Prepping for surgery. Tips and hints which helped me

Like a few people here, I kept my surgery a secret which was very difficult to hide from family and friends. Thankfully I have an amazing supportive partner who was able to take a few days off to look after me for the first 2 days. You really do need someone to look after you first 2 days because you’ll feel sick from the sedation and you need someone to drive you back to the clinic for the massages which is usually done day 2. Driving is very difficult and painful and you can’t take endone and drive it makes you drowsy! So for those thinking of doing it on your own I would not recommend it. You’ll need some TLC first few days! Hire a nurse if that’s even possible!

To prep for the surgery I bought cheap bedsheets and quilt cover and a waterproof mattress protector. When we took my sheets off there was a huge blood puddle we didn’t see on the mattress protector because my sheets were jet black!

Here’s a list of things I bought to prepare from my research and what I found very helpful:
- vitamin C, Bromelain (both for healing)
- arnica tablets (I also bought the cream but never used it. The tablets definitely reduced the bruising because I normally bruise a lot!)
- Metamucil tablets (you’ll be told to buy senna laxative in you medicine kit but I found a stool softener was also really needed to make it easier to go to the loo. The meds really block you up and your tummy muscles will have a difficult time pushing for the first week)
- Strataderm scar gel ( blue one for fresh wounds)
- bandaids
- She-Wee (this was awesome for me because it was too painful to sit on the toilet and it helps to prevent the pee from getting on your garment. Practice in the shower before surgery first!)
- extra pillows! I used 5 pillows in various positions to help get comfortable in bed eg sleeping with legs raised etc
- vomit bags for the car and home post sedation
- femfresh wipes
- lots of baby wipes
- I downloaded an app called “round health” to keep track of when to take my meds. It’s better to track or write the times of your medication because you will forget!
- lots of greens, pineapple, veggies for healing. Make sure it’s easy to prepare if you’re on your own. Smoothie ingredients because you might not really have an appetite first 2-3 days
- hydralyte tablets to hydrate and flavour my water so that I drank heaps
- old loose dark clothes to wear because you’ll leak everywhere
- a wireless bra because it was painful for me to use the wired ones.
- baby bedtime drynight mats because the clinic will provide you with one blue mat for the car. These were great because they stuck to the sheets
- baby shampoo and body wash so that it was gentle on my skin and didn’t sting the incisions too much
- gel ice packs to relieve some swollen areas like the pubic region. Also great if you feel nauseous first 1-2 days.

I hope that helps! Feel free to add other tips in the comments section I may use it for recovery!

This website has been such an enormous help in my research and support. Thank you to all those who have documented their experience in so much detail - it's been so helpful knowing EVERY little nitty gritty.

I am a 29 year old female who has struggled with being happy with the way my body looked my entire life and I finally made the decision to do Vaser Lipo to hopefully finally be happy with who I saw in the mirror and not having to be so picky to hide my shape.

I would love to hear from those who are going through the recovery but also those who went through their journeys many years ago!!
