Thank you all for sharing your stories. I never thought that removing implants without getting a lift was even an option - but after reading so many reviews/photos with really nice results I have finally worked up the courage to get the ball rolling! But I am so nervous.
I got my implants back in 2009 at age 20. I was a 32A and wanted perky 32C (silly me!!), but ended up with 32DD. Subglandular 325cc Eurosilicone impants via armpit incision. I always thought they were way too big, but was very happy to not have any complications and they looked good. Now I am 29 years/50kg/no kids and I want them out. While I have no physical issues with them, I feel so silly and embarrassed for even having implants in the first place because it is so not me. I plan on having kids/breastfeeding in the next couple of years so I feel now is a good time to have them removed.
I am so scared of how the result is going to be like, especially since the implants are so big and subglandular is said to cause more sagging. I do not want a lift or to replace the implants.
I am very unsure as to whether I should have a complete capsulectomy or not. It seems people and doctors are strongly disagreeing on this topic. The thought of removing the capsule and all the nasty chemicals and things that come with it sounds very refreshing to me and is what I am leaning towards. After recommendations from this page, I have finally booked a consultation with Dr Anoop Rastogi in 2 weeks and from what I understand he always removes the capsule. I hope I feel better after I see him as now I feel extremely anxious..
Stay tuned.

Surgery here or overseas....?
blackviolet1234March 21, 2018
I’m really on the fence as to whether I should have my surgery here in Sydney (where I live) or in Norway when I go home to visit family for 3 weeks later this year. For some reason, it is considerably cheaper in Norway than in Australia ($4000 vs. $8500+). However it would make my life a lot easier having it here and it would provide some peace of mind, especially should I have any complications after... Is 3 weeks enough time to have the surgery and any follow-ups after? I will be working most of the 3 weeks (in an office) because I don’t have much annual leave I can take off work.

I think you should go with your gut and do it where you live, from what I have read I think 3 weeks will be enough initial recovery time. Maybe you could post this question in the "Ask a Doc" section and see what the pros say. I think you will have a great result, go for it and trust yourself! :)

I don't think 3 weeks is enough. I have a follow-up 6 months after my surgery (removed in local).
If you have a simple explant without capsulectomy I think it is ok.
If you are having a capsulectomy I think it would be a bit risky. Probably 3 weeks will be enough...It depends on your gut-feeling :)

Thanks, I decided to do it here in SYD.. Haha don't think I could have dealt with the additional stress by doing it overseas!! Have you had your explant now?? I hope it went well and happy healing!! <3

Surgery next week!!

Had a great consultation with Dr Rastogi a few weeks ago and he was wonderful. We talked over everything, where I’m coming from regarding this and options and recommendations on how to go about it.
He have given me 2 options:
(1) crease incision with total capsulectomy - his only worry is that because apparently my crease was surgically lowered when I got the implants (and the original incision was via armpit) he has to make an estimation on where my natural crease is as he says the crease will retract to its natural position after the explant and he doesn’t want the scars to be too far down (or too far up!).. thankfully I have pictures taken before and straight after the BA that he will use to estimate where the incision should be made. Alternatively:
(2) to use the original incision (armpit), remove the implants and part of the lower part of the capsule to avoid fluids to build up inside. He said this is not something he normally does, but he is willing to to avoid making a new scar that may potentially be in the wrong position.
I have thought very long and hard about whether to go with option 1 or 2, but have decided on option 1 via crease which is wha the Dr also indicated he was leaning towards. I feel much more confident him doing a “standard procedure” he has done many times before than something “new”. Moreover, another reason why I want the capsule out - my implants are textured (which I didn’t realise)!!
But now I have another worry added to things that may go wrong.. what if the crease doesn’t retract to its natural position and the incision will be on the lower part of the breasts!! My doctor says I should not be needing internal sutures, but I can see from some of the Q&As on this page that other doctors says you do... I guess as with everything, it’s case by case..
Surgery booked in for 27 April. So soon, but cannot wait to get this over with. Feel sick in my stomach just thinking about it.
Sorry if I come across as very negative, that’s not my intentions!! I’m doing this because I want to live a life without implants and I’m excited. But just so scared..

I totally understand how you're feeling, went through the same 7 weeks ago. If you have any questions - feel free to ask! If not - good luck and a speedy recovery, you won't regret it

Surgery was a breeze (had textured implants, overs; let the capsules in for a less invasive procedure), recovery was easy too. Being natural feels great! Sometimes I wonder if my skin will shrink back more. But my PS told me to be patient, she thinks erverything looks good so far and changes will happen over the next months up to a year. My breasts, of course, are smaller now - that makes me look like I have lost some weight. My scars, by the way, look pretty good already

I’m so happy to hear you are doing well and have such a great attitude :) ! what a relief it must be!! it’s amazing what our skin is capable of. I’m hoping for the best but preparing for the worst..

I'm absolutely sure you will be fine! Your breasts look perky, before and now. You will have to adjust to less volume - that can be a little emotional challenge at first. My PS told me every board certified doctor can do an explant - no big deal at all. Have you read the review of sacred sister? She is around your age (she had 300 cc's) and has a beautiful outcome ...

ahhh I'm still struggling how to work this page. I posted my replies to you as normal comments above, so will post again: ahh you really are making me feel better :) thank you, I appreciate your comments. yes, i have looked at sacred sister and if my results are anything like hers I will be over the moon!! btw yayyyy that so good that your scars are looking good - did you use anything on them? was the crease your original incision?
April 19, 2018
I understand how you’re feeling. I had mine removef yesterday and I guess I worried for nothing. Everything went fine. I’m a little sore at the incision and where the tubes are, but just relaxing and taking it easy. Mine were saline, 350cc, under the muscle for 18 yrs! Goodness....what was I thinking
April 20, 2018
right!! I honestly don’t know what made me get implants in the first place! happy recovery to you, I’m glad it went well :)

My crease was my original incision. After my first operation I used a very expensive scar cream. This time I use panthenol and it works as good as the expensive cream! But wear your compression bra and don't overdo it for good scar healing. BTW I didn't need any medicine after my surgery. I only took bromalain and it really helped - had no swellings at all. Drink a lot, rest a lot, eat good food and take walks for good blood supply. Very excited for you!

I ended up going via scar as well and happy I did. has them put yesterday and I’m in no pain whatsoever and I love the look and feel of my new old natural boobies :) I have drains until Monday which is annoying, but small price to pay!! thanks for all your tips!!
April 27, 2018
going via **crease I mean and **had them out.. haha I guess I’m not properly awake yet, it’s 6am in Australia
April 27, 2018
Haven't I told you it is a breeze - compared to all the excitement we had to go through before our explants? Had my drains only for 24 hours (that was enough fun...). I'm sure you will look perfect very soon too, since you look that good already. Happy healing

I think you will be just fine. You have some breast tissue yourself and you have not been breastfeeding yet.
I'm going to move my implants in a month - 240 + 260 cc eurosilicone. And I have absolutely no breasttissue, but a lot of loose skin after breastfeeding. Oh I'm praying for a good result.
As you say, there is a lot of different opinions regarding the capsule. I'm not removing mine. My surgeon did not think it is necessary because I have no problems with them. And the scar tissue left will not make any harm. Silicone is not harmful... in fact we eat silicone every day. And it can be found other places in our body.
I can understand why you want your capsules removed and you should do exactly what you feel is right for yourself. My implants are locatede submuscular - here the capsule is harder to remove + the fact that I hardly has any breasttissue.
Don't feel anxious - I think it will turn out just fine.
Big hugs :)
If you feel safer about the en bloc removal, you should do that. But you must consider the risks following it (bleeding, deformity, loss of sensation, necrosis to the skin).
If you are removing a pacemaker, a hip- or knee-prothesis - then you aren't removing any surroinding tissue. There is silicone as well in our shampoo, in bodylotion, in medics given to newborns (stomach issues) etc :)
(I'm almost a doctor so I know something)
