Overall rating

I had septoplasty/rhinoplasty with Dr Shahidi in June 2016. My nose was always an insecurity and I used to feel uncomfortable when people were looking at me from the side, or when I smiled and my nose drooped down. In my experience, the lead-up to the surgery (between consult and surgery date) was the hardest part because I worried about the anaesthetic and not being able to breathe afterwards etc. etc. However, Dr Shahidi's team were really supportive and I was always able to call and have my questions answered. The actual surgery and recovery WAS NOT BAD AT ALL. My swelling really didn't phase me, I was able to breathe again within a few days of cast removal and I don't remember being in any pain whatsoever. From memory I was told to take panadol and codeine, but I literally only took panadol the entire recovery period, as a precaution, but never felt any actual pain. I loved my nose almost immediately after the cast removal. Obviously it was still very swollen and a bit of a shock at first (which Dr Shahidi and his team warn you about repeatedly!) but within days I was absolutely over the moon. My nose is my best feature! I'm so proud of it and love it and have absolutely no insecurity around it whatsoever. It was the best decision I ever made, I smile bigger, wear my hair back and have a totally new lease on life. I've also stopped snoring completely, and basically never have nasal congestion even when I'm sick. Going through the surgery, the ups and downs and overcoming the anxiety in the lead up has made me so much stronger and I'm reminded of it all the time. The only negative aspect of the process was the amount of time actually spent with/speaking to Dr Shahidi. He is busy, being a very popular surgeon, so understandably his bedside manner leaves a bit to be desired. He is lovely, polite, and really soft spoken, but interactions with him to this day have always felt extremely rushed, including before the actual procedure. This clearly hasn't been a problem in the scheme of things, having ended up with a result that I'm over the moon with, but I remember feeling a bit scared before the surgery that he might not have put enough time into thinking about my individual case... I guess you really need to trust his expertise because he 10000000% knows what he's doing! I would highly recommend going with Dr Shahidi for your surgery - it has absolutely changed my life.
