Skinceuticals C E Ferulic Serum

As a Real Friend I had the opportunity to try Skinceuticals C E Ferulic Serum. It is identified as part of their "prevention" line with benefits like antioxidant protection and skin brightening. I liked the choice of vitamin C as skin brightening is something that is very appealing to me. A little bit about me. I'm a 35 year old with normal to dry skin. I am lucky that I've taken very good care of my skin from a young age and don't have many signs of aging. I do however have melasma (skin discoloration) and this was why the vitamin C was so appealing. I was hoping to brighten and possibly lighten up some of my darker spots.

The packaging is nice. It comes in a glass bottle with a dropper. I have noticed that some reviews have complained about this as they are afraid of breaking it. For me it's not problematic and I prefer glass to plastic. Where it went wrong for me was the smell and consistency. I haven't read anyone else's review that complains about the smell so I wonder if I had an off batch. The color is meant to vary as the complex in it can change color, the website assures you though that regardless of color it has the same efficacy. The consistency felt greasy on my skin and to me it smelled like BBQ grill scrapings. I know that sounds crazy but it's the closest I can relate the smell to. I wasn't a fan. I forced myself to use it for a few weeks but couldn't really go beyond that. Smell is really important to me as I see skin care as a bit of a ritual for self care. The smell "stays" with you almost all day too. I didn't see much of a change in my skin and if anything I feel like it got a bit worse. I also didn't like that the website gives no direction as to what other skincare you can or shouldn't use along with it. I was worried that maybe I should stop retinol or other acids like glycolic acid that might negatively effect the Ferulic acid or other complexes in the serum.

I was grateful for the opportunity to try a product as part of the Real Friends program but I have to say in all honesty I wouldn't recommend the product and I wouldn't use it outside of this program.

I received this complimentary treatment through the RealFriends program.

I appreciate your input. I felt alone on the negative experience. I relaly have no plus side to my use of this product at this point. I can't say I smelled the same smell you did, but it does have a strong and icky, medicine-y odor. I dislike the way it applies and creates an oil slick on my face. I really was hoping for my skin tone to even out a bit and possible fine lines or acne scarring to be improved, but alas, that's just not my story after 5-6 weeks of daily use. So, thanks for the review. All sides of the tale need to be out there! Every product just can't work for every human. And that's ok!
Perfectly said girl! Can you imagine one product that worked for everyone though? One product to rule them all!
Wouldn't that be great tho?!?!?
I’m sad you guys didn’t love it. Man I didn’t notice a bad smell at all! I’d say use it longer because it was week four that seemed to make the biggest difference for me but shivaangel is right, we all have different skin types and it makes sense it wouldn’t work for everyone. At least you can console yourself with the fact that your skin is beautiful to begin with :)
