I've literally had breast tissue since I was 1. My doctor made me go to an endocrinologist to ensure my hormones were all at the right levels. Turns out everything was fine, I just started developing SUPER early. By kindergarten, I was in my first bra. By my freshman year of high school, I was an overflowing D, and when I walked across the stage, I was busting out of an F. All of my life I've had MASSIVE breasts. It's finally gotten to a point where the pain, discomfort, and burden of them has pushed me over the edge. I've officially scheduled my procedure just a little over a month from now. I'm very anxious!

Recovery Time

So I'm in a bit of a debate with myself. I'm a teacher and ideally would love to have this surgery done over spring break. But is that enough time to heal? I have it scheduled on the Tuesday of my spring break which would give me about 5 days (not including surgery day) to recover before going back to teaching. I teach high school math and while I can accommodate myself a bit and sit down for most of the day, it will be a full day of talking, teaching, moving, etc. My second option is to get it done right after the school year ends; however I'm changing school districts and there's the potential they'll cancel my insurance after the last day of school. Which means buh bye to my 100% covered procedure.
Now I do have about 4-5 sick/personal days left so I could take additional time after spring break if I really need it, but as a teacher, I never really want to leave my students alone for long periods of time. ESPECIALLY when you're trying to prep them for their end of the year standardized testing.
Thoughts? I keep going back and forth in my mind. I would love some advice from my Real Self family.

For me I was bummed that I didn't have more than the two weeks that I took which I think is the minimum, my surgery was on a Tuesday so i had Monday to do a few things .The second week was full of emotional ups and downs.

Everyone heals at their own rate. I had my reduction two years ago, and scar revision with further reduction of the left breast two weeks ago. With both surgeries I was bowling after two weeks, and that's just because the surgeon told me to wait. I could have gone earlier. So ... it's hard to advise you, but I wish you all the best with both your surgery and your decision!

I'm a teacher too and thought about having it done over Spring Break. However, after reading about everyone's experiences, I feel like I would need at least 2 weeks recovery time so I put it off until summer. Since insurance could be an issue for you, I would consider using some of your sick time. Maybe take a few days off before Spring Break and a few days after...that way you wouldn't be out for a whole week. Just a thought.

As I sit here about 4.5 weeks out from surgery, I can't lie, I'm freaking out a little bit.
Today I was in so much pain after my work day ended. All I could think was "4.5 more weeks. It's almost over." It brought a smile to my face. Light at the end of the tunnel :-)
