I am quite petite but I had areas where fat accumulated that didn't want to budge so liposuction was something I was considering for years so I could get a smoother contour.

After many months of saving I finally decided to give my surgeons clinic a call and go in for a consultation. My first consult was with one of the nurses who was very knowledgable and friendly. I was just planning to get my inner thighs, outer thighs and love handles done but while I was having my consult I decided to ask about getting my lower stomach too which I decided to go ahead with. Two weeks later I had a consult with the surgeon and he went through in great detail about the procedure and answered all my questions although at the time I didn't really have that many since I had done a lot of research about the procedure. Straight after that I decided to book in for my surgery which was luckily available on a date that was really convenient for me.

Today the 9/10/15 was my procedure day and so far I feel great! I was set to arrive at the surgery clinic at 9.30 but I was a bit earlier as I didn't know what the traffic would be like. I was kindly greeted by the lovely receptionist who I gave my forms to and asked me to sit down and wait until they were ready to take me in. Not long after they called me in and I went through some paper work with one of their staff, got changed into a gown and hair cap, had pictures taken and got weighed. As there was another patient in surgery before me I had some time to relax in another one of their rooms and watch TV for about an hour until the surgeon came and got me. I was taken back to the office I had been in before and the surgeon ran through more paperwork with me, answered more of my questions, drew all the markings on me and took more photos. I went back into the room with the TV while they set up the theatre and after not long they took me in for surgery.

As soon as I reached the surgery room I had to put on surgical booties and was laid down on a bed where the nurse checked my blood pressure and the surgeon inserted a cannula into my hand. Some medicine was inserted into it which felt a bit funny going in and I could feel it affect my body but that feeling went away after about a minute. I was then moved into the next surgical room where I had to strip down into a cloth g-string and was laid onto the surgical table. My body was then covered in a warm antiseptic liquid but I got a bit cold as it dried since the room was kept quite cool and I didn't have any clothing on besides the g-string. The nurses then covered my upper body in cloths which warmed me up a bit and the surgeon came in. Anaesthesia was inserted into my cannula which also felt a bit funny going in but it wasn't that uncomfortable and the feeling didn't last long. The procedure then began which seemed to fly by but as I am quite small I didn't have too much fat to remove. Once the surgeon was complete the nurses wrapped me in large kind of bandages, helped me get my compression garment on and took out my cannula. I was then taken to a room to sit down and relax and one of the nurses then the surgeon came and ran through a few more things with me. I then waited for my mum and got driven home where I have been relaxing in bed watching Netflix since.

I had conscious sedation throughout the whole procedure but I was able to listen to my own music though my earphones and they kept a blind fold on me. This meant that I was able to move around when they needed me too to get the best positions and although there were a few times I felt a bit of pain, the majority of the time I could't feel anything.

It is now just about to hit night time and so far i'm feeling really good! I have taken some medication and I barely feel any pain and discomfort. Hopefully everything will continue to go amazingly but I will continue to provide updates :)

Hi there when you say you felt a bit of pain during the procedure what would you compare it to? Did your PS offer you a general or does he only do twilight sedation? My biggest fear is feeling pain during it.

The pain was kind of sharp and stung but it didn't last for long and it was nothing that I couldn't handle.

My surgeon only offered me conscious/twilight sedation which I feel is better as I could move around when asked enabling him to see the correct contours from different positions since fat will lay differently depending on how you are lying or standing.

You can fall in and out of consciousness with twilight sedation so it doesn't always mean you'll be awake and remember the whole thing. My procedure seemed to fly by so I think I did fall asleep during it but I was still able to quickly respond to the staff when they needed me to. I also I didn't get any hangover affects or feel out out of it after the procedure so conscious sedation was a pleasant experience for me.

Day 2

I woke up at 7.30 am to take pain killers but after that I was unable to get back to sleep after that so I just had breakfast then jumped in the shower which felt so nice. I didn't feel faint when taking off the compression garment and my leaking had stopped.

I felt good the whole day with barely any pain and discomfort but I decided it was best to rest in bed watching Netflix for the day just in case.

Day 3

I had a good night sleep, spent most of the day relaxing at home then at night I went out to dinner so it was nice to leave the house. I stopped taking Paracetamol and as directed I started taking Ibuprofen as it helps with both inflammation and pain relief. If I feel I need to I can still continue with Paracetamol but due to how little pain i've been in I doubt I will need to do that.

Tomorrow I am back to work so hopefully i'll have a nice restful sleep and stress free day.
