I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Buchanan. He has a wonderful bedside manner and yet remains very professional. He spends as much time with me as I need and never seems to be in a hurry. If I text him he answers in a very timely manner. He is the best plastic surgeon I have ever had and I feel Spokane is very fortunate to have him.

I am a 30 year cancer survivor. At the time of my diagnosis I chose to have a modified radical mastectomy of the right breast due to the aggressive nature of the cancer. Three months later I underwent breast reconstruction. I was fortunate in that I did not have to have chemo or radiation because the cancer was caught very early. One year later I had a simple mastectomy of the left breast due to premalignant breast disease. I underwent reconstruction at the same time. Eleven years later I had a second reconstruction due to contracture of the implants. I went twenty years before I needed to have them redone. In April of 2015 I underwent reconstruction without tissue expanders. Two weeks later I developed a staph infection in the left implant which then spread to the right. Needless to say they both needed to be removed. I decided to go to another plastic surgeon for a second opinion. That was my first encounter with Dr. Buchanan. He explained everything in great detail in very clear and understandable terms. He answered all my questions. One of the many things that impressed me about him was how careful and concerned he was. I had to wait six months before he would do my reconstruction to make sure I had adequately healed. He also put in tissue expanders so give me the best chance for a favorable outcome. The expanders are now filled to the correct capacity and I now have to wait three months before the final reconstruction to give the skin time to acclimate to the stretching. I am so pleased with the way they look. He did an excellent job. He is such a perfectionist. Due to the extensive surgery on my right side it made a challenge for him but the outcome is fantastic!
