I am a 31yr old mother of 2 beautiful children. I currently am 5ft 11in and weigh 278. I came to this page looking for support. I have absolutely no support system. Everybody says I am not big enough to get the surgery. I don't want to tell my mom and worry her. I am tired of being at war with my body. I have been researching weight loss surgery for many years. I have finally made up my mind and going to get it done.

Congratulations to you for making the best decision for YOUR life. Through my own struggle with weight; I realized others won't understand the struggle unless they have been there. This group is very welcoming and supportive. I am scheduled to have surgery 3.20.17, I haven't told anyone outside of my husband. Good luck to you.

I was in your shoes 2years ago, I had sleeve surgery and only my spouse knew, I'm glad I made that choice
I was about your size and now wear a size 10-12
Sometimes I can't believe it! I do need a tummy tuck
Recovery is hard because we are use to eating what we want, with a partner and children it was rough!
The secret is committing to the diet and exercising, even if you just walk, your body will drastically change.
I told my family when I started looking dramatically different, also YouTube gastric sleeve on what to eat helped a lot. Good luck!

I see the last posts were in Feb of this year so not sure where you are in this procedure. I wanted to tell you my friend's experience. My girl friend was 5'1" and truthfully I do not know how much she was overweight..but she was "round", esp in the stomach. She was VERY active, doing long distant bike rides, (143 miles for example! she had worked up to this) and then rides up to our "limited" hill country etc...she did not lose wt. Became diabetic II and blood pressure out of control. I do not know what her BMI was but a lot as she did qualify for either the band or re-sectioning surgical procedures. She decided to go the gastric band route. Our insurance required you to have a psychological exam and go for nutritional counseling for a year! I don't think they required her to lose a certain amt of weight before they accepted her into the program like I have heard some MDs/plans do...BUT, after going thru the counseling program she was supposed to do the meal plans required when you have either the resections(sleeves inc) or the banding for the remainder of the year. She did all of that...did not loose but a couple of pounds. She had no problems with the band surgery. No nausea, gerd, gas, "dumping syndrome" etc. Never had to have the band adjusted. Again, I do not know how much she lost but the "round look and the very round belly" disappeared. She also could stop taking her diabetic medication along with her blood pressure medication. She will always be on the limited amts of food several times a day. It is hard to get in the amt of protein, fruits, etc you need. For her, no carbonated beverages (stomach cramps) and no wasted calories on dessert, alcoholic beverages, etc. Her face, neck, arms are toned looking. No baggy skin there. BUT she says her belly skin could definitely use a "tuck". She is in her mid 50s now..We are RNs by the way and on our unit have had at least 5 patients that REGAINED the weight after having their gastric resections/sleeves etc. 2 of those had a repeat of their procedures and AGAIN regained the weight. Hope all has worked out well for you!
