My surgery is fast approaching!! I'm getting so anxious and excited!
Right now my biggest fear is blood clots. I'm very active and have pretty good cardiovascular health, but since I'm flying so close to the surgery (both before and after) I'm needlessly anxious! I know it probably won't be an issue, and I'll be wearing compression socks and taking a baby aspirin per my docs orders, but I'm still nervous!
Otherwise, I'm just running through all my needs, do I have everything, what to expect, as well as the pretty normal pre-surgery "am I making the right decision" thoughts.
All in all though, I'm ready, I'm excited, I'm working on my wellness and health and mentality, and I'm just wanting to get on with getting on!
Timeline wise, I fly back on the 23rd (just over a week from now), have my pre-op on Thursday or Friday the 25/26th and then have surgery on the 30th!!! :D

Had my consultation via Skype on Tuesday and it went swimmingly. I'm super fortunate that my Husband is a Med student, so we were able to do all the measurements and anatomical things on our end and have them be accurate for the insurance stuff. Otherwise, everything was great. Dr. Grenga seems to think I'm a good candidate based on my petite size, and mentioned that just by looking he's pretty certain he can get around 450-500g from my right, and 600g from my left (somewhere in the ball park of 1100 grams total). End size is hopefully an 32A/32B (probably more B), and I have up to the actual marking up on the day of surgery to decide. He seemed pretty sure that he could get them very small without issue.

Then we waited to hear back about the insurance pre-authorization and around 4 PM Wednesday it came back official!! We're approved!! Insurance will cover everything but my deductible, and I'll be all set.

Surgery is scheduled for 1/30; I'll be flying back to the states 1/23 and having a pre-op that Thursday or Friday before my surgery. Then the hard part.... being patient and healing at my moms before I'm cleared to fly back home to my husband! I'm anticipating that that will actually be the hardest part of this whole process. We're pretty attached at the hip and I can't stand the idea of being away for a whole month.

Fortunately, he's SUPER amazing and supportive and has wanted this for me, for a long time, so in the end it will all be worth it, I'm sure.

Anyways... I digress... I'm super excited and ready to get this show on the road!

Can anyone think of anything I should be buying pre-op? Like, did you really NEEEEEED additional surgical bras, or was the one they send you home in fine... and what kinds of immediate self care things did you prefer to have on hand?

Any and all advice is welcome and appreciated!

Still waiting on Consultation... Questions about flying post surgery?

dossettpm
I have a virtual consultation scheduled for Next Tuesday! This should be the official day everything is signed, sealed, delivered with insurance and scheduling and all that! I'm trying to not be too in my head. But good vibes and prayers that insurance will be seamless and easy to deal with would be MUCH appreciated.

Secondly; I actually live overseas with my husband while he attends medical school. I'll be flying home for the surgery, but I'm really concerned about flying back. According to the Patient Care Rep, they should be able to clear me to fly about 10-12 days post surgery. I know not to do any heavy lifting, so I'll be traveling very light... but I'm kinda concerned about the pressure changes during flight (I'll have about 7 hours of flying overall).

Has anyone ever flown so soon after their surgery? Was it terribly uncomfortable or did you fare pretty well?!

I haven't, but I've certainly seen people on here who fly to other countries to get their surgeries done and they seem to do fine. If it were me, I think MY biggest concern would be the close quarters of an airport and airplanes. At two weeks I was still VERY paranoid about elbows, furniture, pushy people, seatbelts, etc. You will still be quite tender at 10-12 days so plan accordingly, i.e. pillows, blankets, extra gauze in your bra!
