Smile Direct Club Day 1

Month 5 Week 2 of a 6 month Smile Direct Club plan.

$1,850
M5W2 of a 6 month plan. Finally seeing some real progress over the last few sets. Everyone told me don’t do it. It’s a waste of money. I didn’t expect perfection and I’ve been nothing but impressed and happy with the results. Dental covered half the cost so it was worth the $925 risk to me.

Thanks so much for sharing your journey. I am having trouble with SMile Direct club, and am following your progress with high hopes that you will be happy with your teeth at the end.
I am happy already if I stopped today. I didn't have high expectations. I just wanted my front top teeth to look straight. It's been something that caused low self esteem my whole life. Honestly the picture is a little deceiving for the bottom teeth. Those are not moving as well and will probably need refinements. I don't suggest SDC club for people who want a perfect smile. It is doing what I wanted and for a price I could afford. To get that price I educated myself on the company and risks involved and decided to move forward. Also visited the dentists for cleanings every 3 months for almost 2 years and made sure my teeth were ready for treatment. I think that's where a lot of people have problems. You have to have a healthy mouth before starting any treatments whether it be SDC or traditional. I can't blame anyone who says I made a bad choice based off of some of the horror stories I have read. Maybe I'll feel different in a month but as of now I have no regrets!
I cancelled my account a month ago and can’t get anyone to call be back to stop payments.
I work for a Orthodontist, with seeing your teeth i understand they are looking straighter but your bite is going to be way off after you are finished. That is why you need a specialist and especially a doctor over seeing your treatment. It looks as though you have a openbite and the smile direct club cannot fix this.
I believe everything you are saying is correct. Before starting treatment with SDC I saw 2 orthodontist's who said the same. I was purely looking to have something more aesthetically pleasing particularly my top front 4-6 teeth. When I had the orthodontist visit they asked if it was possible for me to chew food because my bite was so bad. Already having a bad bite I've lived with for 36 years I wasn't concerned with the bite aspect. Also, the ortho cost was $6500. Maybe in the end I'll still have get traditional treatment but it was worth the risk for me. After insurance covered 50% my SDC cost was only $950 and work gives me $800 a year in my HSA so I spent $150 out of pocket. I suggest folks do the smart thing and get an orthodontist who is trained and can give the proper treatment. I have 2 children who will need braces within a year or 2 and they will see an orthodontist and I would never recommend even Invisalign for my children. This was my choice and I understood the risks and am pleased so far with the outcome.
I totally agree. The 3D image they provide is not realistic. Consult yr doc with image like I did. I actually had 3 opinions and was told the digital image can be manipulated to show a straight smile even though it will not be possible with the aligners. Buyer beware.

Starting month #5

Starting month 5. Only real issue I have noticed is the aligners don’t stay on my 2 front top teeth well. They tend to slip down no mater how many times I have used chewies or push them back up. I can’t fit my pants anymore and need to go shopping. Dropped at least 2inches in pants size from cutting out snacking due to it being a pain in the ass to brush and floss more than needed. I’m in the home stretch now and notice more movement happening than the first few months. Might need refinements but we will see how the last 2 months go.

I hate wearing the aligners all the time and not eating, but I do it. However, I still drink (cold) coffee and tea with them in. I use a straw, but the top back part of my alingers do get stained a little.

Just finished month #2.

I am now on week 1 of month 3. I haven’t really had many issues and no real changes worth updating recently. I think this is the month I will really start to see the movement based on my plan. It takes some will power to follow the rules and keeps these in 22 hours a day but I have done so without cheating. I eat maybe once or twice a day and so I have noticed my pants are a little looser than when I started. Also gave up coffee and pop but in the end all this will be worth it!
