Smile Direct Club Journey for spacing/gaps.

I went to the Smile Shop, got impressions and photos taken. They answered all questions and explained everything clearly. I got my teeth whitener (2 day worth of gel, but an “treatment” is 4 days) and lip balm in a tote bag. Provided my cc for pre-auth (meaning they debit your card as soon as your plan is established). I was told I would hear back regarding my treatment plan within 48 hours.

My acct was debited $250. I got an email that my plan was ready. I went online to check it out. No bueno. Currently, all of my top teeth have spaces and I also have an overbite currently. In the 3D rendering, the gap between my front teeth was corrected, as well as the spaces between my front teeth and lateral incisors. But this is where it gets interesting. The spacing between the lateral incisors and the canines actually increased. This was the same on both sides. It seems that the lateral incisors were pushed forward, which increased the prominence of the overbite. The result was very unsightly. (See video/pics above). I’m not sure how someone could have looked this and thought, “Yup, looks good!” I contacted smile direct and the representative was very helpful. He said that I should get an email shortly regarding the dental professional’s response to my concern. I really hope the issue can be resolved :(

Hi there, and thank you for reaching out! We would like to clarify that there are limitations to our aligners, as we don't use attachments or other orthodontic procedures. That said, our dental team works hard to provide optimal results within our protocol. Our team is always available to assist!

Hello,

I am in a similar situation where the plan shows that the gap between the lateral incisors and canines is going to be increased. Was the issue resolved?

Thanks!

No. I think I will go through with the plan, then address the spacing with tooth bonding or maybe even real braces or Invisalign if I still need it. What did you decide?

I think if you are going to finish with Invisalign, you might as well start with Invisalign. Or braces. As smile direct club said they have limitations whereas Invisalign can use attachments to better align your teeth.

You need to consult with a prosthodontist.

I called back just to make sure the aligners for the first treatment plan aren’t in production. The rep assured me it wasn’t an issue and that I should hear back within 3-5 days regarding an updated plan.

Also, my review is labeled “not worth it” somehow. That’s an error, but I am unable to change it :(. I definitely think it’s worth it and hope the next treatment plan addresses my primary concerns.

I got an email today (early!) saying that they would not be able to remove the spaces behind my lateral incisors. This is because my canines, if moved, would be out of alignment and my bite would be off. Sounds legit. They suggested I complete treatment and have the space corrected by a cosmetic dentist.

I’m not sure what I should do. Do I want to pay the financial and personal cost to transpose the spacing to a different location? Not sure. I’m also not sure what my options are for closing the space cosmetically. I don’t know if veneers are a good option, because my teeth are already large, and veneers would make them look even bigger. I don’t know if the size of the space being created would be able to be addressed with veneers. I’m considering getting a consult from a cosmetic dentist before starting the program. I’m worried that closing the gaps completely may limit the type of corrections that could be made cosmetically. It may be better if I address smaller gaps surrounding the four front teeth with veneers on those four teeth rather than having one huge veneer on each lateral incisor. Ugh, I need to figure this out quickly! I’m not sure if it’s an option, but I may ask that the production of my trays be halted until I figure this out.

Adding composite or bonding to your canines would make them look HUGE. Cosmetically it wouldn’t look right
