I am 71years of age and now my 32 year old implants especially the left one have become distorted. My surgeon says my left one is a baker 3 and my right one is baker 2. I am terrified but will go ahead. I'm not having them replaced, and he says it's probably a 2 hour operation, I am worried about the anaesthetic as I am a severe asthmatic. He seems like a good Doctor but indicated that because of the encapsulation it is a much bigger operation.i will let you all know what happened after my surgery on 27 August, this year, 2015.

I"m new to the forum and understand your fear because I am 56 and want to have mine removed due to health issues. I've been praying and researching this for a full year and am almost ready to commit once I find a doctor although I am fearful of surgery. Its funny that I had not one iota of fear in me when I was implanted, only excitement. My how we change as we age. I will keep you in prayer all day on August 27 so please do let us know how your surgery goes. All the best to you!

Thank you too, for your kind thoughts and yes, I will let you know the outcome whatever it may be. I never had a thought 32 years ago when I had them put in, so we do change. God bless you all.

Is it possible to have this done under local, or are you getting general anesthesia? Please keep us updated on your journey!

UPDATED FROM Amberc1
7 days post

At home 5 days, glad it's over, drains came out yesterday, BUT Doc says I still have to wear this rotten scratchy binder day and

I had a special Bra fitter over, and she put me into a wonder post operative bra, Heaven!!, anyway I wore it To Docs surgery when I got the drains out and nurse said to put the binder back on for the two weeks before I see Doc again. I tried and I can't cope so I have put my post surgical Bra back on. I will pop the binder on only to go back to the surgery in 2 weeks. I do t know whether I've done the right thing as I can't find the answers on the web.
I have a bit of pain on and off, but drain holes SEBEL to. E healing. If there is anyone there that could let me know, whether compression binder versus proper post op support bra, which is best.

I was 72 y/o when I had mine removed. I had had so many implant/explants that the end result looked like a bad mastectomy. Since you have had only one implant, your results will more than likely look much better. I tried a fat transfer but that didn't work. Thank you for sharing and God Bless..

Thank you for your reply and support. I am just so glad to have the old implants out, and will not even consider having any more surgery at all. I just have to get through this one now. Dr Flood after my last visit after returning home, at least the nurse , said all was ok so far after the drains came out, and although I had a lady come over especially to fit me with a fully post op. Support Bra, she said I have to wear a dry scratchy Binder, tried to do this but have gone back to the special bra. Anyway I have a lot of discomfort and pain in the breast area, and not sure if that's normal after 9 days, so the bra is at least a bit more comfortable.

Hello Amberc1, it can be more comfortable if you are wearing some compression pads between the medical bra and your skin because of the healing scars. I had an explant and a lift two months ago and I'm still wearing medical bra daytime and for one month sport bra at nighttime, with the pads to absorb any blood, fluids and fat... It takes a long time to get better... And the healing process takes more time than I expected... But it is so much better than before with my leaking mammoth implants!!!
Wishing you the best, take care and God bless you...

Thank you for your comment, it is much appreciated. I didn't bother with a lift as I felt with my health, it was too much, so I just had the explanation. This is the 11 day, and I now alternate the scratchy binder with my soft lovely post operative bra, and I am coping, but counting down till the 15th September, when I see my Doc! And hopefully I shall be able to ditch the binder all together, and just wear the post op bra night and day for the following 4 weeks. I didn't realise what a big thing this explant operation and the long recovery was, but hopefully the worst is over. Everyone on Real Self have been so supportive, and there is nothing g like this in Australia.
