Face Lift and Neck Lift Bristol Spire Hospital

I was 53 when I went to see Philip Guest and he told me that I would need a full face lift and neck lift to get the results I wanted which were a more defined jaw line and loose skin on my neck removed. After the operation I saw the doctor who checked me over and sent me home. Two days after my neck on the right hand side was swelling alarmingly. I spoke to the hospital staff nurse who told me she would get back to me and hours later I had to call back and got no help. I left numerous messages on the number I had for Mr Guest and no response. I took myself to my local hospital and was told they would not help as Mr Guest was a maxofillial surgeon and they only had plastic surgeons who refused to treat me. I told them I would see my surgeon if I could but it was a two and a half hour drive to get to Bristol and I could not get hold of him. When the hospital called he he finally got back to me and said he had been away overnight. I went to another hospital who finally treated me. I had infection in my stitches and the swelling in my neck was due to the salivary gland leaking due to damage caused in the operation. I had to go back to the hospital again the following day to have another 200mls of fluid drained. I had holes at the back of my ears where the skin was not healing. I went to see Mr Guest twice in Bristol and as told it was fine and this had never happened before. Finally the wounds closed 8 weeks after the op. I have thick scarring around the back of my ear that is still painful to touch Almost 8 months on. I am going see him about this at the end of the month and a few other issues. If you have a neck lift be aware that it can make your salivary glands in your neck very visible and this is something that I'm told he will not correct. So you don't end up with the sculpted jaw line you hoped for. I wish I had been told this can happen and that if it was a problem that he wouldn't be able to correct it as I could have looked for a surgeon that did do this if it was a problem.

Dominique Bray in the UK does a lot of facelifts.I wonder if all surgeons who give this neck lift , if their patients will end up w/ the salivery glands very visible? If that's the case, we better keep off this neck lift. Hope things do get better for you. Thanks for the review. Appauling that he wont correct it, since he did surgery on you.
I had my surgery with Dominic Bray 12 months ago - a face and neck lift - he was on hand 24/7 and every month since my surgery. He has just completed a revision neck lift and platysmaplasty free of charge because he wasn't 100% happy with the results!! He is also an amazing person - give him a call - he is more than happy to answer questions for you
Best of luck xx
arianne....Thank you for sharing. Dominique Bray sounds like a surgeon who takes pride in the quality of his work.
I'm having the same procedure as you in summer arianne99. Can you tell me why Dominic wasn't happy with your result? Your photos look lovely x
I would definitely suggest a visit to the face expert, Mr. Dominic Bray. He is - quite simply - amazing ... I would go so far as to say, one of the most decent, compassionate & warm doctors - nay, human beings - you could have the pleasure of meeting. Add to this his extraordinary skills ... if anyone can help, I'm sure he can!
Stay away from Philip Guest. I ended up with a haematoma following my so called mini-lift.
Hi shuell - I hope you got some aftercare treatment for your haematoma. All surgeons can encounter haematomas, but it's how they deal with them that matters. Mr Guest ignored my haematoma, so it did adversely affect my recovery and result. He told me only 1 in 500 of his patients suffer a haematoma (an unusually low percentage), so it seems that we were the unlucky 2 in 1000 (?).
What causes haematoma in facelifts? And does it go away on its own? or does it need work on to be fixed?
I had to be cut open again in the A&E department of my local hospital, drained and stitched up again. Overnight stay. Mr Guest was not that bothered when I called him.
That's shocking - how are you now? Hope you are recovering x
That doesn't surprise me he is a charlatan. Once he has had your money he has no further interest. I hope you have recovered now.
I bet he's bothered now though!! He might have 37 or whatever years' experience and a fancy website full of glowing testimonials, but that's nothing compared to the might of a few seriously pi55ed off, badly-treated women with access to a plastic surgery review website! The three of you have probably saved several others from a similar fate.
Thank you I really hope so
Hi Lesdd. I would think very carefully before returning to Philip Guest for any revision/repair to work he has already undertaken on you. See posts on realself regarding the results from other patients. You do not want any further damage to yourself.
Thank you I have made arrangements to see another surgeon for his opinion
Hi - he wasn't happy because one of my platysma bands was showing again and after everything settled I had some lose skin - so he wanted everything to be perfect and corrected everything free of charge - not too many surgeons that will do that xx
Thanks Arianne, are you happy with your outcome now?
x
Hi icbee - I'm really pleased - no sign of any bands and again Dominic is checking that everything is still ok xx
