A whole new life!

So, a month has passed, and I thought I would update my review :-)

First 24 hours: There was quite a lot of swelling, and the first night was hard to find a good resting position (as I am a side sleeper). I managed to find a way to sleep after some trial and error ;-)

I worked from home the next day, so that I could have access to the ice packs I got from the doctor - that was a good plan :-)

The swelling lasted 4-5 days in my case, and it was only mildly painful the first 24 hours.

The numbness lasted about 2-3 weeks, and now a month later I do have some of the lumps, that other people also report.

The hair growth is almost non-existent, and I expect it to stay that way :-)

I have experienced episodes of what I call "phantom sweating"; it is a sensation of sweat trickling out from under my arms, but luckily it was only a sensation as when I hurried to the bathroom to check, there was NOTHING :-D

Once the swelling subsided I have only once experienced a minor sweat stain of about a quarter in size. That was from a very intense situation at work combined with high humidity and temperature at the office (27 C / 80 F). That would normally have resulted in HUGE sweat stains of 25 cm / 9.8 inches!

That was the (temporary) side effects - now on to the positive elements of my story!

WHAT A DIFFERENCE this has been on my life! Now I month later I can safely say that the current level of virtual non-existent sweating is the real effect after the treatment :-)

I can now wear whatever I want, and I do not have to worry about sweating and use a lot of energy worrying. A couple of days after the treatment I went through my entire wardrobe and began throwing out all of the sweat stained "sweat camouflage" (dark coloured knitted pullovers, where the sweat stains cannot be seen) clothing I had. I almost had nothing left.

I now, with confidence, wear light blue shirts to work, and I feel good in them. For someone not suffering from the disease it is very hard to explain what that means!

The week before last I went to a big tech conference in London, and one of the speakers asked the audience of almost 400 people: "Who likes a challenge", and every one said "I do". The speaker then said: "Ok, then one of you please come to the stage".

I was wearing my light blue shirt and would never before have considered going to the stage, even in my "sweat camouflage" clothing. I took the challenge and went to the stage, and I was raising my arms to the ceiling! I felt like Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic - not at the end of the movie, but when he stands on the deck at the front of the ship together with Kate Winslet ;-)

I have felt a rush of energy and yearning for experiencing life anew, and I am so looking forward to enjoying this new life even more - especially in the coming months during summer, which previously has been the worst season for me or any other sufferer from this disease.

Thank you for reading this far, and if you, like I was before my treatment, are reading about this treatment, do yourself a favour, find a doctor who offers the treatment and get it; the discomfort is more than outweighed by the benefits from this amazing treatment!

I had been suffering from hyperhidrosis since my early teens, and I had been struggling with it silently for many years (I am now a 43 year old man).

About 17 years ago I was waiting for a procedure where the underarms would be cut open and the sweat glands would removed. I contacted the hospital after about a week of thinking of the pros and cons of the procedure, and cancelled - I was too afraid of all the side effects.

Last summer I learned about the botox treatment. I got one treatment, and that stopped working after just 3 weeks, and I got a follow-up treatment that lasted for about 2½ months.

Those about 3 months were the happiest of my life. At first I could not believe it, but then I relaxed, and I felt great.

When the effects started to fade I became really depressed, even more than before, because now I had tasted a life without excessive underarm sweating!

I sort of coped with the problem, because now it was winter again, and then it becomes a little bit more tolerable.

Until now, when it really started to affect both my professional and personal relationships. I became too aware, that I spent far too much mental energy on this problem, that I did not have the energy to properly live my life the way I wanted to.

I started researching, and came across Miradry. I navigated to the "Find a physician" page on the MiraDry website, and only one practitioner in Denmark (Europe) came up; SWEATfree.dk. I contacted the doctor immediately and got an appointment for the pre-procedure.

Then I found this website, realself.com, where I suddenly could read stories from other people who had been suffering from the same disease and how MiraDry was a real life changer. I was so relieved and happy that I was now able to do something about this debilitating problem!

Today the 25th of May, 2016, I have had the procedure done. The procedure itself was almost pain free, except for some of the local anesthetic administered. The pain was, when in some cases the needle hit a nerve. The pain was not that bad and only very brief.

Lisa had a great technique where she administered the anesthetic on every other point, and then after a brief time returned to the other points, but by then the first anesthetic administered started working :-)

The procedure itself was completely pain free, because Lisa made sure, that all points were numbed, before starting.

I got the second largest area treated and the maximum dosage per point (about 45 seconds each).

Afterwards I felt great, but I was not prepared for the emotional effects; more than 30 years of dealing with this was suddenly over, and I felt so relieved that I on several occasions I could not hold tears back.

All those years of shame, anxiety, worrying, avoiding social gatherings, that almost painful feeling of wet clothes to the skin, and of all the tell-tale marks of thick crust of deodorant on t-shirts and shirts is now over. It is hard to describe, unless you have suffered from the disease and suddenly feeling the relief!

It is now about 6 hours since the procedure, and I feel swelling and some discomfort, but I know that it is only temporary.

I have been taking a combination ibuprofen and paracetamol to alleviate the discomfort and swelling. And then of course I am cooling the area with those little freezing packs.

I will be updating my review on a regular basis so that you can follow my progress.

Today is the beginning of my new life and I could not be happier!!!

Lisa is a very empathetic, open, and understanding doctor. I felt very informed and relaxed before, during, and after the procedure. Before starting the treatment she made sure that I would not feel any pain during the procedure, and was very attentive during the treatment making sure that I did not feel any discomfort.
