Finally Found the Cure for Hormonal Acne!
I have tried everything under the sun to treat acne for the last decade and invested upwards of $10k in my search for a cure for acne including various lasers, six months of accutane (which did heal my acne, but it returned a year later), antibiotics, retin A, natural supplements, diet changes, facials, creams, serums, etc. The time wasted in treating and masking my acne every single day as well as the money I’ve wasted trying to treat it, means acne has taken over all aspects of my life. I’m in my late twenties and even avoided relationships because my acne was destroying me. I’ve invested so many hours, days, months, and years researching acne that I should have an honorary medical degree (joking of course). After accutane, I lost hope in pharmaceuticals to treat acne, but out of sheer desperation, I decided to try Spironolactone. I’ve known about the drug for quite some time now, but dismissed it since I heared it is a long term drug that only works when you are taking it. I was also fearful of the diuretic effect, thinking it would interfer in my daily life. My dermatologist perscribed me 100mg of Spirolactone upon my request and also added Epiduo Forte, a topical. Over the past month of my new regimen, I witnessed an acne miracle happen. My face grew clearer and clearer almost immediately. I was very lucky as many people who reviewed the drug said it may take up to 5 months to notice a difference. I’m not sure if it was the spironolactone alone, or the two working together, but my skin is almost as clear as it was right after Accutane! I had to get a cortisone shot a month in to clear out two giant clusters of acne on boths sides of my neck that have been lingering for months (also recommend), but that was the only challenge spirolactone wasn’t able to overcome. My chest and face are doing so much better now. I still get an occasional pimple or cyst, but it’s only been two months. I have a ton of scars to deal with eventually, but I’ll tackle that in a few months. I highly recommend tackling acne from both ends with Spironolactone and a topical like Epiduo Forte and, if need be, a cortisone shot for mega cysts that won’t budge. Just three months ago my acne was so bad I wouldn’t just be getting new pimples everyday, but every few hours! I’d come back in the evening with zits I didn’t have when I left in the morning. Sometimes, and most embarrassingly, my zits would pop by themselves as I was talking since they would be so ripe that just my mouth moving would cause them to burst. It was the worst it’s been in a very long time. To see that Spironolactone and Epiduo Forte have taken me from that to this is unbelievable. The best part is that I don’t feel like the diuretic factor is interfering with my lifestyle that much. I naturally pee a lot because I drink a lot, so I would say I probably go one more time a day that my previous usual. The only thing I noticed as far as side effects is that it may be causing me to be a little bit more moody than usual, but I am convinced that it’s just the change in hormone levels and it will balance out soon. I am thrilled and hope to continue to see results. I would like to go down to 50mg a day in the future, probably after six months and see how I fare on a lower dose long term.
