Excellent results and care with facelift, eyelid surgery, and fat grafting at Grand Plastic Surgery in Seoul, Korea
Updated picture showing results of 2nd fat grafting.
I’m posting an updated picture comparing my face before and after the 2nd fat grafting in October at Grand Plastic Surgery. Dr. Kim was the surgeon. You can see that the fat grafting has further reduced my nasolabial folds (smile lines). I am pleased with the result. Translation services (with Cassy and Daisy) and aftercare were excellent as before. I was also able to do a consultation with Dr.Rhee (who did my facelift) regarding some questions I had and advice for maintaining the excellent results of his facelift surgery.

Excellent Results and Care with Facelift, Eyelid Surgery, and Fat Grafting at Grand Plastic Surgery in Seoul, Korea
I was in the clinic hospital and on an IV for 4 days after the surgery (longer than most patients). I’m very thankful that I went to a clinic that gives hospital and nursing care to their patients after the surgery, as it took me a while to get my strength back after the surgery (I’m 64 years old). The translation help from Cassy, Daisy and Yuna was excellent, and they helped in many other ways also, sometimes going out of their way to do things for me when I was laid up in the hospital.
I felt fine when I regained consciousness after being under general anesthesia for the 7 hour surgery, but had some problems with unusual anxiety, times of rapid breathing and feelings of doom for a day and a half after the surgery. I think it was from lack of sleep, or it might’ve been a negative reaction to the anesthesia used. (I didn’t sleep well for 3 days before the surgery, not at all the night after the surgery, and only 4 hours the next night. I had a lot of phlegm in my throat, which I think was from the breathing tube used during the surgery, which also made it difficult to sleep.) Through these difficulties, the nursing staff was very patient with, and helpful to me.
The follow up after the surgery was excellent. Medication was given for the pain, there were several check-ups at different times after the surgery, and I was given a list of behaviors to avoid for different periods of time after the surgery (sleeping on my stomach, exposure to sunlight, steamy showers, etc.). I had tons of questions after the surgery, and Dr. Rhee and Dr. Kim were very patient in answering them, and the translators were helpful in passing my questions on to the doctors or helping me ask them in person. Even after I got back home, I was able to ask further questions I had to Cassy or Daisy, and they have always been great about answering my questions.
There is still some numbness on the sides of my face, from the temple down to the jaw, though that has faded somewhat. Dr. Rhee said that will continue to lessen. There is a feeling of tightness in my eyes when I close them tightly. Dr. Kim said that this will decrease as time goes on. These are minor effects from the surgery that don’t really bother me.
Also, though I think my eyelids look much better, there is still some puffiness in the upper eyelids which I’m kind of concerned about. Dr. Kim says that this will get better as time goes on.
I developed a bad, itchy rash on my buttocks from the cheap, disposable underpants supplied in the clinic hospital. This may have been because I wore the same pair for several days. (The nurses didn’t give out clean underwear each day, so be sure to ask for new underpants each day if you have surgery and stay at the clinic hospital.)
The cost of the surgeries was somewhat more expensive than most other places I checked out (though less expensive than others, like VIP Plastic Surgery and JK Plastic Surgery, and significantly less than facelift surgery in the U.S.), but the extra cost is well worth it. I would highly recommend Grand Plastic surgery. The surgeons are highly skilled and attentive to their patients, the after-care is excellent, and the translation service is great.

How is the result so far?
(1) When you find a surgeon that you’re interested in, read every review written about him/her. I live in Thailand, and before deciding to have the facelift done in South Korea, I checked out facelift surgeons in Thailand. Almost every one had negative reviews written about him/her, and the one guy who looked the most skilled was 74 years old, and I decided I didn’t want a 74 year old surgeon doing a 7 hour surgery on my face (Grand Plastic in South Korea had 2 different surgeons for the facelift/eyelid surgery, so they each operated for only 3-4 hours). That’s another thing – be sure to check the age of the surgeon.
(2) Make sure that the clinic or hospital has a certified anesthesiologist who will be present throughout the surgery. The anesthesiologist monitors your heartrate, body temperature, oxygen level, etc. throughout the surgery, and will detect any problems that arise. For a facelift surgery, it would also be best to have the surgery done in a hospital or clinic-hospital which can effectively deal with any emergencies that arise. This past October in Thailand, a 72-year old woman died when having facelift surgery. The doctor claimed that she had an allergic reaction to the anesthesia, but I suspect that the clinic also did not have the equipment to deal with an emergency like that.
(3) If your mother is older or has significant facial drooping, the SMAS type of facelift is the best, as it goes deep into the underlying tissues. That’s the type of facelift I had done. It’s also more difficult to find a good surgeon for this type of surgery. Some of the facelift clinics in South Korea that I looked into don’t do the SMAS surgery. I was fortunate to find a review on Realself by a guy who had a SMAS facelift done at Grand Plastic in South Korea, with Dr. Rhee as the surgeon. His review also had photos, and I could see the dramatic improvement that the surgery brought to his appearance.
(4) Try to get a good night’s sleep for the 3 or 4 days before the surgery, as the surgery is pretty draining on the body (mine was especially long – 7 hours – as I had upper and lower eyelid surgery, and fat grafting in 3 places done in addition to the facelift).
(5) I would highly recommend Grand Plastic Surgery in South Korea, and Dr. Rhee in particular. He is an excellent surgeon, and is also warm, caring and patient with questions. The 2 English translators who worked with me the most – Cassy and Daisy – are also excellent translators and very helpful with any needs you might have before and after the surgery.
Congratulations!
