Melanoma

Melanoma

WORTH IT
I went into a plastic surgeons office for a consult visit about getting Botox. The RN suggested that I get a brown spot on my face looked at, she said it looked like basal cell carcinoma. I immediately made an appointment with a dermatologist. I went it and they did a biopsy on what I thought for years was a sun spot. The results came back in exactly one week and as I was leaving work I got the phone call that my results were in and could I please pull my car over, I said I couldn’t bc I was on a bridge. She said ‘Amy, it came back as melanoma’ I asked what exactly does that mean? She said ‘it’s cancer, it’s the most aggressive kind of skin cancer’ I immediately went into panic mode. That’s when I knew nothing would ever be the same for me in my life. Within 2 days I was at another plastic surgeons office and was told what would happen, how my face would be cut on and the cancer would be removed. This was not Moh’s surgery. The cancer was cut out and a patch of silicone was stitched over the hole I now had on my face. I am now waiting for the pathology results to come back. If the cancer is still there, more of my face will be taken off. If it comes back cancer free, the reconstruction process will begin on my face. My point is don’t ever assume ‘it’s just a sun spot’ or ‘I’m getting older, it’s an age spot’ always have it looked at by a doctor. I added pictures that hopefully turn out in the correct order starting with the picture that I thought was ‘just a sun spot’ to how I look at this very minute.
