Septoplasty. Don't Do What I Did and Get Consumed by Bad Reviews! It's Painless

Day 4

WORTH IT$9,000
It's walking about time today and had another fairly good night's sleep. Very very light cleansing inside the nose with a q-tip and a little more bloody mucous from the throat. Bought some lozenges for my sore throat which has been the main cause of pain and they have already helped. Pleased to report that my rapid weight gain (4kg in 3 days) has dropped again quickly so obviously was post-operative water retention. Starting to get more used to the splints although I can't wait to have them out. Breathing is better but still hindered with the splints and obvious scabbing still going on inside. Probably won't write an update until I get these things out on Monday now as really it's a case of slowly getting back to normal. Appetite still suppressed but that has got to be down to the painkillers and antibiotics. Top tip of the day; Buy a blender - I've had a tonne of fresh fruit / milk / ice smoothies - gives you a lot of what you will need when you don't want to chew too much. Am slowly moving my mouth around a bit more often now to 'move the scabs' internally - feels weird but must slowly get back to normal. Not afraid to smile anymore :)

Day 3

So comments were correct. Yesterday night was worse and mainly down to feeling massively congested in the nose... Take the worst cold you ever had and add a sprinkle of hay fever to it.. I didn't sleep well at all but managed 4 hours from 5am this morning, mainly thanks to some sleep medicine (Lorazepam 1mg) my doctor had prescribed. I'm using a mix of painkiller (once a day - Arcoxia 120mg) an antibiotic (Augmentin 625 mg) and some probiotic (lacetol) to calm the stomach lining. One of the weirdest things I noticed today was jumping on the scales thinking I must have lost a kilo already, have been struggling to eat much, my surprise to see my weight has jumped from 81 to 84 kg in 3 days!! But after whatsapping my Doctor (he kindly gave me his h/p no for after care) he explained is highly likely just water retention which is quite common after GA. Throat is less sore today. Have had some mix of bloody mucous down the back of my throat (whatever you do don't blow your nose!) which wasn't very nice but nothing so get dramatic about. Nose really doesn't hurt, just occasionally get bothered by the concept of these splints being inside, although you really can't feel them. Got the feeling I've got through the worse stage now

Day 2

So I managed to get a decent 5 hours of sleep with a couple of pillows propping my head up above my chest (you don't need to sleep fully upright as some people suggest) with the aid of one painkiller and a tablet that was to help me sleep. Changed the bandage this morning that sits under my nose to catch any dripping blood (very little, I'm pleased to report) and the bed didn't look like something out of a Tarantino movie which was also pleasing to see. Nose doesn't look any different, if anything I'd say 5% swollen but that will be partly to do with the splints still in there. As others have suggested the worst pain, if you can call it that, is my throat which has come from the oxygen tube put down under GA, but honestly it's nothing more than a mild throat pain, a nick in the lining, and that will definitely heal up quickly. Lots of cold liquids help. I made myself a watermelon, blueberry and ice shake (with some milk) in the blender and that was an ideal breakfast. Had very little bleeding all day and now trying to persuade my doctor to remove the splints on Friday instead of Monday, but likely will be the full week before he does so, Doctor knows best. Breathing isn't as clear as yesterday but again this is expected, as the interior of the nose will swell a bit and there will be some crusty scabs forming inside where the lacerations were at. It's ok, this is normal, all part of the healing process. Just need to be patient right now and aim for a Netfilx marathon as my main goal of the day :)

Do keep us updated. I have had this procedure twice, 2nd time was combined with a turbinate reduction. It does take a while to heal but I'm sure you'll be feeling better in no time. What aftercare are you using?
