I am having Gynecomastia surgery, along with liposuction on my abs and flanks, in two days. I am both excited and nervous. I am excited because I have wanted to have Gynecomastia surgery since I was 16, since before I knew that surgery was even possible. My Gynecomastia appeared when I was 15 years old. At the time I was a little heavy. Like the majority of you that developed your "moobs" during puberty, I knew very little and thought that if I lost weight it would cure my "moobs". I began running, lifting, cycling, roller blading, snow boarding, hip hop aerobics, ANYTHING to stay fit!!! Looking back, being fit certainly helped the appearance and size of my breasts. However, even at my thinnest and fittest I still felt severely embarrassed by my chest. I stayed very active through college and into my mid 20's. The last couple years I put on a good amount of weight. This last year I have worked to lose some. A couple months back, after starting my weight loss journey, I decided that I did not want to spend another summer not living my life. Every year since my teens I have done everything to avoid summer all together, anything to avoid having to remove my shirt in public.

It was only about 5 weeks ago that I decided that it was time for me to get this done. I researched local plastic surgeons for about two days. After deciding on a handful I had 4 consults. I am very greatful that I had multipal consults. It made choosing my surgeon easier than I could have imagined. Two of the consults told me that my condition would only require liposuction. After reading what felt like 1000 testimonials, the common theme amongst the dissapointed men were ones that had liposuction, with no incision to remove the breast tissue, had unsatisfactory results because the "moobs" remained. The other two consults I had told me lipo and incision would be required to gain the results I desired. it was clear I would go with one of the later two. The reason I chose my surgeon was because he explained that the liposuction to my lower abdomen, though would be a dramatic improvement that I was looking for, could also produce a bit of loosened skin due to my size. He was the only one of the four consults that clearly pointed out my realistic results. The other three pretty much said I would gain "perfect" results. I appreciated that my surgeon was so honest. Earlier I explained why I was excited for surgery but not why I was nervous. I am nervous about the result. The Internet seems to be litter with success stories or the horror stories, not the "average" stories. And right now the horror stories have me worried that I will come out of surgery looking like a wrinkled, deflated, ballon!

Hey Archie, I'm planning to have the same procedure with gland excision and lipo of the chest, stomach and flanks. I've had lipo on my chest before which unfortunately didn't resolve my gynaecomastia so i know what to expect pain wise but i just wondered how painful the lipo on the stomach and flanks is and how long it took before you could go back to work. Thanks

Rick,

Congratulations on the surgery. For me, it was life changing. I took a week off work. However, by day three I was able to go in to the office. Really, outside of the first two days, which are uncomfortable and messy, it was easy.

Hope that helps!

My check in for surgery was at 6:45 am this morning. surgery began at 730am. I woke up in the recovery room at noon. Although, the nurse said surgery ended at 11am and was woken up and walked into the recovery room (have no memory of that). The nurse was very sweet and caring. She asked explained that she thinks I will be please with the results.

So far the paid has not been extreame. Although I have been taking 10 mg percs . The only annoying thing is the leakage!!!! I am leaking like crazy. I have my spot on the sofa covered with two towels, an old sheet, and a couple pads that the doctors provided. The packing and pads that was placed after surgery feel soaked. I can shower tomorrow and change my pads... That will likely make me feel better, plus give me a sneak peek.

Dr Poryondy call this evening to follow up on how I was feeling, I though that was a nice touch.

So far so good.

I will post my before pictures shortly (no fun without the after pics )

Cheers an happy healing !!!!!

It has not been as bad as I thought. The pain meds have been doing the trick. The most relief I felt was from changing my bandages and rinsing off in the shower. My Ps said it was ok to shower with the shower head facing away from me. The leakage from surgery was really bad and it felt very freeing to be able to change the bandages.
I am ecstatic with my results so far. When I took my binders off and saw my new chest I couldn't help but smile! The incision spot looks rough still! But the contour, though very swollen, looks great!
I have posted some before and after pictures.

Were you instructed to wear a compression garment? I only ask because my PS put foam on after the procedure that I wore for the first first few days.

Yes, I have two compression pieces I am wearing. I am wearing a binder for my abdomen and flanks and a zip up compression garment for my chest. I only took it off to shower. My Ps said two weeks and I'll move to a normal sports-like compression shirt.

I had the same procedures and also wore the two binders. I'm about 8 weeks post op now.

How long did you wear the two binding pieces?
