18 Days Post Op

Hey Everyone!

I thought I would post a little update since I haven't in a little over a week and things change so much during these first few weeks of post op.
Things are going pretty well.
My pain is basically gone. I started on purees last Thursday, so that's a nice step up, although I was very quick to notice that my body really only wanted refried beans with issue is staying hydrated. I am doing the absolute best I can but I am really struggling with it. My body does NOT like cold water, it tolerates room temp water but not without so nausea, so crystal light and vitamin water zero's are how I've been going. I am down 20 pounds since surgery. Most people make comments on how my face looks thinner, and I notice that as well, along with my boob, they are officially leaving, but I have plenty to spare so I'm not too sad about that.
Eventually I will get some pictures up here!

Update!

Sorry for the late update!
I’m 8 days post op.
Things are going pretty well, I have little to no pain now.
I’m down a total of 17 pounds since surgery.
I was able to run a few errands today (pedicure and trip to the mall for new glasses)bit today.
My nausea has been a little high the past few days but I think it’s me trying different liquids that my stomach just isn’t agreeing with.
I’ve learned my taste buds have completely changed. I’ve tried a few soups and drinks I once loved that now made me gag a bit so that sucks.

17lbs in 8 days is insane. Congratulations!

Hello all!

Yesterday was surgery day!
Checked in at 6:30AM
Got Rolled back to OR at 8:30 and was waking up around 12 in recovery.
Got up to my hospital room about 1.
I got up around 2:30 to go potty and even walked down the hall and back!
I’ve been able to keep liquids down. One ounce every 30 minutes.
A lot of sleeping is happening, the pain meds and anti nausea meds have me knocked out.
Moving and coughing is the worst. You never realize how much you use your stomach muscles until you try to get comfortable in your hospital bed. ????

I'm sure ur still sleeping off those meds..but how are u doing overall?
Hey lady! I’m doing okay, I ended up staying at the hospital another night to get my pain and nausea under control. I’m still here but I’m going home later today. My blood sugar has dropped quite a few times since I’ve only been drinking water since Thursday. I’ve gotten a few sips of protein in here and there but not even close to the amount they would like. Yesterday I was in tears from the pain, today I’m a whole new girl. I can walk around on my own, get in and out of my bed without tears and I even was able to shower with minimal pain. I did get pretty tender since I did so much activity this morning so I’m feeling it now. I got some pain meds and I’m curled back up in bed about to take a nap. I wanted to respond to you before I dozed off. How are you doing???
So sorry it wasn't a total breeze for u but I'm surely happy to hear it got better.. The lack of food definitely makes the blood sugar low i still get light headed sometimes...as far as myself things are definitely getting better.. Im on pureed now so I've learned my limits with everything. I can't eat more than one teaspoon of anything can only drink an half an ounce an hour still can't tolerate protein drinks either but I did get some protein concentrate that's so much better because its less to consume and only have to add 3 caps of water and I take it twice a day tolerate it so much better
That sounds terrible :( I hope you can start tolerating things soon! I haven’t had any issues keeping any thing down or alternating between protein shakes and water sips. I do a little more than an ounce every hour, I’m paranoid about getting dehydrated. I’ve been home since Saturday afternoon and I definitely miss my hospital bed, or more so the nurses who were so amazing and made sure I was feeling my best at all times. Have you tried GENEPRO? It’s an unflavored protein powder. I put some in my broth last night before I heated it up to add protein to it. I hope you can start tolerating your drinks soon, I feel weak as it is, I can’t imagine not being able to have protein
I haven't tried genepro but I've been doing much better with this protein concentrate I guess because I don't have to drink so much to get what I need from it.. And water is staying down now so I'm happy... Glad your doing well tho... I'm definitely with u on the nurses thing lol
I’m so happy to hear that! How are you tolerating water? I’ve noticed mine needs to be room temp to handle.
Water has to be room temp I'm getting down about 34Oz's not the goal but its better than where I started.. juices have to be ice cold with sonic ice what's funny to me is I can't eat popsicles they give me the spitties lol
So jealous you ladies are further ahead than me. Im 3 months in to the 6 month insurance imposed weight loss program before I can get a surgery date confirmed. Any tips or suggestions for me based ion your experiences so far?
Time will fly by, trust me! If you haven’t done so already, work on creating new healthier habits now. I started before surgery but not quite as much as I should have and it’s not exactly biting me in the ass but I am having some strong cravings. Other than that just know it’ll be worth it, it’s far from easy, and recovery is a little brutal, but everyone deals different and it is worth it and it gets better! I honestly can’t give too much insight right now since i just had my surgery last Thursday but I will answer any and all questions I can!
I appreciate that, and yes of course its all still very new right now. You are right on the habits, the program I'm on is basically dedicated to that. I'm currently working on identifying protein sources I like. Discovered I am not a fan of the shakes but love the chicken broth soups and gel packs for water. Can't shake that urge to eat all the foods I won't be able to afterwards though :/
I didn't have a 6 month diet and wasn't required to lose any weight but I did put myself on a 2 month diet to curb my after surgery cravings sad to say it didn't work I still crave atleast 4 different things daily
That was smart. Ive been told I will need to do a 3 week liquid only diet prior to surgery, which I am not looking forward to. At least afterwards you're not hungry :/
I broke my leg just before Xmas and am on enforced bed rest until at least the end of Feb (more likely till April) so at the minute I don;t have as much control over my food as I would like. Its all about the convenience right now. Great time to be trialling all of those meal replacement and high protein bits though
