I'm a 22 year old woman 4'8 ft tall with 36DD bra size. I weigh 97lbs, & I think 20lbs of that is just breast. Well, I'm going for surgery on 1/16/2014. I'm getting pretty nervous about it, but mainly anxious to get to have the body I've always wanted and thought would fit me well. I've done a lot of research on it & watched all videos on documentaries about women who've gotten it done, and I'm pretty confident about it. I'm just nervous about it because I have a toddler that I have to take care of being a single parent. I feel as though this will change my whole life in a really good way. Please share your stories with me. I would like to know about your experience and what I can expect from surgery day till you've gone down to the size you had desired. Thanks everyone. :)

Hello, just a word of encouragement for you...I too am a single mom with a 19 month old boy and I had a reduction a month ago. You will be ok! The surgery will be over so fast, the pain is not that bad, and after only a few weeks you'll be ok holding your little one. But you will need help lifting for a few weeks. If at all possible stay with family or friends that can help with your child. You'll do great and won't regret it. Good luck!
January 5, 2014
Yes I will be staying at my cousins house for about two weeks so she can help me out with the baby, I really appreciate your reassurance because I was almost having second thoughts because I've heard the pain can be overwhelming.
January 5, 2014
The pain is not bad...if you have neck or back pain right now the pain of surgery is less than the daily back pain. If you're doing it only for cosmetic reasons though remember with a size of 36DD it'll probably only be about 2 lbs or less removed, not 20. It's really up to you of you think the after effects (eg scars and recovering) are worth it. It's a very personal choice. In my case I had no choice, I was very very large. Follow your heart and what you think is best. Take care

If you can have a baby then you can do this!
January 5, 2014
Im doing it to relieve the back & neck pain, they are way to big for my height. But thank you once again. :)
January 5, 2014
Glad to hear you will be staying at your cousins help and she will assist with your baby. VERY glad about that. I can honestly say the pain from my BR was completely manageable. I had very little true pain and that was only the first couple of days (and percocet took the edge right off). After that it was just discomfort which made me a cranky, whiny girl the first week. No lie, one week after my surgery I was back to doing everything except lifting heavy things - I was feeling good and my recovery was an easy one. Every woman has a different journey and experience but I can say for me the recovery was a bazillion times easier than I anticipated or ever expected.
January 5, 2014
Do you have any help from family or friend after your surgery?
January 5, 2014
I would recommend getting some help for the first couple of days. It is easier to cancel the help...then to try to get it set up after surgery. You probably won't need it...but if you do...it is great to have it ready.

Tomorrow is my Pre-Op

Sue21_91
So tomorrow is my Pre-op and I have to say that it's beginning to kick in that this is really going to happen. I've written some questions down for my PS but nothing crazy. One of them being what pain killers am I going to get because I'm allergic to a few. I'll be sure to post some before pictures tomorrow. This site has really helped me out to feel more comfortable about this life changing decision.

Sue21_91, I am beyond excited for you! I was a 36DDD before my BR but I'm 5'6 165. I can only imagine my breasts would have been completely 100% thoroughly and totally unmanageable on a woman of your petite stature. So excited for you!!!
January 5, 2014
JennyDrisroll you have no idea! It's such a relief to finally after about 4 years of consideration to be so close to it.

Roxydog I know how you feel. All my life I've felt annoyed by all the nasty sexual comments I've gotten. Finally able to feel comfortable. Even tho I haven't gotten them reduced being so close is amazing, I met up with the Surgeon today and it's starting kick in. I really do hope you get to experience this too, it's such a relief to know you'll be able to love your body, feel comfortable looking in the mirror. Ahh I swear to you, I hope with all my heart you get the surgery soon. Keep in touch.

Thanks for replying! :) yeah I actually went for my consultation and my PS was SO sweet. Cute little tiny old Indian man! Haha I felt so comfortable with him and he said I'm a good candidate! He is writing my letter and going to send it to Aetna (my insurance) so now the waiting name begins! But I feel the same as you I feel it's starting to become a reality and not just a dream anymore! Fingers crossed I get approved! I'll keep in touch! You as we'll! Everyone is so sweet on this site. Sucha strong community of girls! I thought for so long I was the only one with this annoying problem! But too my knowledge so many other girls feel the same! Good luck!!
January 9, 2014
Aww yay!! That's great! Now do not get discouraged if the insurance doesn't approve it at the first try. I got denied the first time, I had to call my insurance & see what I needed to do to get approved, they said 3-6 months of physical therapy & chiro, now I couldn't wait that long, but for my luck I work for a physical therapy office, they helped me out a lot and 2 months later I for approved. I can't even begin to tell you the excitement of getting that phone call. My initial consultation with my PS was back in April 2013, now I'm literally a week away from surgery. But again best of luck to you Hun!!!!

Thanks! and i know I'm trying not to get my hopes up. i actually just switched from horizon blue cross blue shield and they denied me once before with a different surgeon. i now have aetna which everyone has had good outcomes with them. so I'm crossing my fingers! but def not getting my hopes up. I'm just hoping for the best haha. yeah with horizon blue cross blue shield they wanted the same crap and i was like uhhh no.. i have no money for co pays and stuff. thats awesome though! thank god you worked there!! yeah i heard when you get that call you fall off your chair! haha! AH thats so exciting!! so happy for you! you'll do great!
January 10, 2014
Yeah Blue Cross is pretty good actually so hopefully they'll approve it right away. Girl! I jump off my chair at work, screamed & I told my coworkers and they started screaming with me. Everyone is so supportive & I'm so thankful for that. Even my bf is excited haha. It's exactly a week from today. Putting it in gods hands that everything will go great.

Haha no I said I went from blue cross to Aetna bc blue cross denied me and sucked hahha!! But I'm happy it worked out for you!! That's so awesome! My boyfriend is super supportive too and also because he's tired of having to hold my boobs up for me when my bra is off haha. He's like here let me take some weight off and 2 secs later he's like there so heavy I can't even hold them up haha! But you'll do great!!
January 10, 2014
OMG I'm sorry haha I have Fidelis & they are great! Well... Not for everything but I can't complain. & hahahaa! I don't ever take off my bra unless it's cause I'm going to sleep, he hates it! But I'm not comfortable enough with them specially after having a kid. I'm looking forward to looking normal in a bathing suit! I know you being so small too that has to be annoying!
User Avatar

Haha it's all good! I never heard of that insurance! But if they covered you for breastreduction than fine there good at one thing atleast! Haha I bet! Yeah I usually only take it for sleeping but like if I'm in bed with him and I have a tee shirt on he try's to help. Haha yeah after having kids I'm sure it affects them. I wouldn't know yet but I could only imagine! Oh stop bathing suits so embarrassing: I've worn sports bras for my tops in summer bc regular bathing suit tops won't fit and I hate old gross men lookin at me. Even like my uncles (who are totes normal ) haha I just don't feel comfortable. There gross looking to me. My friends are always like omg give them to me. I'm like you can have them! Il have surgery and you can take them right from the doctor haha
January 10, 2014
Hahaha!!! OMG!! My friends & cousins tell me the same thing! I'm like I wish what he takes off from my breast could go to my ass! Haha! But yeah it's embarrassing. No shirt or dress ever looks good, either fits good from the top but not on the bottom or viceversa.
January 6, 2014
I'm 4 weeks post op and I'm pretty happy. I'm still a little sore and I've had to fight an infection but they say that's normal. I haven't had a headach or a neck ache since surgery. Plus my boobs finally look the way they should. I feel so much more comfortable in clothes. I can finally wear a cardigan and button it across my boobs and it doesn't pop open. I was also back to doing normal activities in about a week. I have 3 kids and my little ones are 3 and 18 months. My husband was a big help but I think I should have rested more. It's just so hard with little ones. My advice is to allow your cousin to help you and don't try to do too much too fast. Good luck. You'll be fine and happy when it's over.
January 7, 2014
Thanks Mommyof3kiddos thats exactly what I'm looking forward too, being able to feel comfortable with my body, and being able to wear clothes without having the button pop open lol, along with of course the relief of pain. I'm really excited now
January 6, 2014
I to put the op off for years due to fear, in the end my initial consultation with my PS, and insurance approval happened so fast I did not have time to think. My only regret is that I did not do this years ago. The recovery is fine. Get help looking after your baby and anything that can wait leave it wait. Take care of you, best of luck and I look forward to hearing about your progress.
January 7, 2014
Thank you perky boobs, that's exactly what I'm striving for lol perky boobs, but yes I've given it about 3-4 years worth of thought & after reading all the great stories on this site, I feel confident in my decision. I'll defitinetly keep you posted. :) thank you!
