Ozempic/Wegovy Changed my Life
After a lot of goings-on during 2020-21, I was diagnosed with depression and acute anxiety disorder and prescribed medication for treatment. I was already obese, but the mental health meds took it to another level. I reached 258 pounds at my heaviest. That was when I worked with my GP for alternative options for weight loss as diet and exercise alone were not working. I started taking Ozempic in July 2022. When Wegovy was more readily available, my insurance switched me to Wegovy and I am still taking it today. Since being on this medication, I have lost 85 pounds and have successfully undergone an extended abdominoplasty to remove the apron of skin. I have even lost a little bit more weight since my January 2024 surgery.
There have been some side effects I experienced and a couple I still get to this day but know how to manage. In the beginning, nausea was the biggest issue. That one continues now but can be managed with a few sips of ginger ale or a ginger scented inhaler stick. Bowel emptying is the other big one that was usually managed with a couple days worth of colon cleanse supplements to get things moving better. Occasionally I will experience a sour stomach if I indulge on meat or something fried. That is pretty easy to take with a dose of Pepto Bismal.
While there have been side effects, none have been significant enough to make me regret using this medication for weight loss. It has literally changed my life. My mental health is greatly improved as has my physical health. I am no longer needing to take blood pressure medication and my lower back pain has almost completely vanished.
