ironically this procedure they did not open any incisions for draining the next day. dr su requires/insists on a follow up visit the day after procedure. ill try to explain. if you have 6 incision/entry points, the nurse closes and seals 5. the 6th/lowest incision is left open to drain so fluid is not trapped under the skin and seems to end within 24 hours. with my first procedure in july-dr su had the nurse open up additional areas because of fluid and to me this was crucial! you must have been so scared?!! not knowing if it looked like it was supposed to? I cant imagine. it is frightening and even tonight one week from hip/waist procedure after my 3rd shower of the day-lol I just stare in the mirror and can almost cry looking at my bruised/swollen little body. it looks like I got hit by a truck and ran over by the car behind the truck!-LOL
SRB-Im not trying to stir you up but-have you considered contacting dr. kerr about your disappointment? does he definitely charge a fee for a touch up? perhaps he could make an exception in your case since you paid for his services and had another doctor assisting which could truly add to the differences in your results. do you remember which leg the other doctor assisted on? if so is that the one you are unhappy with? after sharing comments with you-I researched dr. kerr and his before and afters look great! was he training the other doctor you had in your procedure?
My surgery was split between two days. So after my lower legs were done, I went back for my upper legs. So I had a follow up then, but not after my second procedure. No I haven't contacted them yet. I was hoping that maybe one leg was taking longer for the swelling to go down. No such luck. The cost to fly back plus hotel & the cost for touch ups are not in our family budget right now. So I haven't contacted them. Like I said I feel better than I did before but I have lots of tiny scars plus unevenness & lumpy areas. After talking with you. I'm going to take pictures & contact them to at least see what I can find out. If anything I can try to save up to go back! Oh & yes, I do know which leg each dr worked on. And yes it was the first time that dr did that procedure & was being trained. Im disappointed for how much money the surgery was plus hotel, flight, & food was to not know about it prior to the moment we are starting the procedure! Thanks for all your help talking about everything!
i am so relieved reading this!--I actually laid in bed last night wondering if I upset you. people on here write very little about the emotional roller coaster that comes along with the procedures. especially as a mom! the guilt is overwhelming sometimes and have spent many nights crying that I spent money on a shallow self esteem issue. I hope you do get some resolution-you DO deserve it! I know that doctors do not promise perfection but in your case, allowing a new assistant to work on you is major!!! I wish I could help! I truly hope you contact dr. kerr and if he has the audacity to charge you for a touch up-I would be shocked! please keep me posted!
hi SRB! i need your help/input! I am day 11 on my hip/waist procedure and look like a swollen water buffalo!-lol the pain is bearable but my feet/ankles are very swollen-I seriously don't know if I could go through cankle procedure? so I need your help!
1-did you have swelling in your feet and ankles BEFORE surgery?
2-does your calf/feet/ankles swell now after surgery?
3-was the cankles the most painful and swollen after?
4-was your cankle area really that large before your procedure?
any help you can offer- i would appreciate-i thought i was a pro at this but i am seriously questioning scheduling my cankle procedure? Dr. Su is dead on with his post-op instructions and he warns of the 2 week mark being the height of the swelling-but i am really wishing i got the cankles over with long ago-it is my absolute worst feature and i have suffered with cankles my entire life. i was 104lbs for my wedding 20years ago and had a beautiful skin tight mermaid gown-i seriously made my video photographer edit/remove the entire garter belt part of the ceremony because of my cankles! i did not even want the guest to see my knees or cankles but i had to lift my dress to get the garter off and i just wanted to crawl under the chair. so sad! Dr. Su sketched out my new knees and cankles on my photo-i know it will change my life-my knees are long gone-even better than his drawing-but my cankles are just screaming out more now!-lol i live in florida-never wear shorts-cant wear cute shoes that highlight my cankles
was this something you lived with?
thanks so much for any input!

If you want to private message me your email, I will send you my journal/notes I wrote folollowing my surgery. I'll try & have my husband take pics this weekend. Then I can show you my before, midway, & just over one year later.
thank you so much!-i am in so much pain-cant imagine this in my calfs-my housework is piling up but at least i can walk-just imagining myself bedridden with a cankle procedure.
what doctor did you end up choosing? how much is the procedure for calf/ankles?
^^^ that message about doctor choice was for jbags?
I chose Dr Stile in Las Vegas. I am getting really nervous of the recovery. I am getting lipo in my stomach, flanks, inner & outer thighs, calves/ankles. Any recovery advice i would greatly appreciate! I know everyone is different, but were either of you able to go up and down stairs right away. What day were you able to get around by yourself and any recommendations for the draining from the calves? I have a lot of help but I also have three 2 year olds so I'm starting to stress out!
Good for you!!!--I just figured out who you were! are you getting all of these areas on the same day?
I went to Dr. Peter Fisher in San Antonio for this same procedure and got terrific results! He is board certified and specializes in this procedure.
I've also done my research on him as I'd like to consider getting calf/ankle work by him as well. I grant his website doesn't seem to show his certification, but I like to good to look at outside resources. And in fact, he's got pretty solid medical training (and degree). So I hope that answers some of yr concerns. Good luck! -From a fellow seeker of slimmer calves...
