When I went to my consultation about a month ago...

When I went to my consultation about a month ago with Dr. Diaco, I was more in the "question/answer" phase than "let's do this". So, to my surprise, when I walked out of his office, I had my appointment schedule and my down payment done. I tend to be very conservative and indecisive when it comes to these big decision-making things- especially when it will affect me in such a big way.

Throughout this month, however, I've been reading reviews/looking at picture/watching recovery vlogs and I think I'm overanalyzing everything now. I'm STILL not 100% on the size & not certain on the incision area. My doc is recommending auxiliary (under arm) because he's very accustom to doing it that way, but am noticing more and more doc's & patients going for under the breast fold.

Let me know if you have any pointers pre-op & post-op. Would love to hear from this awesome community!

If you tend to be conservative and indecisive, you must have felt pretty confident the day of your consult. It's normal to be nervous and second guess yourself. You can always get another doctor consult while you're waiting for your surgery day if that would help you feel better. Here is a helpful list of recovery items you may want to have on hand. Also, you might want to join the September 2015 breast augmentation surgery forum to find a surgery buddy!

It sounds like you have done your research, which is always a great first step. I would agree that most surgeons prefer the inframammary incision for breast augmentation (under the breast), which is also the way we perform the majority of our augmentations. While you can place implants transaxillary (under the arm), periareolar (around the nipple), or inframammary (at the lower breast fold), we prefer the inframammary incision for several reasons. The transaxillary incision does not allow for optimal hiding of the scar. The incision fades over time, but will always be seen when in a tank top while the arms are raised, as well as in swimsuits. The periareolar incision is easy to hide, but has been noted to have a higher rate of capsular contracture (hardening and tightening of the scar tissue surrounding the implant) due to higher bacteria count around the nipple. Our preferred method, the inframammary incision, is not only very easy to hide, but also does not have the contamination potential seen around the nipple. If a patient requests a specific incision, we of course are open to proceeding with their wishes if they are a candidate. However, inframammary incisions are preferred due to easy hiding of the scar and decreased risk of bacterial contamination.

Well Women's Exam turned into getting a Mammogram

My pre-op appt. is just in 6 days away and my surgery appt. is 8 days away! Needless to say, this whole BA stuff has been on my mind. So, today, at my well women's yearly visit, I mentioned to my OB that I will be undergoing the knife and if I should I get a mammogram? She actually recommended it just on the safe side, as I have a loose history of breast cancer in my family. (Aunt on Dad's and Grandmother on Mom's).

Shortly after the appt., I went downstairs where the Imaging Center was and they got me right in. I know I'm over-reacting and know I'm pretty free and clear of having breast cancer, but thought it'd be wise to have a "Before" and "After" of a mammogram, too. It really didn't hurt AT ALL. The squashed boobs stories are most likely from years ago, technology certainly has come a LONG way.

In the end, my mammogram images will be sent to the OB and my plastic surgeon for their records.

Will keep you all updated as I'll be incredibly anxious for the next week!!

You are smart to have this done, as you said so they have a before and after. Be sure of your family history I just learned on my moms side I had 3 greAt aunts with Breast cancer my moms sister now my mom. I have had silicon implants for a long time and not much breast tissue, so yes it really hurt when I had a mammogram recently. So no I don't think those stories of squashed boobs are from THAT long ago.

Thank you! I didn't really think about getting one until I went to my office visit, so thought I'd ask!

The tech did say the implant mammograms tend to be longer since they take more pictures with the implant in. Haven't experience that one, but I'm sure since there is more area to squash, I can imagine it could hurt more than without!

So far so good with prep. We decided I will go under the arm after all and he re-measured me to give me a final range. He'll decide what cc's will fit best. He's ranging from a 375-450. Hoping to be somewhere in the middle.

Got my scripts and will be picking them up after getting my bloodwork at the outpatient center. I also picked up some goodies yesterday for recovery. Will be grabbing some crackers and bendy straws for water.

Will update on my surgery day- Thursday!!!
