Ever since I started High School I remember being...
Ever since I started High School I remember being bothered by the length of my labia. They made me feel so unfeminine and when it came to being with guys I would only go so far and not be able to explain to them why. Wearing swim suits without shorts was also never an option for me and some types of underwear would cause me discomfort...even walking around naked was uncomfortable. I had been researching for years about labiaplasty but finally this year, at the age of 21 I went to do something about it.
After lots of time spent on google looking up surgeons, Dr. Les Blackstock was the one who I felt was the best option. He uses the Alinsod technique which he was trained in how to do by Dr. Red Alinsod who came up with the technique. I had my consultation which cost $200 with him on the 1st of March and I then booked in my surgery for the 13th of March. I ended up getting labiaplasty with a clitoral hood reduction and payed $7000.
Day of Surgery: I arrived at his clinic and was given all the surgery attire to wear. I was given a couple forms to fill out and sign and the nurses got my blood pressure, temperature and weight. Les then came in and ran me through the surgery again and made sure I felt comfortable. I was then taken into the surgery theatre and placed on the table with my legs in stirrups which was a bit uncomfortable. Some before photos were then taken and incision markings were made. Needles were also placed into my arm and local anaesthesia was injected. My procedure lasted around 1.5 hours and I was able to listen to my ipod during the procedure to make me feel more comfortable and distracted. I was shown with a mirror the end result which I was very pleased with and shortly after I was sent home. It took me around an hour to get home and I still felt a bit weird due to the anaesthesia but as soon as I got out of the car and up to my room I noticed I was bleeding quite a lot. I had expected some bleeding but not this much and was losing blood quite quickly. I had to call Les a couple times but with his suggestion to lie down with my bottom elevated the bleeding stopped but I was quite faint. That night sleep wasn't very good but in the morning I felt so much better.
Recovery: The day after surgery Les called me to check in on me which made me feel more relaxed about everything. I was very bruised and swollen for a while but every day it got better and better. I had post op consultations 1 week and 6 weeks after surgery. I still have a way to go in recovery and have scarring and lumps that need to soften but I could not be happier with the results. However if for any reason I become unhappy with the results I am able to get a revision and only have to pay for the start up costs.
Theres a lot of bad reviews for labiaplasty but if you get a highly trained and experienced surgeon you can get amazing results. It may cost more but I would defiantly recommend a cosmetic or plastic surgeon over a gynaecologist as from my research they produce better results and are better trained in that area. This is one of the best things ive done for myself and it was worth all that money. To be able to wear a swimsuit and nice lingerie and not be ashamed is so exhilarating and I feel like I don't have to be closed off in intimate situations anymore. My only regret is that I didn't get it sooner!

Dr. Les Blackstock is an incredibly professional, kind and caring surgeon. He was able to answer all my questions and made me feel very comfortable. He is not money hungry and if the patient isn't happy he isn't either. He is a surgeon who is there for his patients and wants them to get great results. I highly recommend!
