I have a small hereditary double chin & big hereditary jowls, thanks Dad :-) and they have aged faster than the rest of me. I have gotten by into my mid 40s with microdermabrasion facials and the odd Venus or Dysport tx, so Lipo on my chin & jowls was a big step. I had a weird fat pocket in my chin that made my face uneven too. I am super active and didn't want lots of down time so I chose the Sono Bello in Tacoma after asking for the creds of all their docs. My doc was Brian McIntosh, a Bellevue reconstuction guy and I liked how he has put people back together after bad accidents and breast cancer, I figured he could handle my little fat pocket. The team there was terrific, and really helped me problem solve when my car died before my pre-op and when my ride canceled last minute. The procedure was gross but not daunting. I could definitely feel the Roto-rooter and suction but I had Xanax and oxy and a lot of tumescent fluid inside numbing me up. I slept the rest of the day and was up walking that evening, unfortunately returned to work that next day - I would recommend 3 days convalescence and I am nursing a cold 5 days post-op. My face is swollen up like a bowling ball (being religious about the compression garment and Arnica by mouth and topical) but I think I can see a difference.

How much bruising is there? I'm worried about a lot of bruising but you don't seem to have much. did you do the smart lipo or regular lipo? thanks!

Yes, I looked like a strangulation victim for a week and there is still a lot of swelling, which is just how I heal. Wearing the compression garment full time for the first several days is critical! It actually feels good too. I'm still wearing it at night and also when I exercise. I've seen botch jobs that might have been OK but for not wearing compression. I also slather myself with Arnica and take it orally, which probably helped the bruising... I did tri-sculpt lipo with the tumescent fluid (numbing) and laser. I think it's pretty standard for Sono Bello.

Did you have any issues with your actual neck swelling? And if so, how long before it went down? I'm one week post op and I have a golf ball size lump in my throat that just doesn't want to seem to go away. Fluid is shifting all over when I sleep, thanks to the chin strap (whcih doesn't strap on my throat at all?)..: just curious.

I have heard of this happening but It didn't happen to me. I had lumps for a couple months. I'd ask your doc about compression for the neck and about massaging the lumps. My chin is still swollen & hard after 4mo, especially after strenuous exercise & time at high altitudes. Definitely let your doc know if you have trouble swallowing! Much luck in your recovery!

Not looking bad! Bruising is almost gone, still swollen, went for my follow up and they were pleased with my healing. Caught a rotten cold - my advice is try to live as stress-free as possible around the time of the procedure and don't go back to work the next day.

Looking good! Be patient because the swelling can be present for months to some degree. The majority of swelling and bruising should be gone after two weeks, though.
