This is a revision from a sliding genioplasty done about 10 years ago by Dr. El Attar (An Egyptian doctor who practiced in England). The previous surgery had made my chin moved to the left and appeared very asymmetrical. The asymmetry is very apparent in photographs. (see pic)
Then I went to Seoul to have it corrected recently - the chin is now centered but the two sides of my face appear to be uneven probably because of the uneven incision made by previous. now when I move my lips a certain way there are dimples appearing. I now have a very long chin and angles on the corner of my face which wasn't there before. It made me look like Caitlyn Jenner. At first I thought it was just swelling cos it has only been 10 days post surgery - but when I touch my chin and the side of my jaws where there are lumps, it feels hard (like bone) which make me think that this may be the final shape. I am worried cos it made me look at least 20 years older with this big square jaw and chin.
So I am just wondering how long it should take for the swelling to go down and for my jaw to actually "shrink" back to reasonable shape?
I also want to know if there is a way to find out if there's nerve or muscle damage cos i find it very hard to move the right side of my lip - I don't remember it being at stiff in the post -op recovery of the previous surgery

Hi there, I also had a sliding genioplasty (it was a very bad outcome - worse than yours). I've had revisions on it and still need more. As for your questions - after my last revision, I had huge, hard lumps all around my jaw and at the sides of my chin. It was like I'd swallowed a bag of rocks. They felt like bone, as you describe - I looked worse than you do now at 10 days post. It took 6 weeks for all of that to go down. The "rocks" that distorted my jawline and widened my chin turned out to be swelling. So don't panic about that. In terms of the dimpling, that might be more problematic. One thing you must do before you leave Korea is find out how this surgery was done. Was the chin burred down or was the bone re-cut and set backwards? The dimpling is mentalis muscle dysfunction, and can happen temporarily with swelling. It might, however, persist. If it does, there are things that can be done in the future, such as a mentalis muscle resuspension or removal of scar tissue. For now, you can request Botox once you've healed. I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for sharing on RealSelf! Is your first photo before you had any surgeries done or before your revision?

Hi... I had a SG done in May. Most likely you are experiencing swelling.... Our bodies heal MUCH slower to an area that already has been worked on. You're only 10 days out... You have A LOT of healing to do. Rest and sleep upright. If you have a head wrap that goes over your chin, ask the doctor if you should be wearing it. The dimpling might be premanent but u won't really know for months. I'm still swollen and I'm 3 months out. I had a lisp for 2 months. The doctor said I'm recovering perfectly normally...this is my 2nd surgery on my chin. I had an implant, hated it as it was placed incorrectly. Had it removed and had the SG done. So glad I did it. Hang in there.... The lumps is swelling... Maybe u can do light massage. Get well and keep us posted
