Not worth it
So after over 4 years since the initial procedure I’ve come to the conclusion that this procedure was not worth it for me. Basically my worst fear has been realized that my face looks worse now than it did before due to the unevenness of the result and the 2.5 inch scar I have from the second procedure. After the initial procedure it was abundantly obvious that the left side of my sub mental area was much fuller than the other. I went to about half a dozen follow up appointments where I was told it was everything from post op swelling, to fluid retention and finally scar tissue build up. After being told it was due to weight gain, I asked the dr to look at my progress photos showing my left side has always been fuller, he finally admitted it and gave me a cortisone injection which didn’t help at all. After a year of these explanations and wearing a compression garment for at least 12 hours a day I was finally told I needed another procedure to remove scar tissue build up on the left side. Although I was afraid of having another procedure especially with the same doctor, I ultimately agreed since it was the only way I would have a chance at getting the result I wanted without having to pay for a whole other procedure with a new doctor, which I couldn’t afford. I assumed the procedure would be like the initial one and wasn’t told anything to the contrary, but I was wrong. Instead of having the small half inch scars I had during the initial procedure, I had a two and a half inch scar across the entirety of my chin! This wasn’t mentioned to me in the office but rather I realized it when I removed the bandages at home. I’m not sure which is worse, the fact that my left side was STILL substantially fuller than the right, or the large scar I’m left with that is still and probably always will be incredibly noticeable. When I brought this to Dr. Ress’ attention a year and a half ago he told me the only solution was So after over 4 years since the initial procedure I’ve come to the conclusion that this procedure was not worth it for me. When I brought this to Dr. Ress’ attention a year and a half ago he told me the only solution was yet another procedure! There was no way I was going back under the knife with him not knowing what sort of disfigurement I’d wake up with this time. So I decided to wait it out and see it gets better. Well here we are 4.5 years later and it seems to me it only looks worse probably due to skin elasticity loss, which gives little hope for the future without some sort of other procedure. I wasn’t expecting perfection or to have a perfectly chiseled jaw line. Honestly if both sides looked like my right side, I’d be happy with that. I’m just heartbroken and angry at myself with this outcome. A lot of people were against me getting the procedure in the first place and now I have to face them with the devastating results. I spent money I didn’t have and time in recovery I’ll never get back. I chose Dr. Ress because he had excellent reviews. Literally no one left a review with a negative outcome. Maybe he’s great at the more common implants and tummy tucks/lipo, just not this. I tried to do my due diligence and it didn’t help which scares me when it comes to getting anything else done. If I could go back I would have left myself alone.
Post op check up
I had my post op check up today and the doctor explained the he removed some scar tissue as well as some subplatysmal fat that was under the muscle. He also added a few sutures essentially to adhere my skin to the muscle which will dissolve in about 6 weeks. He described it like tufting. Although I’m still swollen since the procedure was yesterday I already feel like the result is better than the first time. My only obvious concerns this time is the scar I will have under my chin. I plan to treat with scar cream and potentially microneedling down the road if needed. If I get the results I’m looking for this time then it will be a small price to pay in my book!
Day one after surgery to remove scar tissue
The doctor went in through my chin to remove scar tissue as well as perform lipo on some residual fat. I will be going in later today for my follow up.
