Hair density is low - doctor offered to do a revision
UPDATED FROM eyerhino
Current Density-Feb 2022
The density looks to be low. Another doctor I consulted with said dr Cinik’s clinic has poor surgical techniques and there were some transection. I paid for the most expensive hair transplant package at 3500 euro (now price has declined to 3000 euro) and that was the DHI package. Dr Cinik said DHI would offer the highest density and yet the density does not look that high. What do you think? Any critiques welcome.

Last week, I received an e-mail from Dr Cinik's office. He offered to do a revision. I guess I'll be heading back to Istanbul. Hopefully, density will be increased.
The anesthesia will be extremely painful. There is no getting around it. That is one thing I do not look forward to for my revision hair transplant. It is akin to a butter knife ramming into your scalp. I still remember the pain. People that say it's not painful either don't remember it well or they have soften up their stance due to passage of time.

if he didn’t do the first one right I would imagine it’s not terribly likely that the revision is going to come out that great either… It will be much more expensive but probably worth it to find the money to find a competent surgeon to do the revision… I would look for a member of the IAHRS… Most members are in the US and expensive but there are some in Turkey and one in the Dominican republic that are more affordable…good luck
Dear jimhar1970,
When I had my hair transplant with Dr Emrah Cinik back in 2018, he was a member of the IAHRS. Now he is not. I am not certain what happened. Perhaps you're right, I should seek any surgeon.
I will say, if your budget is tight and your expectations are low to medium, then perhaps Dr Cinik is not a terrible choice. He is affordable but just don't expect super great results. My chief complaints are low density along the hairline and assymetrical hairline (left temple area higher than right).

My suggestions for going to Dr Emrah Cinik or other Turkish hair mills:
1. Expect about 5 minutes or so with the doctor. The doctor has to see 20 patients in a day and he/she works 10 hour days, that means he averages about 30 minutes per patient. A lot of that time is to keep the patients safe and alive.
2. You are short on cash.
3. Low.expectations - you just want some hair even if density is see through. You don't really care - just want some hair.
4. Wash your hair before you go to the clinic. Dr Cinic's office does not wash your hair because they shave your head and mark your head. You don't want grimy and flakey hair or else the technicians will feel less comfortable operating on your scalp.

Decided to Receive Second Hair Transplant
Well, hey guys! I received a phone call from Dr Cinik's office this Monday, December 2, 2019. A woman there said that the doctor was disappointed in my results and offered a complimentary second procedure. It would include transportation to and from the airport and hotel accommodation.
My hairline is sparse and see through. I think my hair will look better with another treatment. Although the donor area in the back will be less dense though from another procedure. I think that is a fair trade off. I can get scalp micro pigmentation (SMP) in the back to create an illusion of density there. I rather have SMP in the back than the front because people scrutinize the hairline more than than the back. That is my strategy.
When I am in Istanbul, I think I will get my teeth cleaned and get a dental essix retainer. Mind as well, since everything is cheaper there than in America.
I plan to go to Turkey in April 2020 or later. Istanbul, here I come!

Good Luck. How many grafts will you get for the hairline? How much after the procedure can you get the SMP? It would be great if you kept up updated about how the SMP turned out.
Dear BobMarley1234,
Dr Cinik will have to examine my scalp to make a determination on how many grafts, so I am not sure yet.
SMP is a possibility. If I have enough donor hair in the back for my second transplant, then perhaps I don't need SMP.
If I do receive SMP down the road, I will post here. Many thanks.

How did your second transplant go? I really appreciated reading your journal and it seems you stopped. Was it because of Covid?
Hi Phil_N_the_Blank,
I purchased my flight and planned out everything and was about to travel to Istanbul, Turkey and have a revision hair transplant with Dr Emrah Cinik. That was around the early part of 2020. However, coronavirus became rampant, the hair clinic closed and my flight kept on getting rescheduled, sometimes on a daily basis, so ultimately I could not go. However, I kept on sending pictures to Dr Cinik monthly. Eventually, Dr Cinik said my hair was fine.
However, the hair looks adequate only if I style it one and only one way. If I part it to the left, right, down the middle or comb it straight back, then the hair looks like it is low density. Only when I spike it up does the hair look adequate.
Currently, my hair is still low in density. Along the hairline, there is about 3 mm of space amonst each hair follicle. I do have thick hair and it it not as bad as someone with thin hair.
If you decide to travel to Turkey, make sure you are 100% certain because doctors there will only spend about 5 minutes talking to you. Doctors will not discuss research or technical papers and spend an hour with you.
Some of the less expensive Turkish hair clinics include Dr Maral, Dr Ilker Apaydin and Hair of Istanbul. Please do your research. Thanks.
