I'm writing this to reassure anyone who is nervous about Laser Eye surgery, as I was. Before my procedure, I read all the horror stories, became familiar with worst case scenarios, and then took the plunge.
I'm 45 and have worn either glasses or contacts since I was 10. Now I'm getting older, I'm becoming long sighted too, and the idea of wearing reading glasses over contacts, or the expense of bi-focal contacts, or doing the ultimate old-dude thing and getting bi-focal specs were all out of the question. I decided to fix the myopia once and for all, and get simple reading glasses when the time for that arrives.
I understand that SMILE is not yet available in the US. It should be. It is far less intrusive than Lasik. The surgeon uses the laser to create a lenticule inside the cornea, then cuts a tiny slit in the cornea and pulls the lenticule out. Far less trauma, less risk of dry eye, and faster healing. It worked a treat. The procedure was weird, but painless. My eyes streamed and were painful for about an hour afterwards, but I could immediately see much better. The next day was good, and every day since an improvement on the last.
10 days on now and my optometrist said at my check up she can't even find the spot where the surgeon cut. All is well. My distance vision is amazing.
I had the procedure done in Sydney, Australia by Dr Michael Lawless at the Vision Eye Institute. He pioneered Laser Eye Surgery here, and his treatment was absolutely first class.
I hope I've reassured anyone who might be feeling understandably nervous. If you've got bags of cash, come to Australia for a holiday and get the most advanced procedure you can.

How wonderful, thank you for sharing your experience! I wear readers over my contacts and just hate it, so I can understand your desire to have this procedure.

So you are completely free from correction of any kind even readers?

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with SMILE laser surgery. I am considering an operation, but I did not know about this new technology. I am planning for Australia as our next vacation destination (I was pleasantly surprised to find out that air fair to your country is quite affordable: I live in California). I hope to have a great vacation along with having my eye problems fixed.

Thanks Chris. I am 52 and seeing Dr Stephen Bambery tomorrow to see if I am suitable for eye laser surgery. Very nervous. He offers SMILE as well as Lasek.
