25 Year Olds Hair Transplant (FUE Neograft) - Tampa, FL

ORIGINAL POST

This was my second transplant, my first transplant...

This was my second transplant, my first transplant was FUT method and they were able to harvest 2400 grafts. I was fairly satisfied by that procedure.
4 years later I wanted to thicken up the initial transplanted location by adding 1000 grafts to it using FUE procedure. I went to the Bassin Center(tampahairmd) in Tampa and consulted with their staff. My main concern was that I do not want to lose my existing transplanted hair due to shock loss, and I made that very clear to them. They constantly reassured me that they use very thin needles and there is no chance of shock loss.
Convinced, I went into the procedue and they shaved my head and I was surprised to find out that the Doctor wont be doing the surgery, but his technicians( a middle aged lady with South American accent and a very young intern looking guy) will be performing the surgery. The doc inject me with anesthesia and leaves the room and the lady start harvesting the hair on the back of my head using Neograft machine. about an hour later she finishes harvesting all the required grafts and we move on to the second phase. The doctor comes back to check in on me and inject me with anesthesia and he punches a thousand holes on the transplant location and leaves the room again. The lady and the yound guy come back and start putting the grafts into the holes(one side each) and after 400 holes or so the lady says that she cannot see the holes the doctor made and she starts poking new holes to put the grafts in.. (It was a bloody mess!) I was bleeding like crazy and couple hours later the nightmare was over. After the procedure I was filled with hope of new hair and was give a steroid shot and went home. Here comes the crazy part.. I start shedding like crazy and withing 3 weeks most of the existing hair at the transplanted area is gone. My face remained swollen for about 5 days and since it was my second procedure I was able to pull through.
Its been six months now and my previous hair lost due to shock loss did not come back and I am left with 3 pencil sized bald spots in the front of my head and the transplanted hair grafts didnt come out that impressive. I went to visit the doctor and he hardly spoke to me for a minute and left the room again and the lady who operated on me looked at the shock loss and advised me that it is never a good idea to transplant in between existing hair because there wont be enough space to insert the hair... THAT WAS MY FIRST QUESTION TO THESE GUYS!!!
To summarize this experience I paid 5000$ for a hair removal procedure on my scalp! Go to this clinic if you want better hair removal results than Laser hair removal! Please! Please do not go to this clinic if you are expecting good results..

Sorry to hear this. I am from the Tampa area and after tons of research I went to consultations with TampaHairMD, Bassin (30 mins), Tempest, Dr Barusco (90 mins) and Dr. Brett Hirsch (30 mins) in Sarasota before decided who to get the transplant with. TampaHairMD advertises like crazy but when I went in for the consult I was not convinced they were right for me, they just didn't feel right. I met with a salesman, (same guy all over youtube for the company) when I expected to meet with a Doctor - that was a red flag that turned me off. (Neograft, 2500 grafts, 11.5k)
Then I went to Tempest, they have a swanky office in front of International mall so I figured they would be pricey. At Tempest I met with an aggressive but nice female sales person and we skyped with Dr. Barusco out of Port Orange. This was a very long consult with lots of detail and it felt pretty good, I believe the Dr had good intentions etc. but I didn't like having to drive to the other coast to get surgery and the price was a little high for a strip method procedure 2000-2500 grafts (9k-11k) so I passed on Dr. Barusco.

In the end I went with Dr. Brett Hirsch. We did Neograft, staff was very nice and professional. He was less expensive than the other two probably due to the fact that he didn't have the hefty advertising budget. I was also advised that the whole concept of "paying per graft" is just creative marketing. I was told they would do the best Neograft that could be done with my hair loss condition (which was pretty bad). I ended up getting Neograft, 1500-2000 grafts, Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment for faster healing for 7k. Similar to your experience There were two surgery techs and of course Dr. Hirsch. The Dr. administered the anesthesia and made the incisions for the grafts. The grafts were harvested and transplanted by the techs. Harvesting took 3 hours, I was trying to count the grafts but lost count after about 300. Implanting the grafts took a good 2+ hours, It felt like it would never end.

All in all it was a good experience with Dr. Hirsch and his staff and I would recommend him and return to him for further procedures.

Two things to note:
When they say "no scar" - That's just false. Any cut will leave a scar.
That "idea" that you will be fine to go to work the next day - That's a joke!
Think about it, you just had a majorly invasive surgery and have 3000-4000 fresh holes in your head. You aren't going anywhere but the sofa. Also expect headaches everyday for 3 weeks to a month. Follow the Doctor's instructions, any sign of infection call the doc immediately.

209Biz, I'm looking at getting the Neograft procedure from Dr. Hirsch. Overall, would you recommend the procedure? How are the results a year out? Were you pleased overall? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.
