I had a tummy tuck over a year ago and just wanted to tell people what recovery was like for those who may be thinking about having one done.
First off, I am extremely happy that I had it done. It has been over a year since I had it done. The recovery was a little rough though. The pain wasn't too bad untill I had to cough or if I laughed. Using those abdomen muscles during recovery hurts a lot. So make sure you don't have a cough and tell everyone not to make you laugh. I slept in a recliner for the first week which was a smart idea. I had to have help going to the bathroom for about a week. My parents stayed with me the whole time. I was wrapped up pretty good and going to the bathroom was difficult, but I found an easy way to do number one. Go in a cup over the toilet so you don't have to sit all the way down. Probably be best not even doing number two for a week. I actually didn't, but when I could sit down better, etc, I took a laxative and did number 2. The compression garment is like very tight capris with the private parts cut out so you don't have to take it off when you go to the restroom.
I do remember this one day when it was time to take my bandages off per the doctor's request. My mom did it for me and while she was taking them off I saw myself in the mirror accidentally practically cut in half with stitches and I almost fainted. I had to sit down right then and mom put a fan on me and brought me some water. If I hadn't told her that I was about the faint, I would have been on the floor and passed out. That wouldn't have been good. So, if you have a weak stomach about those things, don't look when you take of your bandages for the first time. I have a very weak stomach when it comes to things like that especially when it's on me.
I had either one or two drains, can't remember, and my mom removed them and it didn't hurt at all.
Also, you will not be able to stand up straight for a few days and you will need to walk some just to help the circulation. Make sure you have someone helping you.
Anyway, I was back to work in about 2 1/2 weeks. No heavy lifting.
My scar is a little crooked but overall, I am extremely happy I did it! The first few days you will probably be thinking why did I do this and I was, but again, it's worth it.
I've had a tummy tuck, thigh lift, partial lower body lift, breast lift, and arm lift and I have to say that the tummy tuck was the most painful during recovery, but the pain wasn't all the time, just when I did certain things like cough or laugh.
Feel free to ask any questions.

One more thing about Tummy Tuck
alyse1111October 25, 2013
I also wanted to add that it has been over a year and I am still numb in the abdomen below the belly button. I'm not sure if the feeling will ever come back. It may has a little bit but not much. I just feel like there's a small brick laying there but not painful.

Picture of TT!

Here's the pic of my TT from over a year ago. I think the belly button looks petty good. That black mark above my belly button is the marker from my breast lift. Haven't scrubbed it off yet.

I'm having a TT with thigh lift. How was the thigh lift recovery? I'm very nervous
October 29, 2013
Thank you for your question. The thigh lift recovery was not near as bad as the TT, but I had my done separately. I was nervous too. I thought I wouldn't be able to walk or stand or sit down because I also had the lower body lift done with the thigh lift, but it was not bad at all. I really didn't feel much pain. The only thing I really hated were the drains. They were in my hips and they were painful when he pulled them out. It's going to be hard to walk for just a few days. I used a walker for a little while. I thought the TT was more painful only because you use those muscles for more every day things than the other muscles. I have a separate review about the thigh lift and some pictures if you were like to go look at those. Let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck.
