I have done a lot of research on liposuction and...
I have done a lot of research on liposuction and surgeons throughout the years. Once I met Dr. Berman and his staff, I immediately knew I reached my last stop. From the time you step in to this office for consultation until after the surgery, the care, the attention and the professionalism are all impeccable.
Dr. Berman answered all my questions and concerns during my initial consultation and I decided to go with Smart Lipo (arms, bra line, flanks, abdomen, and inner thighs). He was not pushy and gave very honest feedback. Even though I requested additional work, he stated that I did not need that and we should just proceed with Smart Lipo.
I scheduled my surgery about 1.5 months after the consultation. During that time frame, I became a bit nervous. I called the office with some questions and without hesitation; they scheduled another consultation with Dr. Berman. Once again, he answered all my questions and concerns with patience.
The morning of my surgery, I took the medications I was prescribed. I did not sleep much the night before, so I could take a nap during the surgery. By the time we started, due to combination of medication and lack of sleep, I was all ready to sleep. Dr. Berman was very informative on what he was doing and what the next step would be while performing the surgery. I slept during most of the surgery. I did not feel any discomfort or pain. Once we were finished, the nurse helped me with my garment. I made my follow up appointment and was driven home by a friend. I slept most of the afternoon and woke up for dinner. I felt a bit bloated, but I was overall feeling fine. The next day, I was told by my friend (she was with me after the surgery and stayed overnight) that I was pretty entertaining ? I was very sure I was conscious, but it seems like I was a bit loopy.
When I woke up the next morning, I took my garment off to take a shower. I was checking the gauze placed on my cuts to see if I had any bleeding or leakage. It seemed like the only area I had some was my abdomen; which is the area he worked on it the most. The amount of blood/leakage I had on the gauze was no more that couple of drops and all the other gauzes were perfectly clean. I stayed home for two days, but I could very well have gone to work. I was bloated, mostly numb all over and had very minor pain (not more than a bruise). I did not use any pain killers the day of or after the surgery.
Within about 5 days after the surgery, I had very minor bruising that went away in about 10 days. I had the surgery on Wednesday and went back to work on Monday. Even though I was still bloated, had my garment and layers of clothing, not only myself, but even my friends could see the difference. Most of the numbness went away within the first month. Some areas were only numb for about 10 days and some for longer. Next week, it will be 3 months since the surgery. Besides being significantly thinner in the areas Dr. Berman worked, the only reminder I have of the surgery is a very slight discomfort on my abdomen area and that is only when I push on it. Then again, this is the area that he worked the most on and since there are more muscles in this area, the healing process takes longer.
Overall, this is a super easy process with almost no downtime. The only suggestion I could give is to make sure to find a good quality garment since it will be stuck on you for about a month. Also, for the same reason, if possible schedule the surgery during winter or fall. It is not very pleasant to wear an almost full body garment during hot weather.
If I were to get any other surgery, I will not even consider another surgeon. As I stated in the beginning, Dr. Berman and his practice will always be my first & only choice. Dr. Berman texted me next day of the surgery; as well as the following day, to make sure I was doing well. Between him and his staff, I was very confident all my questions and concerns will always be answered; pre and after surgery. Dr. Berman is not only a great surgeon and absolutely very competent at what he does, he is also a very caring one.
