Dr. Maloney was definitely the right doctor for me.
I'm officially 1 month post-op from my closed septorhinoplasty with Dr. Maloney, so I thought it was time to write a review! I couldn't be happier with my experience from day 1. Dr. Maloney answered a million and one of my questions at both my initial consultation and my pre-op appointment thoroughly and patiently. I knew he was the one after my first consultation, but I spoke to 2 other Atlanta surgeons prior to actually booking with him just to cover all my bases. Dr. Maloney was absolutely the best one. Neither him nor his staff ever seemed annoyed or bothered by all of my questions, and Dr. Maloney explained everything from nasal anatomy to post-op care in great detail. Lindsey the surgical coordinator was amazing as well! She was prompt and efficient when it came to responding via email and phone call, and she answered every question I asked as well.
Dr. Maloney said that it definitely looked like I broke my nose at some point, as my septum was very deviated and my nasal bones were pushed to the right side of my face. I had a lot of childhood injuries, so this is definitely a possibility. I could barely get any air through my right nostril, and I had a bump on the bridge of my nose. On the day of surgery, the anesthesiologist came to speak to me, and then Dr. Maloney came in and ran through the surgical plan one last time, which really settled my nerves. He told me he would remove the bump on my nose, perform osteotomies to close the open roof, straighten my septum, and refine the tip. The nurses at the surgery center were so kind and reassuring, I really could not have had a better experience. After leaving the surgery center and going home, Dr. Maloney personally called me to check on me! Lindsey proceeded to call me every day after that to make sure everything was going smoothly during the first week, which I thought was a really nice touch.
I didn't realize how hard coming down from anesthesia was going to be on me, but it definitely made me emotional for the first few days. I sent myself into a full-on panic any time I accidentally delivered the slightest bump to my nose, but everything turned out fine. My cast actually started to fall off on its own on day 5, and it completely fell off on day 6 (I saw Dr. Maloney on day 7). I believe this is because my nose was really oily, but Lindsey assured me that the cast was completely fine to come off on its own. I actually experienced quite a bit of discomfort and some pain during the first 5 days, but it was tolerable. By day 7 I felt pretty normal, and by day 14 my bruising had completely gone away. At 1 month, I de-swelled quite a bit, but it definitely still fluctuates with my sodium intake.
I decided to write this long review because reading experiences like this really helped me when I was preparing for surgery. My nose is now pretty dang cute (and very natural), but even better, I can breathe perfectly out of both nostrils! Overall, I could not be more pleased with the entire experience, and I can't wait to see continuous improvement over the next 11 months. I have no regrets, Dr. Maloney was definitely the right doctor for me.
